Just upgraded to Counterspy v3.1 from v2.5. Can not complete a scan. Each time it freezes somewhere in my (System Disk)"\Program Files\Intel folder. Running Win XP Pro SP3. During freeze, active protection turned off.
Vipre and new Counterspy 3.1.2315 compatible with Thunderbird? Very slow response to open anything. All is good when disabled. Tried disabling the email scanner in Vipre--no change. Had updated Kerio (SPF) to newest version before installing and had uninstalled Counterspy before installing Vipre.
Uninstalled Vipre and reinstalled new version of Counterspy, and then had same problem with email response so slow it was unbearable. Exit Counterspy and again, email just fine.
BTW, first scan with Vipre wiped out all my email--had to establish "new" account in Thunderbird and then import original mailbox, but all settings and filters are gone.
No problems for two years of using the products, so was excited by all the good reviews of Vipre and had been looking for AVG alternative to new version 8 (I did uninstall that too before Vipre), so am frustrated to the max.
Just upgraded to Counterspy 3.1 last week. I have scheduled a full scan every night. Each morning when I click the icon to view scan results, a box pops up indicating that Counterspy is looking for updates. However, it never gets anywhere, no matter how long I leave it open. I always end up canceling the update and viewing my scan results. The main screen in Counterspy indicates that it is being updated somehow. Definitely not a huge problem, but it is an annoyance. Any suggestions?
My computers do not start CounterSpy v2.0 with the active protection enabled. I turn it on while the computers are on, then upon restarting them, I find active protection disabled. I want the computers to always startup with it active. One computer is XP SP2, the other is Vista 64-bit SP1.
Counter Spy has detected 'Trojan.TDSServ'. I have asked that it be removed. It states that it has, but when another scan is run, the same trojan shows up. What do I do?
When installing CounterSpy I get an error message stating that: The System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation. I am running a Windows 2000 OS with SP4 installed. I have 1.4GB of free space on the C: drive. I have checked the local security policies with the Group Policy MMC snap in but there is nothing in there to prevent the installation. I am logged onto the computer as the administrator and it is not on a corporate network, it is on a home network. I am running AVG8 as my antivirus tool and its scans have turned up nothing. I have also scanned the computer using Spybot Search & Destroy (latest version) but it also stated the computer was clean.
CounterSpy 3.1.2252 definitions are suddenly showing "out of date". Won't update either through manual update or right clicking on the . However, the last update check only 15 minutes ago was "up to date":
<systemevent>
The definitions I have now are 2210 from August 29, 2008.</systemevent>
During counterspy scans a virus is discovered by Norton AV. When I uninstall Counterspy, problem goes away. Only occurs during scans. Here's the Norton AV output:

With Counter Spy 2.5 I have a combination of problems. I have allowed scans for up to 3 hrs before aborting it yet system is not reporting a scan since June. While scanning CPU is nearly 100% and computer Apps come to a crawl; CS reports running normally. Although not current, CS reports that definitions and software are current. I have 2.5, ver.872. While attempting to update, the download does not appear on my computer. I cannot assume that I have had active protection all along. Argggghh!!
Upon booting the aplet from Counterspy advising me that the trial is over regarding Counterspy. I used Microsoft uninstall and I cannot remove this message and need assistance
After using CounterSpy for several years I am now unstalling and going another route. I have found CounterSpy V2 to be unacceptable to be used with Vista. When I use the Active Protection basically I'm protected because its takes over the CPU so there is nothing else that will run! I've run it without Active Protection and have gotten along, but when it runs the SPCSSvs.exe (or something like that takes over and according to the Windows Task Mananger uses from 75 to 95 % of the CPU all the time. It just doesn't work! I've went to BitDefencer so I can use my computer again. If I am on an automatic upgrade billing please cance. Vivian Kirkpatrick at vekirkpatrick@mchsi.com
I updated to version 3.1 today. It will not run a complete scan of my hard drive now. After 92 minutes+ the CS icon on the lower right turns red and the scan stops. There's no way to make the scan resume. Running XP SP2.
I've been trying to update to V3 and it goes into install loop where after re-boot it starts the install wizard again and will not start or update definitions. I'm a little ticked about signing up for 3 years on this system and then " new and improved Vipre " is offered as upgrade for of course extra money. Yeah, I know it does more but I also have sunk money into Norton because you didn't offer it before.
Under My PC Explorer what exactly does "Block this startup program" do? Is it the equivalent of unchecking items under "run, msconfig, startup programs"? Can it be undone? How does the "Block this startup program" action differ from "Permanently remove startup program"?
Most days, while Counterspy is doing a deep scan everything stalls. I can't open counterspy, can't open a browser, can't start any program. Other programs that should be running in the background are stalling also. Since upgrading to V3, I have to restart my computer after a scan to get access back to my computer. Should a scan really take from 300 to 800 minutes?
I just finished uninstalling Kerio and reinstalling to recommended version 6.4.1845 (even tho "check updates on older version said nothing newer) and uninstalling Counterspy and AVG 7.x so I could install Vipre, just purchased today. I installed Kerio and after restart, it produced a box asking for host and password, which I have no idea what to put in. There is a box that I could check saying "redirect alerts for this session" but I left that alone and pressed "connect." That produces an error saying, "Sunbelt Personal Firewall 4 - GUI can't authenticate to service." The firewall looks like it's running, but I want to resolve this before trying to install Vipre. Kerio didn't start on restart, so will try that again too.
