Under My PC Explorer what exactly does "Block this startup program" do? Is it the equivalent of unchecking items under "run, msconfig, startup programs"? Can it be undone? How does the "Block this startup program" action differ from "Permanently remove startup program"?
Vipre and new Counterspy 3.1.2315 compatible with Thunderbird? Very slow response to open anything. All is good when disabled. Tried disabling the email scanner in Vipre--no change. Had updated Kerio (SPF) to newest version before installing and had uninstalled Counterspy before installing Vipre.
Uninstalled Vipre and reinstalled new version of Counterspy, and then had same problem with email response so slow it was unbearable. Exit Counterspy and again, email just fine.
BTW, first scan with Vipre wiped out all my email--had to establish "new" account in Thunderbird and then import original mailbox, but all settings and filters are gone.
No problems for two years of using the products, so was excited by all the good reviews of Vipre and had been looking for AVG alternative to new version 8 (I did uninstall that too before Vipre), so am frustrated to the max.
I updated CounterSpy 3.0 to 3.1 (I think) last night. Rebooted. The setup wizard pops up and I'm asked to input Proxy setting which do no apply to me. Whatever I do the wizard responses with "A parameter is incorrect." I advance through the wizard normally otherwise, but evidently the setup is still wrong. I have two icons in my tray, one for updating CounterSpy definitions, but it doesn't seem to be able to access the internet. The second icon tells me the service is not running and if double-clicked, it simply restarts the setup wizard. CounterSpy is dead in the water.
Most days, while Counterspy is doing a deep scan everything stalls. I can't open counterspy, can't open a browser, can't start any program. Other programs that should be running in the background are stalling also. Since upgrading to V3, I have to restart my computer after a scan to get access back to my computer. Should a scan really take from 300 to 800 minutes?
Hi. Ever since I have installed the Counterspy v3.1 upgrade from v2 I have been getting this "Interactive services dialog detection: A program can't display a message on desktop." The message is titled: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. The program path is C:\Program Files\Sunbelt Software\CounterSpy\SBAMSvc.exe. It was received today and has been showing up ever since the upgrade. I have checked the updates from the Windows/Microsoft Update page but have there are none. It is mentioned at the bottom of the message that this is usually displayed because of a partial incompatibility with Windows. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. If you need me to attach the Event Manager message I would be more than happy to. Thanks.
I just finished uninstalling Kerio and reinstalling to recommended version 6.4.1845 (even tho "check updates on older version said nothing newer) and uninstalling Counterspy and AVG 7.x so I could install Vipre, just purchased today. I installed Kerio and after restart, it produced a box asking for host and password, which I have no idea what to put in. There is a box that I could check saying "redirect alerts for this session" but I left that alone and pressed "connect." That produces an error saying, "Sunbelt Personal Firewall 4 - GUI can't authenticate to service." The firewall looks like it's running, but I want to resolve this before trying to install Vipre. Kerio didn't start on restart, so will try that again too.
Hi, I am running Counter Spy 2.5.1043. The security risk definitions are not updating automatically or manually. The dialog bow opens and it looks like it begins to search and download files, but it never finishes. It is trying to update from version 851 to 860.
My computers do not start CounterSpy v2.0 with the active protection enabled. I turn it on while the computers are on, then upon restarting them, I find active protection disabled. I want the computers to always startup with it active. One computer is XP SP2, the other is Vista 64-bit SP1.
I am a Man that has an incredible amount of patience--that can be good or bad. It has now been several months that I have not used CounterSpy. The first several weeks of my first problem, I would just shut down counterSpy entirely. If I didn't, I would get BSOD caused by Sbabpifs.sys files which is a CounterSpy file. There was never a solution provided by Sunbelt to fix this for me. Many weeks later, I got disgusted and decided to turn CounterSpy back on thinking that an update may have fixed the problem. Downloading the updates took approx. 40 minutes. After they were complete, I decided to check my email and----------BSOD due to the Sbabpifs.sys file! I once again contacted Sunbelt. This time they told me they couldn't even begin to diagnose the problem as long as I was running the "Old" software Version 2. OLD? I was not even aware that there was a Version 3---and I purchased two licenses for CounterSpy. Sunbelt CounterSpy V3 will NOT install on my system (Windows XP Pro SP/3). I have tried every suggestion given by Tech Support. I have scoured the Internet searching for a solution or new suggestions. So, at this current time, I have not been able to use my PAID CounterSpy program for approx. two+ months. I also tried to install Vipre--no luck there either. I have NO PROBLEMS with my System at all. All MS updates and critical patches install just fine. My AntiVir (free) Anti-Virus updates daily with no problems (and takes just a few seconds to do so). I have Online Armor (free) Firewall and have had no problems at all. I am NOT using NOD32 as others have reported having problems with that and CounterSpy. I just installed Mass Effect and played that for awhile. There is something about my System that CounterSpy doesn't like, and no one has a clue as to what the problem may be. Both my Licenses expire is about three weeks. I have lost money on this counterSpy program and I am getting more and more angry about it---day by day by day---by day. Since Sunbelt can't do a thing, if anyone else has a suggestion---even a very obscure one---no matter how silly it sounds, please let me know. I have done absolutely everything Sunbelt has asked me to do--and nothing has worked. By the way, my system scores at the top 8% in PcPitstop full tests, with no problems reported. Using Secunia PSI, I am 100% up to date with all drivers and software and have no security issues whatsoever according to several different sites I test on. I think that Sunbelt should at least give me two extra months on my Licenses. After they expire in about three weeks, I will never know the cause of the problems---I won't be able to use the programs anymore anyway due to expired Licenses. Maybe that is what Sunbelt is hoping for. Now, on to more Forums to Post about this----------------
When trying to download update for Counterspy.all goes well until the following message appears;
Error 2732.Directory Manager Not Initialized.
HELP!,Please
I have had CounterSpy for a few months now. Since yesterday afternoon, it will scan upto the middle of my files and then STOP. It shuts the whole scanning process OFF then it shuts CounterSpy OFF. It ask to send error and I do but it continues each time I run a scan.
Counterspy will download new defintions files, but cannot merge them. Also, when I try to open Counterspy, it gives me an error message "connection denied to scan engine - may be running a scan" when it is not. I have tried using the reset tool provided in another thread about this issue, still no luck.
What do I need to do to fix this?
