kpf + mass effect problem
hi, i got an extremely annoying problem with personal firewall + mass effect (the game) ... after maybe an hour of playing, kpf starts interfering in a very annoying way, dropping me out of the game every few moments with a "can't connect to service" error popup. i even re-installed the whole system, to no avail.
edit: btw, i'm using both kpf and cs for a long time now, and deployed it to all our mobile users at the company too - first time i run into a problem like this.
ps. when the mentioned issue arises, i cannot even stop the kpf service anymore, plus, kpf kind of goes into a "lock down" mode barring all network communication for good.

Inappropriate?Thank you for posting your question. I looked up the Mass effect game If I'm correct this game is played online against others. The most probable cause for the problem is that the firewall is getting overwhelmed trying to resolve the IP addresses of all the computers connected to the network. to correct this Open the firewall by double clicking on the icon in the system tray. Go to the Overview / connections tab. Right click on the list of connections and uncheck “resolve address”.
In your initial question you mentioned KPF. We have made many improvements since obtaining the firewall from Kerio. I would recommend that yoiu upgrade to the latest version. Below is a direct link.

Inappropriate?hi mike,
no, ME is a single player RPG. also, while i refer to the kpf acronym as a shorthand, i'm actually using the latest version (4.5.916). (note to self, use SPF as acronym next time.) -
Inappropriate?Glad to hear you are on the latest version. If this is a single player RPG there could be a number of causes.
If you can contact us here in tech support at support@sunbelt-software.com One of our techs can get some logs from your system, we'll take a look and see if we can figure out what part of the firewall is triggering the game to drop. -
Inappropriate?great, i'll do that. thanks for your assistance!

Inappropriate?I have experienced the same Problems with SKPF. A few months ago it had conflicts with Network Manager, so I uninstalled it, but it didn't really uninstall. Installing the latest version seemed to help. I play on Second Life; SKPF had to be disabled for it to work, but later on, it let me play. I have just installed a Windows update, and now I am connected to the internet, but no programs can get on. Uninstalled SKPF, and guess what? It's still running - it didn't uninstall.
I’m pissed off

Inappropriate? While not having a solution, I, too, suffer from this problem. As far as I understood it, the new copyprotection scheme incorporated into the Mass Effect game might cause this problem. As far as I have understood it, it tries to connect to a server in regular intervals and tries to ascertain that the copy of ME ist still an original copy of the game.
How it does that exactly is beyond my knowledge, I only know that the CP scheme is a SecuROM one.
