New Trial will not download update.
New Trial will not download update. It says current definition version: 0. System Event Details says download of threat definitions failed due to internet connection problems. Not a great start.

Inappropriate?Hi Jim,
Thanks for posting your question. The normal cause of this is that another program is blocking Vipre from reaching the internet. try temporarily disabling your firewall and make sure that Internet Explorer is configured to reach the internet.

Inappropriate?Turned off firewall and it worked. Thank you. A Catch-22. Turn off you security so you can get security. There must be another way?
-
Inappropriate?Hi Jim,
You should be able to set an exception for Vipre in your firewall. I had you turn it off to make sure that is what was blocking it. -
Inappropriate?I recommend the installation offer a list of suggested problems and solutions, e.g. if this fails, check and adjust your firewall settings -- along with simple steps on how to check.
-
Inappropriate?I turned of the firewall, however, the download of threat definitions still failed
-
Inappropriate?I have also disabled the firewall, and the updates still fail.

Inappropriate?KarlKr,
Are you getting a specific error message when you try to update?
Let's see if you're able to connect to our update servers. Please click the Start button then click Run. Type cmd then click OK. In the window that comes up type "ping updates.sunbeltsoftware.com" without quotes and hit Enter. It should say "Reply from" then a 4 part number. What is this number? Does it say it received or lost packets? -
Inappropriate? It says “unable to connect to the remote server”.
When I ping the update hostname, I get replies from 64.128.133.140, no drops.
I have also emailed support@sunbelt. -
Inappropriate?I can set up logging on my Internet router to see if the traffic is leaving the server--what port does VIPRE Enterprise use to talk to sunbelt for updates?
I would normally be able to sniff traffic on the server, too, but I haven't figured out how to do that on Server 2008 yet. -
Inappropriate?VIPRE Enterprise will make a call to updates.SunbeltSoftware.com on port 80 using SOAP protocol. This call will return a link to ec.SunbeltSoftware.com. The server will then download the file using this link. (Again over port 80).
Sincerely,
