Inappropriate?Hi Tommy,
Thank you for posting. To alleviate further freezes during scans (especially 64-bit versions):
1. Please open up VIPRE
2. Click file and then settings.
3. Please click on Scan Options.
4. Please find the scan setting labeled Enable rootkit detection.
5. Under quick, Deep system and custom, please uncheck the boxes next to this setting.
6. Once this is done, please click ok at the bottom of the VIPRE interface.
You should now be able to run a scan with out VIPRE freezing when scanning rootkits. We are working on upgrading the VIPRE engine so that in future builds, it will not hang when scanning for rootkits. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. -
Inappropriate?Stopping rootkit scanning also worked for me... Any more news on the fix?
I’m waiting for an info update

i had asked for an ETA, but there is no responce from sunbelt. -
Inappropriate?Sorry about the delayed response. Development has made some changes to the scan engine since these reports have been coming in. The update should be released mid October.
Regards,
Jason Layman -
thanks -
Inappropriate? Also, in regard to freezes and hangs with scans, I notice that the work around is to disable rootkit scanning. However, Vista 64, which is where my problem is, does not allow enabling of rootkit scanning. Vipre scans work fine on my same computer dual booted to xp 32 bit. I've tried msconfig with disabling of startup programs and all non-microsoft services, except vipre related, and still have freezes, usually about 5 to 6% into the scan.
-
I also have the same problem with the program freezing on both quick and deep scans. I have disabled the rootkits and VIPRE still freezes on scanning. I am using Windows XP. -
RSant,
Could you please send us your System Information so we can see what may be causing this.
To get your System Information, go to Start/Run and type in 'msinfo32'. Click Ok. Now go to the File Menu and choose Save. Save this export to your desktop and call it system information. Once it is done, please attach this file to an email and send it to support@sunbelt-software.com

Inappropriate?Jeffrey,
Do you happen to have Embassy Trust Suite installed on your computer? If not, do you have any other security programs installed?
Regards,
Jason Layman -
Inappropriate?No....Embassy Trust Suite is not installed. Also, last time I tried scan and hang of vipre scan occurred, vista offered to go online for a solution....and actually came back saying that the problem was vipre 3.1 beta 6 and had me download build 2243.....so I tried uninstalling 2315 and installing 2243, which (after I managed to get it to run without updating to 2315) also hung up on deep scan, with the same suggestion by vista after going online to offer a solution. Seems to hang up after about 12 minutes, not, apparently, always on the same file.
