Sunbelt Personal Firewall and Isposure conflicts
Isposure is an application that tracks your ISP broadband service.
I find that it will only run with SPF turned off.
If turned on, as soon as Isposure starts it's testing it hangs and I find I cannot access even my gateway. Turning off SPF at this point results in SPF shutting down, but does not restore access to network. Nor does shutting down Isposure via the task manager.
I have SPF in Simple Mode, and have not been able to find anything that I can tweak to fix this issue.
Any suggestion welcome.

Inappropriate?Thank you for posting. Please follow the directions below:
1. Open Sunbelt Personal Firewall
2. Go to the network security tab
3. Change "Any Other Application" to ask ask ask ask
4. Let Isposure try to connect to the internet and it should give you a pop up asking for permission. Give it permission and choose to remember this action.
5. Change "Any Other Application" to deny permit deny permit
Please let me know if this fixes the problem.

James, Thanks for the rapid response. I have re-installed Isposure, and followed
your advice. At this time the Isposure servers are not reachable (#@#$!) so I'll get back when I can get results.

James,
Application all ask,ask,ask,ask.
Start Isposure Set permissions for Isposure activities.
Reboot
Start Isposure Tests. Isposure connects to it's servers and commences 1st test
(a line speed test).
At this point, SPFSvc.exe goes to 50% CPU utilisation.
Isposure keeps spinning it's wheels getting nowhere.
Noted that SPFCL.exe keeps disappearing (along with the tray icon), & reappearing
Kill Isposure by shutting down it's service.
SPF continues at around 50% for 5 minutes approx, then goes back to zero.
Have repeated this a number of times (demonstratable, repeatable et al).
Please ignore previous comment re no access to gateway when problem occurs. I can ping out when it happens (not fast, but it gets through)
What next, Illustrious One?

Inappropriate?OzziBob, In the firewall, if you go to the network security tab, and uncheck the box at the top that says enable network security, then click apply. Are you still unable to use that application>
-
PeterH,
As suggested, uncheck "network Security". Same failure.
Did process of elimination, allowing all actions in Predfined NW security, unchecking other boxes in Intrusions (Nips & Hips, Application Behaviour Block etc. No change ... sympton failure the same.
Found that Isposure only runs when "Web Filtering" unchecked. With this box checked, and all others in Ad Blocking & Privacy unchecked, it fails.
Turn off "Enable Web Filtering" and all is well.
Your advice appreciated please.

Inappropriate?Hi OzziBob,
I'm glad to here that you figured out a way to get it working. If yo would like to, please send us an email here in support at support@sunbelt-software.com. The tech can gather some log information from you. We'll take a look and see if there is an exception that can entered instead of just disabling the filters. -
Hi Mike,
I did as you suggested and sent an email asking for assistance in gathering log info to send. I also suggested the possibility that Sunbelt might instal Isposure (it's free) and check it out.
I received the following response to this email
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Sunbelt-software support.
By disabling web filtering you are not loosing any security. As a matter of
fact most up to date browsers already have the functionality built in.

I guess I like Mike's offer rather than Jame's response. So, again, what log info should I gather and to whom do I send it (assuming Mile's offer still stands)?

Inappropriate?Hi Bob,
I apologize. After reading this post one of my upper tier techs did look into and install Isposure. Unfortunately he is off on vacation so I can't ask him what he found out.
The following link is to a utility that will pull the log information from your copy of the firewall. Use the ticket number referenced in Jame's email. After running the utility, please email the file back and put attn: Mike in the subject line. I'll see what I can figure out.
Sorry again for the inconvenience. -
Inappropriate?HI Bob,
I'm sorry, I didn't have enough coffee yet, I forgot to add the link to my last post.
