sync'ing across multiple computers
Would be the killer app if sync'ing was possible between multiple computers.

Inappropriate?Mike,
I agree - it is something we would like to do in the future. -
Inappropriate?i have a central server computer that i keep my data files on. i created a symlink from 2 other computers to the file-server to the data-files for on the job. It seems to work fin, i just have to connect to the server first, and only 1 can connect at a time. Otherwise it works fine.
-
Inappropriate? If you are careful, this might work, but it's definitely an unsupported solution, and you run the risk of data loss by letting different computers access the same data file.

Inappropriate?seems to work, and i know i am flirting with disaster...... i live on the edge and backup often.

Inappropriate?Perhaps a 'server' version of OTJ would be good for larger studios. Studiometry does that, syncing with client versions. Actually each version is the same, it's just that you can designate one to the 'server' version (does not need to be on a real server, just any computer). I don't recommend Studiometry however, we found it way too complex for what should be a simple management task as OTJ does so well in (we switched to OTJ). I'd say there is a market for that sort of thing amongst medium/large studios.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I've been syncing with no problems via Dropbox and symlinks, but an in-app solution would be great!

Inappropriate?I'm going to investigate syncing my files between my Mac Pro at work and my MacBook Pro when I'm traveling. I plan to using iDisk Sync through the MobileMe service.
My Question, is there a way to point OTJ to reference the .otjs file in another location then its default? -
Inappropriate? At this time there is no supported way to change the location of On The Job's data store, or sync up multiple computers.

Inappropriate?Adding my voice to the flat file or syncing issue. Would be wonderful, as a freelancer to track hours on my laptop and my computer. That said, wonderful, wonderful piece of software you have here.

Inappropriate?Being able to point the OTJ client to a data store location of my choice would ideal! I have all my computers synced with files stored on my MobileMe cloud. If I could keep the OTJ data store file on my iDisk, I could point all my clients to this file, keeping all my invoices in sync.
I'm doing the same thing with 1Password keychain and it works great. This would make a great product that much more brilliant. -
Inappropriate? It would be a killer feature. In our studio, we have to do our invoices in another app to avoid invoice number conflicts. It's a little bit time consuming. We recently found Studiometry and we think they have great features but we can't live without our OTJ. If we have to pay a little more for OTJ with multiple computers sync, multiple users and other project management tools, we'll do it without a doubt.
