Vipre auto updat not auto?? WTH??
Why is it that automatic update requires me to tell it to go ahead?
I get the little yellow shield, and then have to click on it and tell it to update!! I thought the whole idea of automatic meant that I didn't have to do anything!! Shouldn't it just update when updates are available?? WTH???

Inappropriate? Is it the windows update that is prompting you that updates are available, or is it Vipre?
-
Um... Vipre... If it was windows, I would not be asking here... You really should give your customers a little more credit than that.
Hmmmm... let me rephrase my question to make it more clear...
Is there a way to make VIPRE "AUTOMATICALLY" update it's defs so that I do not have to jump through the hoops to do it? So that when updates are available VIPRE just "updates" without my input, just like 90% of the other antivirus software on the market??
I don't want to have to fiddle with it, I just want it to do it's job and not need me to tell it to!
It's bad enough that I just had to go through a complete re-install thanks to your new software "Error reading setup initiation..." BS!
I really thought I was purchasing something better than that. You are working on the bugs right?? or did I just toss $50 down the internet toilet?
Did I pay for a BETA program? -
Inappropriate?I am sorry for the misunderstanding. Vipre should apply the definition updates automatically, there is nothing you have to click on to make it apply those updates. If a notice does appear in the system tray you don't need to click it for it to be able to update.
You can turn off those notices now by right clicking on the Vipre icon and make sure that the Show balloons is unchecked. This will make it update without giving any notices. -
But this does not solve the problem (I have it too). Vipre still does not update, the yellow shield is there telling that something is wrong, and Windows appears with a warning saying that the AV is out of date. This is a core function in Vipre that defenitely should not fail, and since it does, it must be of real concern to the programmers. -
Wait, you're saying if I turn off the balloons, It will just automatically update the defs? I won't need to click anything or do anything... I can forget all about my AV protection, because it is simply doing it's job without my input???
Here's the thing, If it's that easy, why isn't that the first answer you gave me???
Ok, so the balloons are off... we shalll see... -
Inappropriate? If you tell it to manually update is it able to?
-
Yes, it will update on command like a good little program. The point is that I don't think I should have to tell an automated update to update... .Ya think??? -
Inappropriate?Yes, it does. One time I had to ask Vipre three times but the updates finally came through. It is the automatic function that does not work properly - especially if I do not not use the PC for a couple of days and then start it.
-
Inappropriate?Try and uninstall Vipre and then Reinstall it. You can do this by going to add/remove programs in the control panel. And then re download the installer from the following link, http://go.sunbeltsoftware.com/?linkid...

This seems to be the Patterned answer to many of the issues I have found in this program.... "If it don't work, re-install it" You guys learn to code from microsoft teachers?
I am thinking there needs to be some more testing before you advertise that you have a better system than the rest... I am feeling "took" in this deal!
By The Way, I have re-installed this glitched program four or five times now. I am thinking the next time I have to remove it I will install something that works instead.
On the good side, I have had no virus issues while running Vipre... Too bad I am not able to telll my friends that it is worth the price. -

Chris, what error message are you getting when it fails to update? -
Hi there,
It just happened again: Vipre does not update the AV database automatically. I get a yellow triangual, and the message that shows when I move the cursor across it is: "Your risk definitions are out of date". Windows will almost certainly add a similar warning in not too long. So what do I do? I can update the database manually, after which Vipre will do it automatically for a while. And then back to ground zero. Is there a more permanent solution? -
Hi Chris,
Sorry to hear it happened again. Can you contact us here directly in support at support@sunbelt-software.com
We can have the tech pull some log information and see where it is failing. -
Inappropriate?Hi,
I wanted to step in and see if I can explain it to you a little differently. The yellow icon in the system tray is a "needs attention" icon this is separate from from the balloon pop ups. The yellow icon stays until either you close it or attend to action that is needed. This is where you will see messages like "Scan results are available" or "Definitions are out of date" once you view the scan results or run an update, the yellow icon will go away.
The balloon pop ups are notifications. they will pop up and say something like "You updates have finished" then they will go away.
Disabling the balloon pop ups only disables these pop up notification. The scans and Active protection are still working.
We update VIPRE's definition files several times a day. Vipre should automatically check for updates every two hours (default setting) If Vipre isn't automatically updating you may want to contact us directly here in support. We can help get it working for you.
