I keep discovering that Sunbelt (Kerio) Personal firewall (I have version 4.6.1861 installed in the free version) has been deactivated or turned itself off -- with no warning!
And I have no idea how long it has been turned off, and how long I've been conncected to the internet without a firewall.
Running various free anti-root kits (from sophos; gmer; spybot; avg; fsecure blacklight; avira; panda; rootkitrevealed) has never revealed a rootkit; spybot seach & destroy and avast have never revealed any serious infections that they couldn't readily deal with,
--yet I keep suddenly discovering that Sunbelt's icon is no longer present in my system tray at the bottom of the screen -- and in fact, sunbelt doesn't seem to be running or active at all anymore -- because it's no longer intervening to ask me whether I want to allow various processes to be run by various programs or not -- but I never have any idea how long it's been shut down, or what caused it to stop, and how long I've been exposed to the internet without a firewall!
(Restarting the computer then activates sunbelt again, but I want to know how to make sure it stays on!) Can anyone help me?
(I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3)
I have installed Vipre on 3 computers. Both the Windows XP machines seem to be fine. The Windows 2000 machine slowed to a near stop. I disabled it and it perked right back up. I tried Beta testing this a few months ago and had the same problems
I received a BSOD which referenced sbhips.sys - I am running Win XP SP3 with all patches up-to-date. I was accessing a file on a TrueCrypt encrypted USB drive volume at the time.
I have recently installed SPF and am trying to learn to use it so this is probably a really simple issue; it is installed in Simple Mode. I am using Outlook Express for email and NOD32 Antivirus. When I open Outlook Express, the attempt by NOD32 to integrate with it is blocked by SPF (Code Injection blocked). How can I permit NOD32 to integrate with Outlook Express?
Does a security professional review the newsletters you send out? I cannot believe for the life of me you've got someone in the newsletter talking about how good Registry Mechanic is (it's JUNK). Ever wonder why a registry cleaner would come with a free pop up blocker? To make you think it's doing something, otherwise it's just going to sit there (let me say again, Registry Mechanic is a total joke). People that are in this business know that registry cleaners, especially ones you pay for, are an ABSOLUTE WASTE OF MONEY and most of them (do a Google search for registry cleaner) are scams and malware products so unless you're trying to show people that your software works and will block bad apps such as registry cleaners from installing I can't imagine why you put that in the newsletter. The person who recommended registry mechanic obviously knows nothing about the registry. That isn't some general maintenance task you want to routinely do unless you're willing to take that risk each time you click clean and potentially fix the problems that occasionally arise from the cleaner taking out an entry it shouldn't.
I will give you kudos for having the "IT Pro" mention CCleaner. Good job for mentioning something that is legit, works and is FREE. CCleaner is an outstanding product. Unless you're getting $$ from the Registry Mechanic people please in the future make sure you fully research and vet what you are recommending people as that was a very dangerous quote.
All of this being said, the improvements you've made to VIPRE have been awesome and I'm about to switch my reseller alliance from AVG to VIPRE after seeing it work the last 8 months.
Anytime that I had to format my pc, I would log on to my account via Sunbelts website and download the license key (+program) and then register both the firewall and counterspy. However, when I checked today to extend the counterspy, I had found that my account could no longer be found. It claims that the e-mail address and details are not known but my three license on the firewall and the counterspy license clearly state that what details I am inputting is correct.
Why after so many years being a customer has Sunbelt deleted my account? Actually delete might not be the correct word as the license on the firewall still confirms the validation. How do I find my keys if I need them and where has the account access disappeared from?
We have configured our VPE to include the uninstaller for McAfee. Does the uninstaller also get packaged when you create a Deployment Package (self-executing EXE) or does it only work when you deploy using Automated Push/Pull installation? The reason I'm asking is because we used a packaged executable but McAfee services restarted after the reboot so it basically locked up the computer after logging on to Windows.
When I receive a large attachment on my email program, the programs run, but do not finish receiving the email. If I disable Vipre I can finish getting the large attachment. I am currently running Thunderbird Ver 2.0.0.19 and Vipre Ver.3.1.2416 with the latest definations, 2569. I also use a small program called Popfile filtering server for spam reduction.
All other types of email work fine, it is just when I receive a LARGE attachement, over 1 meg, that this problem comes up. I do like to disable Vipre as it is defeating the purpose of having an email scanner running.
Since updating to def 5003 I'm unable to run Excel (2007) spreadsheets without disabling Active Protection (AP). If I forget to disable AP, SBAMsvc.exe clocks 100% CPU utilisation and my PC effectively freezes until I am able to manually kill this process. Am aware update 5003 introduced more than just definition updates and have not yet found any other area where I suffer this problem. Running VIPRE, SBPF, Windows XP (fully patched) and didn't suffer this problem until update 5003. Ticket raised with the support desk (no reply as yet ... it is the weekend) but is anyone else experiencing the same problem?
P.S Just had a similar problem opening a new Word doc.
Vipre shuts down during the day, when I get home the icon in the tray is red. Vista detects it and I click on search for a solution but I get no answer. I have a machine running vista ulitmate 64 bit.
I have a fresh install of xp media center that vipre reports is full of win32.virut.cf
over 700 system files. I did a deep scan. Vipre wanted to disinfect so I hit 'clean' and 15 minutes later it reports that the 'clean failed'. So I am going to wipe the drive again. The only thing I can think of is that the hidden recovery partition which i didn't touch must have been infected so I am wiping that out as well.
I seem to be encountering a problem with VIPRE and Nxclient (http://nomachine.net) in that if the active protection is enabled on VIPRE when I try to start NXclient it is very slow and unresponsive. It will usually time out before connecting to the server.
However if you disable vipre's active protection the client connects fine and runs at full speed, Also once the client is connected you can re-enable vipre active protection without any further problems.
