Can't open Vipre from icon in system task area
Ever since the software update a day or two ago, I cannot right click the icon in the system tray and "open Virpre". Right clicking the icon does nothing. There seems to be no way to open Vipre except for going to Start, Program and clicking on Vipre even though it's already running. I just finished another software update a while ago and the problem is still there.
When did the recommended Active Protection level change from medium to low. Help does not reflect this.
I'm running Vista Home Premium with no other antivirus or security stuff running.

Inappropriate?Hello Ed Y,
Thank you for contacting technical support.
We're sorry to see that Vipre is having difficulty opening on your system. For the new software release the default setting for active protection has changed to low.
I noticed that you said you didn't have security programs "running" while trying to open up Vipre. That is good, but if you had any security programs opened while installing Vipre, there's a chance that it did not install Vipre properly. Therefore I recommend performing a uninstall and reinstall with Vipre. Before doing this, verify that you still have a copy of your registration key.To do this, please do the following:
1.Click 'start', and click 'control panels.'
2. Double Click on 'Add or Remove Programs.'
(VISTA: Double click 'Programs and features.')
3. Please look for VIPRE.'
4. Click 'Change'.
5. You will receive a prompt that asks you 'Remove All Items'. Please choose 'Yes' and click 'next.'
6. Please follow the rest of the prompts until you are able to click 'Finish.'
7. You will be asked to restart your computer, please wait to do this until after you’re finished running the cleaner.

1. Click on the following link to install VIPRE http://go.sunbeltsoftware.com/?linkid...
2. Your web browser will ask you “Do you want to run or save this file?” Please Click Save. Save this file to the desktop.
3. A box will appear that asks you where you want save. Look for the save in field and then click on it. Look for the desktop and then click on it. Then click save.
4. When it is done downloading, you will receive another box that asks “do you if you want to run this file?” Choose yes.
5. You will receive an internet explorer warning. It says “Do you want to run this software?” Click run.

Inappropriate?Eric,
I've been running Vipre exclusively since it was introduced. Nothing else running. Windows Defender under Vista was turned off too.
Are you saying I should still reinstall it???? -
Inappropriate?Hello Ed Y,
For one reason or another, the application is not performing as it should be. By right-clicking the icon there should be no problem opening up Vipre from the pop-up menu. Two common causes for this issue are another security program running during the installation. This means if you have another security application such as Norton for example, and it's not necessarily opened, but the icon is still present on the system tray by the clock, then Norton's security process is still running and could potentially cause a poor install of Vipre. A second possibility could that the installation file was bad and you just need to perform a regular uninstall and reinstall.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Eric Milliot

Inappropriate?Eric,
The link you provided in the email for the "cleaner" won't work. Here's what is in the email:
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/suppo... followed by &VClean.exe
I've tried couple of variations but can't find this "cleaner". -
Inappropriate?Hello Ed Y,
Sorry, the link got cutoff, here it is again.

Let us know if you have any other questions. -
Inappropriate?Uninstalling Vipre and installing it again seems to have fixed the problem. Time will tell. Thanks for the help.

Inappropriate?I shutdown the PC overnight last night and now the problem has returned. This problem never happened before the recent software updates.

Inappropriate?Ed Y,
Please press Ctrl, Alt, and Delete on the keyboard at the same time to bring up the task manager. Go to the Processes tab. Do you see SBAMSvc.exe and SBAMTray.exe listed here?
Please click the Start button then click Run (In Vista just click the start button and click the search bar). Type services.msc and press Enter. On the list here find VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware. Does this say it is started and set to automatic? -
Inappropriate?Yes, both SBAMSvc.exe and SBAMTray.exe are listed in "running processes". The VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware service is started and is set to "automatic, delayed start".

Inappropriate?Ed Y,
When you right click on other icons in the tray do they still bring up a menu?
Just to test, first right click on the VIPRE icon to verify a menu doesn't come up. If nothing comes up please open the task manager and end the SBAMSvc.exe and SBAMTray.exe processes. Now Open VIPRE from the Start menu. The icon should show back up in the bottom right near the clock. Does right clicking on it now result in a menu? -
Inappropriate?Right clicking on other icons in the tray DOES bring up a menu. I shut down SBAMSvc.exe and SBAMTray.exe and then opened VIPRE from the Start menu. The icon showed back up in the tray. 1st time I clicked on it, the menu showed up. Went back 5 minutes later and right clicked on it again, no menu. Tried this 2 times more and same thing still happened.

Inappropriate?Ed Y,
I'd suggest contacting us directly by emailing support@sunbeltsoftware.com so we can collect some diagnostics from VIPRE and see what might be causing the issue.
