Vipre causes all programs to not respond for 10-15 seconds repeatedly
Why is Vipre making my PC so slow? I can barely surf the net. Get "Not responding" messages on most programs (including Vipre). If I shut it down everything runs normal again...

Inappropriate?Hello Paul,
Thank you for contacting Sunbelt technical support.
Please use the following instructions to disable VIPRE's on access checking monitor.
1. Please open VIPRE.
2. Click on file and then settings.
3. Click on the 'Active Protection tab.'
4. Please uncheck the box that says, 'Check files when they are opened or copied.'
*VIPRE has two different threat detection engines. The scan engine and Active protection. When that feature is checked the scan engine will look at the file when it is copied or opened, much like right clicking on the file and choosing scan now. With this feature turned off, VIPRE's active protection will still monitor for suspicious behavior and known bad programs when the program or file is launched.
Thank you,
Sean Donnelly

I can understand this 'quick fix', but what I don't understand is that you would even suggest to 'dummy down' the product. Sunbelt touts their product to not interfere with computer operations; Sure, great, as long as you trun most of it off? -
Inappropriate?CaptKirk,
It sounds like there is some software on your system which is conflicting with VIPRE's Active Protection. Normally you shouldn't need to turn this option off but turning it off will make VIPRE more compatible with other software running another real-time protection. With this option disabled VIPRE will still be scanning any files which are being executed. Leaving this option turned on will have VIPRE scan any file that is accessed on the system in any way. -
I have no other security software installed. Just VIPRE and SPF. -
Inappropriate?CaptKirk,
Did you have any other security software previously installed? Many anti-virus programs won't uninstall completely or properly and can leave files behind which can cause conflicts with any other security software installed on the system. -
No, I installed from a clean Acronis backup. -
Inappropriate?CaptKirk,
It's probably best if you contact us directly at support@sunbeltsoftware.com so we can collect some system information from you to check what might be causing the issue.
