New Vipre installation not working. I'm unprotected now.
I just purchased the VIPRE upgrade for my CounterSpy, downloaded and installed VIPRE, and now I have Vipre which says I have no subscription. Plus, my counterspy is gone, and I uninstalled my Norton AV. Now I am unprotected, and can't get VIPRE to work. I tried my CounterSpy Reg Key, but it won't work.

Inappropriate?Hello,
You should have received an email from our online shop with a new key when you purchased. Also when you install VIPRE it should run for 15 days for free. If you didn't receive this email please check your junk mail folders or spam folders as that email may have gone into one of those. If you still don't have this please email onlineshop@sunbelt-software.com and they can forward your key to you.
I hope that this helps you.

It doesn't run for 15 days. Tells me the subscription is invalid and there are 0 days remaining. Also, never received an email with new activation number. -
Inappropriate?Ok, you can possibly find your key here: https://shop.sunbelt-software.com/pro...
And I think the reason your VIPRE is showing no subscription could have to do with some old registry keys or some old files hanging around from CounterSpy. I would try to uninstall and reinstall and see if that works:
Uninstall VIPRE by using the Add/Remove programs located under the Control Panel. Just follow the directions below:
1. Click on the Start menu and click on “Control Panel”
2. Double-click “Add or Remove” Programs
3. Find “VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware” in the list and click on it
4. Choose “Remove”
4. Restart your computer
5. Use the following link to reinstall VIPRE: http://go.sunbeltsoftware.com/?linkid...
6. Click on Download VIPRE.
7. Choose Run and the install will start right after the file is downloaded.
If that doesn't resolve the issue we can certainly give you a temporary key. Please let me know what happens either way. -
Uninstalling/reinstalling allowed me to have the 15-day trial....
It would appear there are two issues here:
1. Upgrading from a previous version of CounterSpy doesn't work, and
2. New registration keys aren't being sent out.
If it helps.... I paid for my upgrade using PayPal, and I am using Windows Vista with the UAC turned off. -
Thanks Greg for letting me know that an uninstall and reinstall will fix the trial issue! Seems there is definitely an issue with the upgrade and with the keys being sent out. I apologize for this experience and these are top priorities for Sunbelt. Enjoy your weekend! -
Uninstalling and reinstalling allowed me the option to have a 15 day trial also, so it's running now. I did not have this option the first time. There was no Reg key in my upgrade email. I sent an email to onlineshop@sunbeltsoftware.com for a registration key. Hopefully I will get one soon. Also, the remainder of CounterSpy subscription is supposed to be applied to VIPRE, but my CounterSpy is gone, so I don't know how this will work. I asked that this be addressed when I am issued a new key, so hopefully this can be applied to that key. My CS doesn't expire intil March 31, 2009! -
I too upgraded from CS to Vipre using online option. Uninstalling and reinstalling (twice) has not solved my problem. There was no Reg key in my upgrade email, so I sent email to onlineshop@sunbeltsoftware.com for a registration key. Laura promptly sent one. However even after uninstalling/reinstallling twice, the program is still not working. I cannot get Updates to run (Current Def Version = 0) nor Active Protection to start. Until this is resolved, I am going to dump VIPRE and attempt to reinstall Counterspy. Very unhappy with wasted time on a $10 upgrade. -
Inappropriate?Very poorly planned intro to a new product, in my opinion. I have been a Counterspy fan for a few years now and thought Vipre looks like a better plan. Well, I've just wasted 2 hours trying to figure this thing out and decided to just dump it all (CS and Vipre) and wait til it functions properly. So now I have no antivirus, no anti spyware and no more patience. Maybe the magic key will show up one day to make it work.
Oh yeah, when I went back to Outlook Express to have another look at the Counterspy News Letter, it's blank! WTH?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Mike, I posted a temporary key for you to use in the meantime if you choose. I apologize for this trouble and I understand your frustrations. Here is the key:
411UF-HPT52-HN59P-GQQ2N-YZ66Y
If you do decide to install VIPRE again please let us know if you are still experiencing the blank email issue.
Thanks. -
Inappropriate? Thanks so much Jamie! Problem appears to be solved with the vipre install. Can you tell me what happens to the rest of my Counterspy subscription? Will it apply to Vipre?
I have everything updated and am running a scan. So far, so good. As far as the blank email, it still is. For some reason, I receive Counterspy News on both my Roadrunner and hotmail accounts. I used the RR account to attempt the download today and now the message is blank?? I checked the same email in hotmail, and it's all there.
