Any way to make VIPRE "smarter" about Windows & app updates?
Is there any way to make VIPRE "smarter" about Windows & app updates? I installed VIPRE on this system just a few days ago, and during the latest round of Windows updates I found I had to tell VIPRE to allow seemingly every temp file and dll that was touched. I found the same thing when I updated an unrelated application installed on this machine. I finally turned off Active Protection until the updates were finished, but I haven't had to do that before with other security programs.
Active Protection level is set to Medium.
Thanks,
Jack

Inappropriate?Hello Jack,
Sorry to see that VIpre has been detecting a false positive.
It sounds as though Vipre has detected a false positive, here are the instructions to correct this problem.
a. Open VIPRE,
b. Click on the Manage tab at the top.
c. Click View Quarantine.
d. Select the detected false positive,
e. Click the "Restore from Quarantine" button
f. In the windows that pops up, check both the boxes to add to the "Always Allowed" list and to "Submit to Sunbelt for Analysis"
Once this information is submitted to our researchers, we will do our best to update our next definition files to reflect this false positive. We appreciate your cooperation and patience in this matter.
Also when those pop ups come up for Vipre, there should be a box located near the bottom to remember the action taken.
Warm Regards,
Eric Milliot

Inappropriate?Hi, Eric -
I don't think that is what's happening - I'm talking about the block/allow window that pops up on file access (see image). VIPRE is popping this up for many or all temp files, dlls, etc. when I install or update programs. This is getting annoying, and yet turning off Active Protection when I install programs sort of defeats the purpose of VIPRE...
Any tips based on this info?
Thanks,
Jack

Inappropriate?Hello Jack,
I'm sorry to see Vipre is still giving many "Attention" pop-ups.
My next suggestion would be to change Active Protection's level to "low." By doing this you should notice that Vipre pop-ups are not popping-up as frequently as they were before.
If you feel like you do not need to be notified for specific types of files, there is a "Customize Active Protection" option available in Vipre located in the settings:
Click on File and select Settings.
Click on the active protection tab.
Check the Custom level for your active protection. This will enable the button below to enter your custom settings window. (Custom risk monitor settings...)
Here is also a link where you can submit any "false-positives" that you can submit to our research and development team.

Inappropriate? You can also try adjusting the handling of known risks and suspicious programs. In Vipre, click on File > Settings, then the Active Protection tab. Under "Handling of Known Risks...", uncheck the box next to "prompt for action if Vipre determines that a program has suspicious characteristics".

Inappropriate? Thanks, Erid & Jaime - Unchecking "prompt for action" seems to have helped.
