Slow Startup after installing CounterSpy 3
Slow startup boot.
I have Norton Internet Security and CounterSpy 3, Active Protection is disabled, but counter spy does add 5 whole minutes to startup (boot). Any idea how to disable counterspy at startup? I just want to run it on demand

Inappropriate?Hello Avi,
Thank you for contacting technical support.
To remove Counterspy from the list of startup applications, please do the following:
Click start and click Run.
(VISTA: Click Start, type 'Run' in the search box, and click enter.)
Type in without the quotations, "msconfig." Click on the Startup tab, look for Counterspy on the list and uncheck it, then click Apply and OK.
Without Active Protection Enabled, Counterspy shouldn't be adding that much time to your overall startup. I would recommend turning off any programs on that list that might consume a lot of memory during the startup.
Let us know if there are any further questions/concerns.
Sincerely,
Eric

Inappropriate?Eric,
Thank you. I have disabled the SBAMTray.exe, but it is not the issue, the issue is the service SBAMSvc. If I disable the service I can not run CounterSpy on Demand.
Any idea?
Thanks

Inappropriate?Avi,
Are you disabling the CounterSpy service through Services? If you are, then change the startup type drop down box to "Manual" instead of disabled.

Inappropriate?Jason,
Thank you, it does address the issue of on demand. If I disabled the SBAMTray.exe and switched the SBAMSvc service to "Manual", what should I do with the handlers and dll (ie. sbamscanshellext.dll) if anything?
Thanks agian
Avi
I’m almost happy

Inappropriate?Avi,
You shouldn't have to do anything else besides that. :)

Inappropriate?Jason,
The SBAMSvc service, keep on reverting to "Automatic" after running CounterSpy on demand.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Inappropriate?Avi,
Try taking SBAMTray out of the System Startup in "msconfig" as well.
Start > Run, type in "msconfig" and click Ok.
From here select the "Startup" tab, and ucheck the box next to SBAMTray.
Click Apply to save the changes and reboot the computer.

Inappropriate?Jason,
I did, but whenever I run CounterSpy it changes the service back to "Automatic"

I’m waiting for a trick
-
Inappropriate?Avi,
Once you take it out of msconfig, the service status shouldn't matter. When you reboot the computer CounterSpy won't startup until you put that check mark back into the startup section in msconfig.

Inappropriate?Jason,
1. I unchecked SBAMTray.exe from the startup.
2. I changed the SBAMSvc to "Manual"
When I run CounterSpy it changes the SBAMSvc back to Automatic and the process actually start running, which is what causing my computer for additional 5 minutes of boot time. I know that SBAMSvc does matter as it is asking for internet access from my firewall so it must be consuming time and trying to process something.
Please advise
Avi

Inappropriate?Avi,
It looks like we may need to look into this further, please contact our support department with your System Information file and we'll take a look at whats going on.
System Information:
Please go to Start/Run and type in "msinfo32" then click Ok. Now go to the File Menu and choose Save. Save this export to your desktop and call it system information. Once it is done, attach this file to your email to support.
