Outlook conflicts
I am running Vista Home Basic and Outlook 2003. After installing VIPRE with Outlook closed I still receive mail. With Outlook open the Send/Receive tab does not work. If I don't restart the computer after a couple of days Outlook starts sending multiple copies of individual emails (7 to 9 copies).

Inappropriate?Thank you for posting.
Does this happen when Email protection is turned off? File > Settings > Email Protection Tab.

Inappropriate?I had exactly this problem when I first loaded VIPRE. I had previously uninstalled Webroot Spysweeper and AVG v8 - Free. But had forgotten to uninstall Zone Alarm, and the associated ZA Anti-Spyware Toolbar.
Soooo - after uninstalling ZA, then the described problem went away, and I could download a raft of eMails.
BUT then came another PROBLEM:
When I create a new message, and click 'Send' the eMail goes iinto the 'Oubox' like normal, but the status is *open* (the little envelope icon has the flap 'up'.) Therefore Outlook cannot send it.
I have just spent half a day trying to experiment, closing down the various Vipre 'features' Active etc., eMail Protection, Threatnest or whatever. None of it works. Only after uninstalling Vipre can I get that enelope flap stuck down, and then send the eMail.
So now I have re-installed AVG v8 Free, and Zone Alarm Free, and everything is working.
Why am I trying Vipre ???????? You may well ask . . .
I like the idea of just one engine which scans for both viruses and spyware;
It sounds so much more efficient, and the positive reports about a light footprint, reduced demand for PC resources etc...
Looks like the Beta Testing has some way to go.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks for any contributions to help solve the mysteries.

Inappropriate?Under the email settings in VIPRE, (File > Settings > Email Protection tab) try changing the port settings to "0." You will get an error, but just ignore it. This may correct the problem you're describing. An update is going out this month that should correct a lot of the email issues.

Hello Jason, Thanks for that! I just invested half a day in this issue, and have uninstalled Vipre. If there's a new update comeing out in 10 days or so, I think I had better wait, don't you? Maybe you can keep me updated if it comes out earlier.
Thanks again = John -
One small point, if I wait till the next update appears my 15-day Trial will have expired. Will you be able to re-set it, or extend my trial a few weeks? If I am to be a beta tester, I will need time to check it out :-) -
Inappropriate?Hi John C,
We can certainly give you a key to extend your trial period. Please email into our support department (support@sunbelt-software.com) and put in the Subject Trial Key Extension, attn Jamie Hudson and I can make you a key extension. Please also include your post from here and your first and last name.
Thanks,

Thank you, Jamie
You have ensured that I will persevere with Vipre.
I look forward to news of the next update. eMail sent as requested. -
Hi John C, I am glad to hear this! You should have an email from me as of now with the key. -
Just to be sure, and to avoid unnecessary work:
I will uninstall AVG first (have not reinstalled Webroot Spy Sweeper).
Is it enough to 'shut-down' Zone Alarm and re-start it after installing Vipre?
Or is it a requirement to have Zone Alarm also uninstalled while loading?
Second question: is it worthwhile experimenting with Jason's suggestion, or better simply wait for the update? -
Inappropriate? The email issues seem to be unrelated to other programs interfering, so I don't expect Zone Alarm to be the cause. However, during installation of the program, there is a chance that ZA could interfere with the installation process, so just disable ZA during the installation of VIPRE.
VIPRE uses different methods of email scanning depending on your type of email client. For Outlook it uses, "outlookplugin.dll", for Outlook Express it uses "oehook.dll" and for other clients it uses the "TDI" driver. The problem is that this creates the potential for VIPRE not knowing what one to use. There can be many reasons why it would think this. However, in the update you will be presented with three options. I use Outlook, Outlook Express, or other. With these options in place VIPRE will only load the appropriate email driver for your client and should correct this problem.
The current POP settings under the Email Protection tab only affect the TDI driver. Zeroing out these setting will take the TDI driver out of the picture. So if your email works after changing these settings, then we know that the TDI driver was trying to implant itself to the wrong client. VIPRE should then load the appropriate diver for Outlook and continue scanning.
This will all be corrected soon.
Let us know if you did not receive the key from Jamie.

Hello Jason, Many thanks for the fast turnaround in replies. I note the information: sounds like you are saying it will be better to wait for the update due in the next couple of weeks.
BTW - I have received the key from Jamie.
Will be put to good use just as soon as I get news of the update.
