Inappropriate?Hello Joe,
Please update your definitions to the latest version and please boot your computer in safe mode and run a deep scan. Once the deep scan has been completed, please run another deep scan in normal mode to see if Vipre is still detecting it. If it does not remove the threat after running a deep scan in normal mode please let us know.
Windows 2000/2003
* If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
* Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
* When you see the black-and-white Starting Windows bar at the bottom of the screen, start tapping the F8 key. The Windows 2000 Advanced Options Menu appears.
* Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected. In most cases, it is the first item in the list and is selected by default.
* Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
* When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.
Windows XP/Vista
If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer, booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.
* If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
* Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
* Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
* Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
* Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
* When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.
Regards,
Perry

Inappropriate?I have been fighting this same problem for almost 2 weeks!! After detecting this trojan/worm, I am still unable to access any AV website, so sunbelt updates/downloads are impossible. Also, the worm has disabled safe mode.
boot - gives a blue screen error under XP/home. I'm still working with Sunbelt to resolve this. Will now try the latest Vipre revision to see if it can find/remove the offending codes the worm embedded. Two PCs are infected.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?JamesB, use the VIPRE Rescue program.
http://live.sunbeltsoftware.com
Download it, put it on a USB stick, go over to the infected systems and run it. -
I tried this method with no success - so far nothing provided has been able to find the remaining malicious code that blocks AV website access and disables the safe mode boot! I have sent multiple diagnostic scans, but apparently they have'nt been of any value. -
JamesB, Please contact us directly at support@sunbeltsoftware.com if you have not already have. So that we can get the information we need to update our definitions to remove it.
Thanks,
Peter -
SSclean finally solved the redirect problem and permitted me to do a direct update and rescan (nothing found). I then ran MS Onecare safety scan and it detected Conficker.D, which Vipre didn't see. Anyway, the problem of a disabled Safe Mode boot remains, since Conficker deletes safeboot code in the registry. -
Inappropriate?James, we are constantly updating any new definitions for any of the new variations of the Conflicker threat that are in wild or being released. We should have all the variations is in our database, so we should be able to find and remove it from any machine infected.
And we are still working on your specific case as soon as we get the logs we requested from you.
If you have any questions please let me know.
Thanks,
Peter