Thanks for the assist! Mike -
If you have a current subscription to CounterSpy and wish to upgrade to VIPRE, the cost is only $9.95. Your new VIPRE key will expire at the same time as your original CounterSpy key. Also if you have less than 3 months left in your CounterSpy subscription, we'll add an additional 3 months for free. -
Inappropriate?Hi Mike,
I am really glad to hear that VIPRE is working for you now. The upgrade fee for VIPRE is $9.95 if you already own CounterSpy. I am not exactly sure how our online shop is handling the time that you have left over with CounterSpy, I do know she is working right now to get everyone their keys and I will ask her to stop in this thread and answer you on this. Did you also not have the email with your key in it? I can make sure you get that soon if you don't have it.
Honestly I am not sure why your CounterSpy News email would be blank within your roadrunner account. Is this the account VIPRE is set up to filter? Are all of your emails blank in that roadrunner account?
We can start troubleshooting with those basic questions although it will probably be best if I have a technician work directly with you. I can most certainly do this but since our support department is closed right now I do not want to leave you with no assistance.
Thanks! :) -
Inappropriate? One last thing I forgot to mention. If you have VIPRE Email scanning on and you forward that CounterSpy News from your hotmail account to your roadrunner account, does the email arrive blank? If you could try disabling the email scanning in VIPRE and then forwarding the CounterSpy News letter to your roadrunner account after the first test to see if the email gets stripped that would be helpful. If it doesn't then we will definitely need to get logs from you and figure out what is going on.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Hello, I do apologize for the confusion. When you placed your upgrade order you should have received an order confirmation email. The email contains the registration key you need to enter into the VIPRE to fully activate the subscription. Any time you had left on your CounterSpy subscription will roll over into the VIPRE subscription time. If you did not receive a key in your order confirmation email, please email me directly at onlineshop@sunbeltsoftware.com and I will issue a key for you. Thank you.
-
No key in my email, so I sent an email to you directly. Also, I reinstalled Vipre and it now allowed me a 15 day trial, so I am running for now. Thanks -
Inappropriate?I have been using Counterspy since V1 and participated in all the Beta programs for Counterspy and Vipre.
CS and Vipre are two completely different animals. There is really no such thing as an upgrade across the two platforms. It is best to do a clean uninstall of CS AND a reboot prior to installing Vipre. The same goes for any other AV type product you are trying to replace.
As I recall, if you go to http://beta.sunbelt-software.com and create an account in the forum, you can read the readme files for Vipre and CS.
Vipre has been in beta status for several months and has become stable on my system for at least the last 2 months. Some people will have issues with any app regardless of how well it is written. If registration is your only problem you are lucky. Customer Service has always been great sorting out my reg problems since I have multiple machines and buy long term licences.
Vipre will leave everything you have used or may try literally in the dust. As I write this I am running a deep scan....no slowdown.
Techzilla -
Techzilla, we don't care if they are two completely animals, nor do we care that you have participated in the beta programs. What we do care about is that this has been the worst implementation that most of us have ever seen regarding security software.
Probably like others here, I first learned of the production release through the CounterSpy newsletter. The only information offered was that it was $10 for current CounterSpy members to upgrade.
Upon paying $10 for the software, there were no instructions as to the next steps.... no link to download the software, no nothing. Just a howdy-do, here's your receipt, thanks for buying. I had to download the trial software which didn't work. Second, we never received our registration keys.
I have also been using Counterspy for awhile, and entrust them with the security of my PC. I will trust no other, but that doesn't excuse the fact that this has been a fiasco that the beta testers didn't test. -
I just opened the email I recieved and followed the second link in the email to the upgrade page. You enter your CS reg info and place your order...You pay then you get the download links and your new key in a webpage. Physically there is no difference in the trial or the paid version...they are exactly the same just like CS is.The first link in the email takes you to the trial version where you can read the product details. In the FAQ it says to uninstall CS and any other AV type software.
From the FAQ-------------------------------..
I ran the upgrade from CounterSpy to VIPRE, but the VIPRE Install is not getting through its setup.
Make sure that CounterSpy is uninstalled. Also, we strongly recommend to turn off (better yet uninstall) other antivirus products that have active protection. After that, re-run the VIPRE install. If that does not do the trick, get in touch with our Support Team.
