"Block this startup program" under My PC Explorer
Under My PC Explorer what exactly does "Block this startup program" do? Is it the equivalent of unchecking items under "run, msconfig, startup programs"? Can it be undone? How does the "Block this startup program" action differ from "Permanently remove startup program"?

Inappropriate?"Block this startup program" simply stops the program from loading when your computer does. Yes, it is the same thing as "run, msconfig, startup programs" however, once the action is complete, it can not be undone. "run, msconfig, startup programs" allows you to change it back if you want to. "Permanently remove startup program" does just that, removes the program.

Thanks for the reply Justin. So, "Block this startup program" does the equivalent of unchecking AND getting rid of the item being listed in "msconfig, startup programs". That's great. It would be nice if you could delete some that are already unchecked and just sitting there. I'm assuming I could check then, restart and then "block" them with CounterSpy.
So, you are saying that "Permanently remove startup program" performs the same operation as "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows XP.
Because there are a lot of novice's using your program, I'd suggest the following for future releases: 1) a more detailed explanation in the help menu for "Block this Startup Program". I used it for something that I would like to have been temporary. I'm not sure yet about restoring it from the program. 2) Have a function that does the equivalent of unchecking items that can be reversed. 3) Add information in help function that explains "Permanently remove startup program" in more detail.

Inappropriate?Hi Bob,
When block a program from starting up with the My PC explorer in CounterSpy the reference to the program is removed from the run directly in the registry. There isn't a way to undo the action. To get the program to automatically start again you would need to add the registry key back or reinstall the program.
We did change this feature in both Vipre and CounterSpy version 3. My pc explorer will no longer allow you to block a program from starting, it will however give you a list of programs that are set to start so you can change this through Windows itself. -
Mike, I think you should put the option in to permanental remove it from the registry OR just stop it from loading. Thanks! The Computer Lady @ Bits, Bytes-N-Beyond -
Inappropriate? Please put back the "block" button for startup programs, that was one of the most useful features of CounterSpy v2, I was very disappointed to discover it was no longer available. It seems like every application one installs these days wants to have some resident quickstart code wasting my memory when I rarely use the app. Thanks for the tip about msconfig, I wasn't aware of that utility. But I'd rather see the capability in CounterSpy where it's more user-friendly. Why not create another registry key like /RunBlockedByCounterSpy, and create entries there before you remove them from /Run, so you can show what's been blocked and be able to restore them to /Run if so desired?

Inappropriate?Hi StormRider,
Thank you for posting your suggestion. I will pass the feature request to replace this feature to our product manager. We removed this from the current version because so many people were accidentally blocking needed programs from starting.
