Inappropriate? Thanks for posting. Let’s try disabling rootkit detection from the scans by following the instructions below.
Open Vipre,
Go to FILE/SETTINGS,
Click the tab for “Scan Options”,
From there uncheck “Enable Rootkit Detection” and click OK.
If you continue to experience any more problems please feel free to contact our support team at support@sunbelt-software.com or by Phone at 1-877-673-1153 M-F 9am-6pm EST and we will have someone work directly with you. Please reference ticket id 001-00-236236.

Inappropriate?I have been experiencing this problem as well over the past 2 weeks.
1.Sometimes Vipre shield sits in the system tray at start up which then turns red and announces that active protection is disabled. Shortly thereafter my system will lock up requiring me to perform a cold shut down. Task manager or other actions do not respond.
2.Sometimes Vipre shield does not appear in system tray at all after boot up.
3.The rootkit detection option was disabled prior to this issue and has no bearing on correcting the problem since it wasn't active anyway.
Anyone else experience this? What is the fix? When will an updated version be released? Many of the fix solutions appear to be related to disabling the Root Kit detection option, but it seems deeper than just that.
I’m frustrated!

I was so frustrated with this problem that I downgraded to Counterspy. It is acting the same way. Very Frustrating!!!! -

Inappropriate?i'm having almost the same problem on 2 of my machines. It's not that often that it happens, but it only started about 2 weeks ago. i'm not sure where it starts, but my computer has been running when I come home, or return to my office and see the vipre shield has turned red. I have a Windows error message that says:
"Sunbelt Software Anti Malware Service stopped working and was closed. A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. windows will notify you if a solution is available."
Then after clicking close, I get a help message windows pop up that says:
Download updates for VIPRE 3.1 Beta 6
This problem was caused by VIPRE 3.1 Beta 6, which was created by Sunbelt Software.
Solution
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Go online to the Sunbelt Software website to download the VIPRE 3.1 Beta 6 update:
Sunbelt Software
Download instructions
In the File Download dialog box, click Run or Open. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Follow the steps in the installation wizard.
When I click to turn Anti Malware service back on, it turns on fine. Oh...i didn't mention that I'm not getting the system lockups that are mentioned by the other posters.

Inappropriate?Bruce,
Do you have any other security software such as another antivirus/antispyware or firewall installed on your computer? If so, what products do you have installed? -
Inappropriate?Nope. Sure don't. Nothing at all. In fact, the curent image I have installed on my machine is clean of any anti-anything, as Vipre is the only service I installed when I rebuilt this machine.
One small change to what I posted earlier...I thought my system wasn't locking up, because when i spotted it, It wasn't frozen. However i was up VERY late the other night when my scheduled scan ran and I saw that it HAD locked up while the scan was trying to run. That time I forced my machine to reboot, as I was doing something and didn't want to wait to see what it would do.
And this happened even last night, as I woke up this morning to a red vipre shield and the Windows error message as I typed above.

Inappropriate?Bruce,
Do you have a program called Embassy Trust Suite by Wave Systems Corp on your system? This software comes installed on some systems and there is a known conflict with this software and VIPRE. If you don't have this software installed I'd like to get your system information from you so I can take a look at what might be causing the problem.
Please go to Start/Run and type in msinfo32. Click Ok. Now go to the File Menu and choose Save. Save this export to your desktop and call it system information. Once it is done, please attach this file to an email and send it to support@sunbeltsoftware.com. Please add 001-00-260070 as the subject of the email so we know the file is from you.
