Risk definitions update has been canceled.
Whenever I try to update VIPRE I get a message saying "Risk definitions update has been canceled." This is on clean install laptop dual booting XP and Vista. The update works fine in XP but fails everytiem on Vista. I have uninstalled VIPRE on Vista and reinstalled, it still does the same thing.

Inappropriate?Hello Chris, thank you for posting your question, Check your internet explorer settings, it could be something in here causing the problem, Open internet explorer, click on tools then internet options, click on the connections tab, in here click the lan settings tab, and make sure that only automatically detect settings is selected. Then close out of Internet explorer and see if you are able to update then.
Please let us know if you continue to have problems updating. -
Inappropriate? The box was not checked so I checked it and I still get the same results, the update still will not run.
-
Inappropriate?Chris, im sorry your still having the problem, Try and manually download and install the definitions using these steps, http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Home-H...
Please let us know if you continue to have problems updating. -
Inappropriate?I can download the updates manually and install them, but I have to give this laptop to a user that is out in the field and if I have to rely on him to manually update his defs, it will never happen.
-
Inappropriate?Chris, I want to see if after updating the definitions if it will then update when you tell it to check for updates, the problem could have been something corrupt with the definitions it downloaded, I didn't mean for the manual updates to the replacement for automatic updates.
-
Inappropriate?I just tried it and it still will not update after installing the new definitions.

Inappropriate?Ok, there could be something wrong with the location its trying to reach, try this, click start, then run and type in cmd and press enter. In the window that opens type in ping updates.sunbeltsoftware.com and press enter. Iit should say that the ip address it gets the replies from is 64.128.133.140. Please let me know if it gets this address, or a different one.

I also tried disabling my Windows Firewall and it still would not receive the updates. -
Inappropriate?Chris, Is or was there any other security software installed on this machine, we have seen it where left over parts of a previous installation that was not completely removed causes issues when Vipre tries to connect to the update server.
-
Inappropriate? This is a clean install of Vista with no Dell bloatware on it. VIPRE was installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled. The only other software that might cause a problem is a 8e6 Mobile Client which blocks websites. It is installed on both XP and Vista and the XP still works fine with the 8e6 software on it. I have also monitored the laptops Internet usage while it is attempting to connect to get updates and it is not being blocked.

Inappropriate?Chris, You can try and add an entry to the hosts file to make sure its connecting correctly.
the file is located in c:\system32\drivers\etc\
Add the followingentry
192.168.133.140 updates.sunbeltsoftware.com
If that does not work, please contact us directly at support@sunbeltsoftware.com so we can get some log information from the machine to further troubleshoot this. -
Inappropriate? That IP address doesn't look right. Isn't that a private IP? If I try to ping it it won't respond.
-
