Strange boot error: "SBBD.exe program not found" - skipping autocheck
I've been evaluating a trial version of Vipre for a few days. Yesterday, my computer started displaying the following error message during boot up:
"SBBD.exe program not found - skipping autocheck"
Google search indicates this is Sunbelt software. The message appears after the BIOS loads, but before Windows starts. I'm running Vista x64 Home Premium.
Any ideas on what's causing this and how to fix it?
Dennis

Inappropriate?Still don't know why this error appeared, but stripping all references to sbbd.exe out of the registry makes the error go away. Time will tell whether I broke something else in the precess.

Inappropriate?Hello Dennis,
Thank you for contacting technical support.
It sounds as though there may be a corruption or damaged in the Vipre directory. I would suggest performing an uninstall and reinstall of Vipre.
Please use the instructions below to remove your copy of Vipre and install a clean copy. Uninstalling VIPRE is a two part procedure but it's very simple. First do the following.
1.Click 'start', and click 'control panels.'
2. Double Click on 'Add or Remove Programs.'
(VISTA: Double click 'Programs and features.')
3. Please look for VIPRE.'
4. Click 'Change'.
5. You will receive a prompt that asks you 'Remove All Items'. Please choose 'Yes' and click 'next.'
6. Please follow the rest of the prompts until you are able to click 'Finish.'
7. You will be asked to restart your computer, please do so.
1.Click start and click Run.
(VISTA: Click Start, type 'Run' in the search box, and click enter.)
2.Type 'C:' and then hit enter.
3. Please Double click on Documents and Settings, All Users, Application Data, Sunbelt Software.
Note: If you do not see these folders, you will have to enable hidden files and folders.
Click tools, and folder options.(VISTA: Click 'Organize' and click 'folder and search options.') Click view. Click on the circle that says 'View hidden files and folders.'
4. Please delete the 'Counterspy' or the ‘Vipre’ folder.
1. Click on the following link to install VIPRE http://go.sunbeltsoftware.com/?linkid...
2. Your web browser will ask you “Do you want to run or save this file?” Please Click Save. Save this file to the desktop.
3. A box will appear that asks you where you want save. Look for the save in field and then click on it. Look for the desktop and then click on it. Then click save.
4. When it is done downloading, you will receive another box that asks “do you if you want to run this file?” Choose yes.
5. You will receive an internet explorer warning. It says “Do you want to run this software?” Click run.
Warm Regards,

Inappropriate?Well, wadayaknow, that works!
I probably caused some collateral damage from uninstalling crapware/useless processes/jacking around with the registry, etc.. New computers come with more junk than a flea market. [8^(
Much appreciation for the help.

Inappropriate?I had the same problem. I followed Eric Milliot's instructions and the problem went away UNTIL....
I placed my PC into hibernation and then brought it up the next day. The error reappeared. Rebooting and even shutting down doesn't clear it. I'm using Vista Ultimate 64-bit. -
Inappropriate?Hello Chris,
Do you have any other security programs for your computer? If so, what are they? If you were to uninstall them and leave only SPF, would it then work without seeing that error message?
Are you receiving any other errors besides this one?
Eric

Inappropriate?Hi there
I have exactly the same problem.
On boot just before windows opens I get the message:
SBBD.exe Program not found - Skipping auto check
I have tried sorting this problem out myself by having a Google but there's little or no information and this thread didn't help my problem.
Can you please confirm that this is indeed a Sunbelt Software program. I've read that it could possibly stand for 'Sunbelt Boot Delete Utility'.
I don't have Viper installed but I did have Counterspy. I also have ESET Nod32
Anti-virus and I recently updated that to ESET Smart Security 4.
I starrted to get the boot error so I deleted and reinstalled Counterspy to see if that made a difference. It didn't. Then I read it's a .exe associated with Viper, something I've never downloaded.
I uninstalled Eset, installed Viper to see if SBBD.exe would appear in my System32 folder and it doesn't.
I have uninstalled both Viper and Counterspy with CS&V Clean from the sunbelt site and run CCleaner but I'm still getting the SBBD.exe error.
If this is a Sunbelt product what is still on my machine that it goes looking for it before windows fully boots up?
Many thanks in advance:)
