Inappropriate?Hello Kerry thank you for your Post!
First please open Sunbelt Personal Firewall. You can do that by double-clicking the purple shield icon, which is in the bottom-right of your screen, near the system clock.
Then, click the Network Security tab, found on the left. Now on the right you'll see a list of applications. Find the one called "Any other application."
Click each of the 4 columns until the columns read ASK ASK ASK ASK. Then click the Apply Button.
Now, try running all your Internet programs now. Notice Sunbelt Personal Firewall will pop up with a dialog box that asks you to click "PERMIT" or "DENY" to an application. Be sure to CHECK the checkbox above these choices so you can make a rule for this application, and then click the "PERMIT" button. Do this for each time you receive the message. Use your programs as normal for a few minutes until you are sure you've got every program setup.
Sunbelt Personal Firewall has now made a rules for these programs. Go back to Sunbelt Personal Firewall where we were and change "Any Other Application" back so they read in this order: DENY PERMIT DENY PERMIT by clicking each of the 4 columns until they are changed to those values, then click Apply.
The following settings need to be made in order to allow file and print sharing for your home network.
Under network security, select the predefined tab and hit "Set to defaults".
Next select the trusted area and make sure that local area connection has a checkmark in it.
Then under applications set "Microsoft file and printer sharing" to permit for both in and out under trusted.
Please let us know if you need any further assistance.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Jacob,
I appreciate your information about turning on and off the Simple and Advanced modes. However, I asked for specific directions for an important reason and I still need the question answered.
You see, my Father is 89 years old and he got a new computer and I installed VIPRE and Sunbelt Personal Firewall on it. To support him, I need to get Hamachi to work, and right now it is being blocked by the firewall. He will not expect or know what to do with firewall alerts, so I need to know the manual setup of the firewall for Hamachi. I will then perform the configuration for him.
So, Please, can you tell me step by step how to configure specifically Hamachi?
Thanks again,
Kerry -
Inappropriate?Kerry, You can create a packet filter to allow that Hamachi.
To do that open the firewall, then click on the network security tab.
In here click on Packet Filter, Then add. In here you can enter the protocol you need to allow, and then the Local ports that you need to have open to the internet. Once you set it up correctly it should allow your Hamachi.
The steps Jacob gave you should also let you allow it, if you set it to the advanced mode, then allow the connection and create a rule, then set it back to simple mode it will remember the rule and wont prompt about anything else.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Peter -
Inappropriate?Peter, I appreciate your response, but it is still too general. What is the protocol I need? What ports and IP addresses or Ranges or whatever do I need?
As I have said, I need specific step-by-step instructions.
I looked at the step by step instructions for Norton 360 (see the following web site) and I need this kind of instruction for Sunbelt Personal Firewall. Other firewalls are on that site, but not Sunbelt's.
http://logmeinwiki.com/wiki/Hamachi:N...
Thanks,
Kerry -
Inappropriate?Kerry, I cant assist you with setting up the protocol and ports for Hamachi, because I don't know what ports or protocols you need to allow on that machine for it work correctly.
Something else you can try is, In the packet filter rule window, next to the application field you can click on Browse then navigate to the Hamachi file, and that should make sure that it allows it to connect to anything it needs without needing to manually enter protocol or port information.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thank,
Peter -
Inappropriate?Peter, Did you follow the link to the Hamachi directions for Norton 360 in my previous post? It gives the information about protocols and ports. But how these are entered in Sunbelt Firewall remain a mystery to me. Can you interpret what they are saying and translate those instructions into equivalent instructions for Sunbelt's firewall?
Why isn't here an "add" button to add an Application on the "Applications" tab of the Network security tab?

Inappropriate?Kerry,
I tested the latest version of Hamachi on a test machine and it appeared to work fine with the default firewall configuration, without having make any custom settings. Have you tried to use it yet to see if you will run into any problems or errors? -
Inappropriate?Yes Peter, I have been trying and the default firewall configuration, whatever that is, is not working. I am unable to ping My Father's computer with Hamachi unless I turn off the Sunbelt Firewall. Hence I need to know the directions I keep asking about.
Hope you can give me some specific directions.
Thanks again,
Kerry -
Inappropriate?Kerry, Try this.
Open the sunbelt Personal firewall, click the network security tab, click on the packet filter button, click add.
In the window that opens enter Hamachi as the description, next to program click browse, C:\Program Files\Hamachi and select the Hamachi.exe program.
Then click ok, then ok at the bottom of the filter window, now check and see if that allows it to work.
Let me know if you continue to have problems
Thanks,
Peter -
Inappropriate?I was finally able to get Hamachi Ping to work today. I had to use WebEx, instead of Hamachi, to be able to set up remote administration of the Firewall. What worked was to tell the Trusted Area to use "Any" adapter instead of the Hamachi Adapter for the Hamachi IP addresses.
Using Firewall remote administration running at the same time as the ping, I kept trying different settings until Ping stopped timing out and started replying.
What I do not understand is that if I use remote desktop from another machine to my home machine, I see can see the sunbelt shield in the system tray and I can control the firewall using this. But, when I remote to my Father's machine, the system tray on his machine does not show the shield. So, I use the Firewall Configuration menu on his machine and it prompts for the host and password for remote administration.
Also, on my machine, The firewall has Hamachi.exe in the list of Applications. But on my father's machine Hamachi is NOT listed and there is no Add button. I was able to finally switch his firewall to advanced mode and I was prompted to grant permission to Hamachi\NicMgr.exe. I don't have NicMgr.exe in my machines list of Firewall applicatons. Since I am running the same version of Hamachi and Sunbelt Firewall and VIPRE on both machines, I don't understand how they are so different.
Is there something I need to configure to make these machines act alike?
Thanks,
Kerry -
Inappropriate?Kerry, Im not sure why they are showing different programs that need to be allowed. I only did testing to make sure that it was able to connect out correctly with those settings that I described to you before.
What you described before, where when you remoted into the machine, you didnt have the SPF icon is an issue we are aware of and trying to resolve in the next software version.
We do have a work around, If you click start, then all programs, then sunbelt software, then personal firewall, then click on remote administration. When it asks for the host and password, just type 127.0.0.1 in for the host, and leave the password blank and it will open up the firewall configuration when remoted in.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
Peter -
Inappropriate? Thanks so much for the 127.0.0.1 and blank password work around. I had no idea about that. Where is this documented?
Can you explain why, when I use remote desktop on my machine that the shield shows, but on my Dad's machine it does not show? What is different?
My Dad's machine, which does not show the shield on remote, has the following versions:
System service: 4.6.1861.0
User interface: 4.6.1861.0
Translations: 4.3.100
Rules: 4.3.225.0
Driver: 4.6.1860
SFE API: 4.6.1861
HIPS driver: N/A
Simple Mode
My computer (that does show the shield on remote) has the following versions:
System service: 4.6.1861.0
User interface: 4.6.1861.0
Translations: 4.3.100
Rules: 4.3.0.0
Driver: 4.6.1860
SFE API: 4.6.1861
HIPS driver: N/A
Simple Mode
So I have two questions:
1. Why are the Rules different? I checked for updates and it said both were up-to-date.
2. Is this rule difference the reason the remote shield does not show?
How do I make both machines have the same rules, and which rules are best?
Thanks,
Kerry
I’m confused
