Cant register my new SPF Last reply on July 02, 2008 19:21.
My orderid=080702021649779
I just bought Personal Firewall for my son's Laptop. I already installed the trial version prior to ordering it to test it. Now I'm trying to enter the License number in the registration wizard but when I click next it says "Error checking license number#". I know I'm entering the right numbers.
I tried 10 times to register it without any success. I downloaded the trial version from your website on my desktop and then installed it on his Laptop because he has problem with his laptop since last week. Please let me know what to do.

What is happening? Last reply on June 30, 2008 19:32.
I think my CounterSpy has gone to sleep on me. During the last scan, it detected 20+ risk but only removed 2. Items identified as "spyware" by other pgms are not deleted by CS. Got me a bit worried whether it's working properly or not? Arlie -

Counterspy won't run updates Last reply on June 30, 2008 17:17.
For quite some time, when I try to run Updates, I get a message that says it is unable to download, please try again later. I have version 2.1.917 - Definition version 831. Just now, on Startup, Windows gave me an error message telling me to upgrade Counterspy, but I cannot - help! I have Windows XP Pro.
Also, Countersply has stopped running programmed scans more recently.
I have gone through the Knowledge base - my problem is not there. I have looked on Counterspy Home page, but it only talks about upgrading from Version 1 - I have Version 2.1.917.
If I have to Uninstall, then re-install, will I lose my current subscription I have already paid for? I will need complete instructions on how to do this. TY! -

Confusing assessment/advice Last reply on June 30, 2008 13:36.
I've just run my first full scan using CounterSpy, and among the security risks detected was Hoax.Win32.GSMgen.j. Its Risk Level is listed as High and the advice is to REMOVE it, which I think most people would agree gives the impression that this is a threat of some significance. However, upon clicking the link to Learn more about this item, I read that this threat type is Joke Program, low risk software which "should not harm your machine or compromise your privacy and security unless it has been installed without your knowledge and consent. A Low Risk Software application may be a program that you knowingly and deliberately installed and that you wish to keep. Although some Low Risk Software programs may track online habits -- as provided for in a privacy policy or End User License Agreement (EULA) -- or display advertising within the applications themselves, these programs have only vague, minimal or negligible effects on your privacy." In addition, it is categorized as a joke program, "software that is designed to mimic the actions of a virus but is not malicious and does not harm the machine."
All of that seems extremely inconsistent with the High Risk Level description of software that is "typically installed without user interaction through security exploits, and can severely compromise system security. Such risks may open illicit network connections, use polymorphic tactics to self-mutate, disable security software, modify system files, and install additional malware. These risks may also collect and transmit personally identifiable information (PII) without your consent and severely degrade the performance and stability of your computer. "
Please explain how this software can be both Low Risk and High Risk at the same time. -

Sign in or Not? Last reply on June 30, 2008 13:08.
Ads a new customer, I was told to enter "no password" but when I did I was called invalid. Great way to greet a new/potential customer. Couldn't call, as suggested because they were closed. How can I sign up if they don't allow me to sign in? -

My definitions file will not merge after downloading, what to do? Last reply on June 27, 2008 02:10.
Counterspy will download new defintions files, but cannot merge them. Also, when I try to open Counterspy, it gives me an error message "connection denied to scan engine - may be running a scan" when it is not. I have tried using the reset tool provided in another thread about this issue, still no luck.
What do I need to do to fix this? -

My version 2.5.0.1043 stops working on windows Vista. When I try to restart it it says: "Could not start the counterspy service. To restart, please reboot your computer." When I do, it starts up, but then stops running again. I also can't update. What do I do to fix this?

Will the next version work with "Windows Live Mail"? Last reply on June 24, 2008 20:43.
Microsoft is moving away from Outlook Express and going to "Windows Live Mail" client. Will there be a version of IHateSpam that is compatible with "Windows Live Mail"?
