Counterspy is screwed up.
I just tried to update the definitions in counterspy 2.5 and got the upsell pop up for vipre which froze and crashed the whole program. Question is, if this is constant behavior of the software, AND IT IS!!!!! why in the name of all that's holy would i want to continue with sunbelt software anything, never mind a new buggy version of this mess??????????

Inappropriate?Thank you for posting.
I'm sorry for the freezing problem, it certainly should not be doing that. I'll get someone to look into why that is happening. It's completely up to you whether or not you wish to switch to VIPRE. It does have major improvements over the older versions of CounterSpy which fixes a lot of the old problems. If you want to stick with 2.5 you definitely do that as well. Once you choose No on that popup, you shouldn't see it come up again.

Jason Thank You for your reply
After six tries I was able to get rid of the pop up and install CS 3.1. After three reboots it seems to be running OK. As I’m writing this it has been scanng for over two hours. Webroot spysweeper is MUCH faster and just as thorough.
When my subscription expires I'll most likely go to Webroot - Counterspy For Me At Least has always been problematic and forum posts got me NOTHING. Until now when I’ve finally had it and will use another product.
Just so you know, I did try Vipre and ended up having to format and reinstall Windows because it completely hosed my system.
I've had to reinstall the CS 2.5 software multiple times for no apparent reason. Automatic updates don't run no matter how i set them or how many times I reset them. scans take forever and slow my system down appreciably. WinXP on an Asus M2N32 SLI Deluxe mb with an AMD x64 5200+ CPU, two gigs of Crucial Ballistix PC2 6400 ram, a 500 gig SATA Western digital HD and 2 e-GeForce 8600 GTS 512 MB GDDR3 PCIe Video cards running SLI (which I know makes no performance diff. except when gaming etc.) and an Antec 650 watt PSU -
Inappropriate? You can also just directly upgrade to CounterSpy 3.1 by downloading the following:
www.sunbeltsoftware.com/ihs/alex/temp...
This will get you the new version of CounterSpy and will stop the "upgrade notification" popup from occuring again. -

Inappropriate?Hello, I found that your key needed to be reset and I have done so, it will be working properly now. Your expiry date is 10/21/08. If you have any other questions please let me know, you may either call me at 800-336-3166 or email me at onlineshop@sunbeltsoftware.com. Thank you.

Hi Laura,
Well after a few tries and two reinstalls the key is working but the program isn't. I can't get it to do anything. What are you people doing at Sunbelt??
Thanks

Inappropriate?I have another version of this problem. I have CS 2.5 on two machines
(maybe a 3rd). I update manually. I tried updating one PC, and it announced
that there was a software update. I gave it permission to download and install. It looked like it was downloading something small. Then it shut down. Within a minute after that, the systray icon disappeared. There appeared to be no CS2 related activity that might be relevant. I went through this process N times, including rebooting the computer. Nothing made any difference. I thought Alex's suggestion of just downloading CS3 would solve the problem, but now that the new key requirement has come up, I can't see each person getting a new key here, on this board, for each of their licenses.
So, what's a practical way of dealing with it? Will the process be fixed soon, so just waiting 24 hours, or 3 days, or the like, would be a way to go? Please advise. Thanks. -
Inappropriate?Hi Mike and Gideon, I believe the difficulties you both are experiencing are able to be resolved. Please call our Tech Support Department, 877-673-1153 -- M-F, 9am-6pm EST.

Inappropriate? As to "Mike and Gideon, I believe the difficulties you both are experiencing are able to be resolved. Please call our Tech Support Department, 877-673-1153 -- M-F, 9am-6pm",
why do you believe that? The problem persists, on two different computers?
Can we have a hint about what's going on????
I did call them and just got a voicemail. I've been waiting a quarter hour now
for them to call me at the number I left. Maybe they will. This is very frustrating, and now annoying too. -
Inappropriate?I'm still unclear about why the original problem, or how often this is happening,
but when I did connect with tech support, they were helpful and I believe everything will be OK.
I’m relieved
