Is starengineservice.exe a Sunbelt process?
Is starengineservice.exe a process associated with Vipre or Ninja? It is the largest memory hog on my server. It is using 360k of memory. I purchased Ninja and Vipre hoping that the resource usage would be somewhat smaller

Inappropriate? This process is for the StarEngineService, which is the Sunbelt Advanced Spam engine for Ninja. If you have that engine disabled in the console (Antispam->Global Settings), you can stop and disable the StarEngineService.

Why would I want to disable spam control in Ninja? Why is it such a memory hog? -
Inappropriate? There a 4 antispam engines available. Many customer only activate the Cloudmark antispam engine. The Star engine loads a large protion of the threat definitions into memory so it can scan the emails faster. If you look at the settings for the Star engine, you can set it to memory optimized. This will greatly reduce the capacity of emails it can process though.

Inappropriate?RE: setting Star engine setting to "memory optimized"
>>>"This will greatly reduce the capacity of emails it can process though."
How about for a small office which typically processes not more than 600 messages per day? (mostly spam of course)..... Will this setting end up having much effect on us? -
Inappropriate?Bob,
Leaving that setting at memory optimized is telling Ninja to use only a fraction of the Star threat definitions available. It will be able to handle the amount of emails received but it will greatly reduce its ability to detect spam which is why this is not a recommended setting.
