Inappropriate?Hello Bob,
Thank you for posting, sorry to hear that you are having difficulty.
Please see this thread to resolve your issue.

Inappropriate? To solve this problem in Vipre, try my solution under this topic: http://tinyurl.com/6lx26q
-
Inappropriate?Henry thank you for posting your solution
Your steps should also resolve the problem, but because it involves going into hidden folders and deleting files some people might not be comfortable with following them. We have made changes to the way the software is updated, so once you upgrade to 3.1.2710 you should not run into that error in future software updates.
If you have any questions please let us know.
Thanks

Inappropriate?I just got the same problem. Is there any updated solution?
And, where is the link to the latest software version?
When I went to the page where "trial version" is offered,
the number was far smaller than either of the numbers
(software ver or definitions ver) on my other computers: At
http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Home-H...,
where I expect to find the latest version,
I see instead "Version: 3.1.2416", while on my "good" computers
I see software version 3.1.2710 and
VIPRE version 3.2.2019.2 .
Please, someone mind the shop!
Indeed, I downloaded the "trial" version, tried to install it,
and the wizard told me that I had a later version, and if
I wished to install THIS version, I needed to install the other one first.
So, this is no solution at all.
And, on the (now) problem computer, I'm stuck.
VIPRE won't load because of
"Error reading setup initialization file",
and I don't see a reasonable reason for that here,
and I don't see a reasonable solution here.
The suggestions seem haphazard, with no step-by-step
that fits with the reality (e.g., the version numbers,
and exact sites). As of a few days ago, my software version
and my definitions were up-to-date and working fine,
and I hadn't used that computer since. Now, this.
Please take great care in your suggestions at this point.
Thanks. -
Inappropriate? To add to my posting of a few minutes ago.
On the (now) problem computer, it's
Software ver 3.1.2483 (so need 2710)
and VIPRE ver 3.2.2019.2 .
And, the latest definitions.
But, whenever I respond to the offer to update
the software, I get the standard
"Error reading setup initialization file"
and VIPRE disappears from systray.
Sigh. -
Inappropriate?PS - I just noticed that the installer file I downloaded from Sunbelt's site
came from October of last year! The older files should come with warnings,
and an indication of where you can get recent ones (or, are the trial versions
old versions?). -
Inappropriate?Problem solved, though I don't know why it arose.
I completely uninstalled VIPRE (from control panel),
data and all. Then I downloaded that ancient trial version
(the Oct 28, 2008 ver, with defs 2353). It installed just fine
and updated, eventually arriving at the correct present version
of everything. Oh, me of little faith! It would have been good,
though, had there been something reassuring at
the download site, e.g., "This version is a few months old,
but will update to the latest versions in the install process".
I love the ideas Sunbelt exposits, about its products,
and the CEO is great. Somehow, though, I seem to have
reinstalled from scratch several times, on my 3-4 computers.
I’m relieved and ready for bed

Inappropriate?Gideon, I am sorry you had problems with getting it installed.
If you have any other questions or run into any further issues please let us know.
Thanks,

Peter, thanks. Gideon -
This problem is fixed by uninstalling, installing trial version then updating. A real pain - why isn't there a download page for updates on registered versions instead of downloading a trial that IS NOT CURRENT and going through the update process. I load Vipre on hundreds of computers ( i am an oem) I like the product - but the software update process definitely needs work. -
Inappropriate?Seahawk1313, The version the website is not the most recent because it does not include the new definitions.
You can download the new version (3.1.2710) from here, http://www.sunbelt-software.com/suppo...
And you can download the newest definitions manually from here,
http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Home-H...
That should let you install and update the new version without having to wait for each machine to download new software and definitions.
If you have any questions please let me know
Thanks

Inappropriate?Peter, one question: Where do you find the new version of VIPRE
more generally. The link you gave is for the most recent one.
Next time someone needs it, what's a good way of finding
the most recent VIPRE version? (If there is a general way)
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Gideon, Because the most recent (3.1.2710) version of the installer does not have the definitions its not listed on the website.
They are working on a better way for it to come installed with updates without it have to include such a large file, so for the time being they cant have it on the website because if it did have the 3.1.2710 link, it would not include any definitions.
You can download the 3.1.2710 version from here, http://www.sunbelt-software.com/suppo...
If you have any questions please let me know.
Thanks,
Peter

Peter, that's helpful to know, and it's encouraging that the procedure is being worked on. Thanks! -
Inappropriate?I encountered the same error today (Error reading setup initialization file). Currently I have the following running on my 64-bit Vista:
software version 3.1.2710
definitions 5182
VIPRE version 3.2.2084.2
Before following the directions above, I just want to be sure they are still accurate, since the thread was started 7 months ago.
THANKS! -
