Vipre and new Counterspy 3.1.2315 compatible with Thunderbird? Very slow response to open anything. All is good when disabled. Tried disabling the email scanner in Vipre--no change. Had updated Kerio (SPF) to newest version before installing and had uninstalled Counterspy before installing Vipre.
Uninstalled Vipre and reinstalled new version of Counterspy, and then had same problem with email response so slow it was unbearable. Exit Counterspy and again, email just fine.
BTW, first scan with Vipre wiped out all my email--had to establish "new" account in Thunderbird and then import original mailbox, but all settings and filters are gone.
No problems for two years of using the products, so was excited by all the good reviews of Vipre and had been looking for AVG alternative to new version 8 (I did uninstall that too before Vipre), so am frustrated to the max.
Vipre definition 2210 (29.08/2008) reported as "out of date', but update attempts today (02/09/2008) fail to download any updated version. Have removed Vipre & re-installed/updated to 3.1.2315 (to no avail0. This is a licensed copy. Have also failed to find any reference on Sunbelt site as to what the latest definition version is ... nearest I got was on the research page ... latest defs "coming soon".
Automatic Updates Do Not Seem To Be Working In VIPRE
The reason I say this is ...
I have Automatic Updates ENABLED
Allow Automatic Internet Access is CHECKED
Automatically Check For Updates is CHECKED
Check for updates every 2 hours
Today at 8:00am EST the Risk Definitions were 2164
Today at 12 Noon the Risk Definitions were 2164
Today at 12:15pm I manually checked for updates
The Risk definitions updated to 2165
Why didn't VIPRE update the definitions automatically the way it is set to.
Hi. Is there any way I can get Vipre to automatically check for updates when I turn my computer on, i.e. on startup? If I have turned the computer on before the day's scheduled scan with yesterday's scan having run OK, the "automatic update" waits for 2 hours (i.e. my automatic update check time frequency) before it checks for updates. This means that I am then running with out-of-date definitions for the first 2 hours. Obviously, I can do a manual check for updates on startup, but I would expect Vipre to have such a facility. However, I can't find it! Please can you advise whether this facility exists, and, if not, why not! Many thanks.
I renewed my subscription but when I click on help and then register, my registration key is the same and CounterSpy says it is expired and I must renew. How do I get CounterSpy to recognize that I have renewed?
Email protection stops email downloads. I am using SSL ports 995 for pop3 and 465 for smtp. I configured this in advanced settings and email client (outlook) cannot
Outgoing server requres authentication and both in and out use SSL.
I recently updated from CounterSpy to Vipre. Now I cannot complete a deep scan. Quick scan without problems. Vipre always getting stuck on same file in Temporary Internet Files. Freezes computer requiring hard restart. Computer slower than ever.
I have now been without VIPRE for two weeks since version 3.1.2315 released. I have been unable to us Thunderbird e-mail on three different PCs. Earlier version worked fine. Have uninstalled VIPRE and am now using AVG Free until a fix is found. Contacted tech support and they could offer no solutions except to WAIT for a new release. Not a good answer. Something has been wrong between VIPRE and Thunderbird for some time it seems. I have had issues even while beta tesing.
I believe there are many users out there who are just as frustrated as I am.
Any help would be appreciated as I really don't want to scrap VIPRE. The problem appears to be mostly with XP machines and I have VIPRE 3.1.2315 on a Vista PC and it works fine.
Installed purchased version of VIPRE and now my computer is very slow at login. It actually never gets to my Desktop and is very sluggish...like it's locked up. I also have Personal Firewall v 4.6.1845.0 installed. If I disable the SBAMSvc.exe service, I am able to get logged in and to my Desktop.
I have had CounterSpy for a few months now. Since yesterday afternoon, it will scan upto the middle of my files and then STOP. It shuts the whole scanning process OFF then it shuts CounterSpy OFF. It ask to send error and I do but it continues each time I run a scan.
I have CounterSpy 25.1032 Version 803 which will not update or run. My operating system is Vista SP1 Utlimate. My software seems to be corrupted. Can I download a new copy? Tried rebooting numerous times. Has been operating trouble free until version 803.
I updated CounterSpy 3.0 to 3.1 (I think) last night. Rebooted. The setup wizard pops up and I'm asked to input Proxy setting which do no apply to me. Whatever I do the wizard responses with "A parameter is incorrect." I advance through the wizard normally otherwise, but evidently the setup is still wrong. I have two icons in my tray, one for updating CounterSpy definitions, but it doesn't seem to be able to access the internet. The second icon tells me the service is not running and if double-clicked, it simply restarts the setup wizard. CounterSpy is dead in the water.
In most of the VIPRE performance or Thunderbird e-mail issues reported, the initial response from Sunbelt is to disable Active Protection and retest the issue. It would seem that the AP function needs some tuning up.
Is there a near future update to the product that addresses issues with this functionality? Active Protection (on demand scanning) is one of the major differences between free and paid-license security software. Disabling it to gain acceptable system performance negates the value of the software.
Sunbelt seems more responsive than average to questions about the product (compared to the other vendors I am currently evaluating). Looking for signs that issues in the software will be addressed in a similar fashion.
Counterspy will download new defintions files, but cannot merge them. Also, when I try to open Counterspy, it gives me an error message "connection denied to scan engine - may be running a scan" when it is not. I have tried using the reset tool provided in another thread about this issue, still no luck.
What do I need to do to fix this?
