Sunbelt Personal Firewall 4.6 and VMWare using Bridged Internet
I have a VMWare running on my Windows XP SP2, which uses a bridged adapter to access the internet. As long as the Personal Firewall 4.6 is up and running, I do not have an internet access. And there has been no question, whether to allow or disallow those connections. What can I do to make it working?

Inappropriate?Thank you for posting. In the firewall configuration under the Network Security > Trusted Area tab, make sure you have your Network Adapter set as Trusted. Also, under the Advanced tab, make sure you have Gateway Mode enabled.
If you're still having problems, please contact our support department at support@sunbelt-software.com or call 877-673-1153. Reference ticket number, 001-00-235483.

Inappropriate?Hi Jason,
thx for your answer. Works nice with NAT and your given settings.
For some reasons bridging does not work, but I think, NAT should be sufficient.

I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Same problem here.
But how comes that the previous versions of the Firewall automatically detected the VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapters (VMware Network Adapter VMnet8 and VMware Network Adapter VMnet1)?
And even worse: The current version 4.6 brings down my LAN connection COMPLETELY, when I run Azureus Torrent-Client! The LAN is only available again after a reboot. -
Inappropriate?Lupo,
The firewall should automatically detect VMware and make a rule for it in Network Security. However, if you don't have your own network adapter set as trusted, nothing is going to work.
To speed things up with Azureus, you need to turn off Resolve Address. Just right click on any blank area in the network security list to disable it. The problem is that SPF is checking every IP the torrent connects to, and there are many.

Inappropriate?Thanks for your reply Jason!
But as I mentioned above: The problem is that the Firewall version 4.6 doesn't detect my VMware Adapters at all, whereas the previous version did. In the meantime, I added the the 2 VMware Adapters manually as trusted items.
With regards to Azureus: I already turned off address resolving a long time ago, because it caused high CPU load. The current problem is that the Firewall brings down my LAN completely, which can only be recovered by rebooting my system (Windows XP/SP3).
I also noticed that the new version of the Firewall adds a binding in my LAN-Adapter's properties: "Sunbelt Software Firewall NDIS IM Filter". This binding has not existed with the previous versions of the Firewall. As a workaround for my LAN problem, I deactivated this binding. This is the only possible solution for me at the moment to keep my LAN working.
Could your tech team please check that?
Best regards,
Lupo -
Inappropriate?Lupo,
The NDIS filter is required for the firewall to run properly, so something may be awry with your installation. Please contact our support department at support@sunbelt-software.com or call, 877-673-1153 m-f 9am-6pm est, so we can look into this further. Reference ticket # 001-00-247106.

Inappropriate?Like Carsten said, this solution allows NAT, but not bridged. Unfortunately for me, I have to use a bridged connection. What else can I try?
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Hello Livia, try this, To get Sunbelt Personal Firewall to let applications on to the Internet, we'll have to temporarily switch Sunbelt Personal Firewall to advanced mode so it can create a rule for your applications.
Please open Sunbelt Personal Firewall. You can do that by double-clicking the purple shield icon, which is in the bottom-right of your screen, near the system clock.
Then, click the Network Security tab, found on the left. Now on the right you'll see a list of applications. Find the one called "Any other application."
Click each of the 4 columns until the columns read ASK ASK ASK ASK. Then click the Apply Button.
Now, try running all your Internet programs now. Notice Sunbelt Personal Firewall will pop up with a dialog box that asks you to click "PERMIT" or "DENY" to an application. Be sure to CHECK the checkbox above these choices so you can make a rule for this application, and then click the "PERMIT" button. Do this for each time you receive the message. Use your programs as normal for a few minutes until you are sure you've got every program setup.
Sunbelt Personal Firewall has now made a rules for these programs. Go back to Sunbelt Personal Firewall where we were and change "Any Other Application" back so they read in this order: DENY PERMIT DENY PERMIT by clicking each of the 4 columns until they are changed to those values, then click Apply.
Sunbelt Personal Firewall is now back in Simple mode, and you have successfully permitted your programs on to the Internet.
