VIPRE blocks Windows Update....
Recently my VIPRE started to block windows update. The regular windows update files I can get to run with the "Allow" command but VIPRE also decided to block bits (background intelligent transfer service) and I am now in the situation where I have to disable VIPRE in order to get updates to Windows (well, I guess I can just "unblock" BITS). Guys - if this is intentionally you should not be in the anti-malware business. If it is not intentionally - fix it.....

Inappropriate? Please make sure that your active protection settings are set to medium instead of high.

Inappropriate? It should defiantly not be flagging those files.
To fix the problem please restore them from quarantine, and when it does that, add it to the always allow list, and also have it send a copy to us so that we can find out why it flagged those files and prevent it from doing so in the future. -

Inappropriate?I had the same situation during the very last MS Patch Tuesday. And after clicking the Allow button dozens of times and losing my patience, I disabled the active protection. Then the Windows Update progress--which got stuck for hours--run steadily and fast, as always before.
I think this is a critical incompatibility issue! How come a software lauded as state of the art behaves so weirdly in a Windows (Vista) environment?

Inappropriate?hello Paultx, We are always working to resolve these false positives when we encounter them. In most cases it only occurs on a very small number of users, because its a match on the heuristics of Vipre, and not from the definitions.
With Threatnet enabled, Vipre sends us basic information on what it encounters, so that we can ensure that these do not happen in the future. -
Inappropriate? This is very annoying, sometimes vipre shows 20 consecutive warnings about windows update activities. I have my settings in medium. So I have to disable Vipre or click on 20 warning messages in order to update!
I'm seriously considering movig back to eset's nod32. -
Inappropriate?Luis, Because the windows updates modify windows files Vipre may identify part of it as being dangerous, we are working to resolve this in our definitions, but until then disable Vipre's active protection, and then tell it to update and that should prevent those warnings.
-
Inappropriate? You can also change an active protection setting to allow you to leave active protection on and not have problems updating. To do this please open VIPRE. Click on File then Settings. Go to the Active Protection tab. Uncheck the "Prompt for action if VIPRE determines that a program has suspicious characteristics" option then click Apply.

Inappropriate?I have a slightly different problem - my wife clicked block to some of the requests from Windows AU, and the machine is now stuck in a loop where it says it is installing the 3rd of three upgrades, then reboots, appears do do a very quick scan, then displays the windows logo, then >> back to installing 3rd of 3 etc
This happens even in safe mode, and also even when I try to restore form the last known good point.
I'm guessing that Vipre is not letting the install run - how can I get around this? Please advise asap, as the machine is unusable.
regards,
Milton

Inappropriate?Hello Stilt, You may need to try and use system restore to go back to before the updates tried to apply, so that you can make sure it does not block them again.
