GoDaay Email halted by Sunbelt Firewall
I am using Vipre 3.2.2050.2 and Sunbelt Firewall 4. I use GoDaddy for email. It uses port 80 or 587 for smtp. Outlook 2007 times out sending email, message is "cannot connect to your outgoing smtp server". If I turn off the firewall email works fine. This makes the firewall useless for me. Any ideas?

Inappropriate?Ken,
To get Sunbelt Personal Firewall to let applications on to the Internet, we'll have to temporarily switch Sunbelt Personal Firewall to advanced mode so it can create a rule for your applications.
Please open Sunbelt Personal Firewall. You can do that by double-clicking the purple shield icon, which is in the bottom-right of your screen, near the system clock.
Then, click the Network Security tab, found on the left. Now on the right you'll see a list of applications. Find the one called "Any other application."
Click each of the 4 columns until the columns read ASK ASK ASK ASK. Then click the Apply Button.
Now, try running all your Internet programs now. Notice Sunbelt Personal Firewall will pop up with a dialog box that asks you to click "PERMIT" or "DENY" to an application. Be sure to CHECK the checkbox above these choices so you can make a rule for this application, and then click the "PERMIT" button. Do this for each time you receive the message. Use your programs as normal for a few minutes until you are sure you've got every program setup.
Sunbelt Personal Firewall has now made a rules for these programs. Go back to Sunbelt Personal Firewall where we were and change "Any Other Application" back so they read in this order: DENY PERMIT DENY PERMIT by clicking each of the 4 columns until they are changed to those values, then click Apply.
Sunbelt Personal Firewall is now back in Simple mode, and you have successfully permitted your programs on to the Internet. -
Inappropriate?Hi Nick,
Thanks. I appear to have left some info out. I always run in advanced mode since I am in IT. Outlook works fine with several other email accounts (I use 7 on 4 different servers) with Sunbelt enabled. The issue is unique to GoDaddy OR the port, I am not sure which. I am sure it is a function of Sunbelt since disabling it returns functionality. I removed Outlook and answered the prompts and it does the same thing - all other smtp servers work fine, GoDaddy does not. -
Inappropriate?Ken,
Let's determine which part of the firewall is blocking the connection. Please open the firewall. Click Network Security on the left. Uncheck the "Enable Network security module" option then click Apply. Test to see if you can connect.
If not, click Intrusions on the left. Uncheck each option here, one at a time, and click apply to test each option here.
If you're still unable to connect click Web on the left. Uncheck the "Enable Web Filtering" option then click Apply. Test the connection.
Which option was causing the connection to be blocked? -
Inappropriate?Sorry, I guess my reply didn't get posted. It is the web filtering option that is the culprit. WIth that turned off it works.

Inappropriate?krlcon,
Alright, you can either leave the web filtering disabled (most of the current web browsers including Internet Explorer and Firefox have web filtering built into them already) or you could add a site exception. To add an exception just open the firewall. Click Web on the left. Click the Site Exceptions tab. You'll want to add the website being blocked in the same format you see in the examples here. If something on www.godaddy.com was being blocked then you'd want to add .*godaddy\.com.* as an exception.