-----------------------------------------------
The upgrade offered was a licence upgrade. I agree the email would imply a software upgrade.the way it was written.
here is a link to the manual uninstall portion of CS
http://beta.sunbelt-software.com/view...
There is also a liknk on that page to the Microsoft cleanup utility.
That should help remove the leftover AV stuff that likely didn't uninstall also,
Many of us beta testers faced these issues and more and again there is a wealth of info in the beta forum. Create an account and you will see everything..otherwise it is hidden. -
Inappropriate?Good morning Jamie. Here are the results from your questions.I have Vipre scanning my RoadRunner acount. The only email that showed the stripped message problem is the Counterspy News that announced the availability of Vipre. It does still have the attachment. BTW, I have the Counterspy News from the previous week and it too is stripped of the message?
I forwarded the CS News from my Hotmail account to my RR account and the message was intact. I forwarded the CS News ( with no message body) from RR to Hotmail and got a blank email with an attachment.
All other emails are fine. It appears that, for whatever reason, the 2 CS News that were in my RR inbox were stripped of messages.
I also disabled Vipre email scanning and forwarded the CS news from Hotmail to RR with no problems.
BTW, I still never received anything from Sunbelt about an activation key. At either address.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need anything else. And thanks again for your help. Mike -
Inappropriate?Well, I thought things were fine but now I can't get a scan to complete. Always seems to encounter an error. This is the fourth one that has failed. Mike
I’m frustrated
-
Mike,
Vipre has a safe mode scanner also. but you failed to mention exactly what the error you got was. If your disc is failing or you are having some other underlying issue, any scanner may encounter difficulties. Is the failure at random spots, or on a certain file? Or possibly is the file it is checking possibly huge? -
Inappropriate? Thanks Techzilla, I originally had the scanner set at the default settings so it would scan everything. It scanned my C and D drives ok but failed when it scanned cookies. It did not fail at the same cookie each time. I turned off the cookie scan and it failed at the registry scan. That's where I currently am with this.
I have attempted 11 or 12 scans both manual and automatic with the same results. Does this make sense?
I am reasonably computer savvy but this is way beyond me. How do you do a safe mode scan and should I try one? Thanks for the assist, Mike -
Mike,
It looks like sunbelt answered the question but to add to that in safe mode most software and services are disabled allowing apps like vipre to run without a conflict. It really sounds though like you have some underlying issues or other problems with your system. If you can successfully run in safe mode then i would try to track down the program by turning off all startup items using MSCONFIG from the run command prior to exiting safe mode...then try a quick scan or something in regular windows. If that works then slowly turning items back on and rebooting would likely nail it down. -
Inappropriate?Hi Mike,
To scan in safe mode, restart your computer and hit F8 before the windows splash screen appears. The boot options window will appear. Choose safe mode. After the computer boots into windows, Open VIPRE and run a manual scan.
If you continue to have the problem, please contact us here in support. We can get some logs from you and see what is happening.

Something I found working remotely on a clents machine last night was I had to turn off the firewall and AP otherwise the system would lock up on a scan. You might try that also. That is a known issue i discovered in the Beta foirums last night. Try turning off Active Protection and see what happens. -
Inappropriate?Well, it appears that I finally have a working, stable Vipre. I just completed a deep scan (3hours and 45 minutes worth). LOL
I ended up removing and reinstalling Vipre and it seemed ok so I went ahead and, with Laura's help, bought the upgrade license. I would like to thank all of you that helped out on my problems. Sunbelts team went above and beyond to assist and explain things and thanks TechZilla and Mike Williams.
I will continue to moniter my Vipre install and also keep an eye on what's going on in these forums. Seems like there is always something new to learn, Thanks, Mike -
Inappropriate?I just noticed something wierd. I'm not sure if it's Vipre related or not. I received the WXP News today. It went to both my Roadrunner and my hotmail accounts, like always. I delated the one on hotmail and decided to look at it with my roadrunner account in Outlook Express. I read it and left it in the inbox. When I went to look at it this evening, the message body was gone. Just an attachment to a blank email?? Any thoughts about what this might be? Mike
-
Inappropriate?Today I received the WXP newletter and the Counterspy news. Glanced at them quickly and decided to look at them later. Once again, when I went to look at them, the message bodies were stripped and I had blank emails with an attachment. I have to think that Vipre is causing this but have no idea why. Other than this, my Vipre install seems to be working fine. Any thought on this problem? Mike
