Inappropriate?Hi Peterh,
I'm having a similar problem with a customer. Virus infected XPSP3/ IE7.0.5730.11 box. Vipre removed a half dozen viruses but alas twext.exe won't die!
I've got v3.1.2416 Eval running; wanted to buy this to get away from Mcafee/NAV.
Never been able to update defs via app. Downloaded/installed VCDefs.exe; took the def patterns from 10/28/08 to 12/11/08.
Uninstalled/reinstalled Vipre; re-ran VCDefs.exe. I guess the app is stable & functioning as it should, but no pattern updates still. New defs available yet?
From either Safe-Mode or full OS runtime, quick & deep scans find and remove win32.zbot.gen, only to return. Kinda goes like this...
Scanned, found win32.zbot.gen; removed it successfully
Re-ran a scan to find win32.zbot.gen again. Rebooted.
Scanned again found win32.zbot.gen, removed it.
Don't really need to reboot after a scan/removal. Trying anything.
Very interesting here, can't hit certain important web-sites.
MS Windows Update, sunbelt-software.com, sunbeltsoftware.com and others I use for important downloads.
Customer had Skpe v3.8 installed, I removed it. Just a thought.
Can resolve them but no good on browzing ports. Checked my local NOS services, all's well. This is the only XP box exhibiting this issue on my network. Uninstalled/reinstalled NIC; DHCP release/renew is good; no hidden DNS entries. Sounds like a busted IE7, but I can't reinstall; can't hit the needed download.
************
So what is this exe, lPNcQmxY.exe?
Once I enable the NIC and give it a bit, it fires up with mulitple IExplore pids. Here comes the odd popups.
A local search reveals the locations...
c:\windows\prefetch\LPNCQMXY.EXE-2FF3E690.pf
c:\windows\system32\lPNcQmxY.exe
c:\windows\system32\lPNcQmxY.exe.a_a
Thought I'd check with you guys before a rebuild it. -
Inappropriate?Hello Glenw, Download the CDdefs.exe file again, it will have been updated today with the newest definitions, then run another scan in safe mode to see if its removed completely.
Let us know if you continue to have the problem. -
Inappropriate? If I'm going for Def:2466, the reply is:
"The definition has not propagated yet. Please check back in a 48-72 hours."
Do you have a link for me? -
Inappropriate? Here is the manual definition file link,

Inappropriate?Peterh,
Patterns are at 12/16. Multiple safe-mode scans and removals have not resolved this issue. Any ideas?

Inappropriate?Morning,
I've had to rebuild the OS Peterh. Hate it; wanted to solve these issues but time ran out for me. Box was just beat up to much; app issues/registry corruption. Current install of Vipre is working as designed and I will advise the customer to purchase.
Thanks for the help P!
