VIPRE Consumer Core Engine Update
Later this week we plan on sending out an updated version of our VIPRE Core Engine. This update will be added to and sent with the definition files.
This update will increase the normal definition file size to roughly 160MB. The larger file size may pose a problem for customers with slower internet connections. If you encounter a problem updating, the following steps will walk you through manually updating the files.
Download the most recent definition file for your language using this download link to your computer:
http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Home-H...
Open VIPRE (right-click on the tray icon or double-click on the shortcut put on your desktop)
From the main menu, select "File" and choose "Settings..."
In the "Update Now" section, choose "Browse"
Navigate to where you downloaded the file
Select the file you downloaded and the installation will proceed automatically
*** Note: The above instructions only apply to VIPRE Consumer edition

Inappropriate?What about VPE Console
-
The core update for VPE also went by definition update. If your definitions are already in 5XXX range you have the core update. -
Inappropriate?Well we are stuck with 5039, and want to manually update VPE Console, need step-by-step procedure for it please!
-
Inappropriate? The current definition version is 5045 as of the time of this posting. If you're still having trouble updating the definitions on the console, I'd like to have you contact support either by email or phone.

If the definitions are not updating, we'll definitely need to look deeper into the situation to correct it. -
Inappropriate?I have installed this update and found that the scans now fail !
I read in the FAQ's that unticking "enable rootkit detection" could solve this problem. IT DID! - but isn't rootkit scanning important? I didn't have any problem before the latest upgrade and I presume that the rootkit scanning was enabled in the previous version so why can't I scan now without altering the settings?

Inappropriate?John,
Rootkit detection may not have been enabled on the previous version either. It doesn't come turned on by default because it can sometimes conflict with other security software installed on the system. It's also known to conflict with other security software that has been uninstalled but has not uninstalled properly. A lot of anti-virus software will not uninstall properly, leaving several files on the system which can cause conflicts with any other security software.
Do you have any other security software presently installed on the system? What security software have you previously had installed? -
Nick H,
Rootkit IS enabled! I am dual booting W 7 and Vipre s/ware version is 3.102416, definition version 5055 on this O/S (I haven't as yet installed the upgrade 3.1.2710)
It IS the default setting on both s/ware versions!
I have run Counterspy/Vipre in conjunction with other A/Vs and haven’t observed any conflict.
I have Avast! (Home edition) installed and running.
I previously have had AVG installed, Ad-Aware and Spybot.
Note:- I have reformatted my C:\ partition about six months? ago. -
Inappropriate?John,
This may be something specific to Windows 7. We don't currently support Windows 7 as it is still in beta. Are you having this same trouble on a different OS? -
Nick H.

Inappropriate?John,
Please contact us directly at Support@sunbeltsoftware.com so that w can get some log information from you to help us determine what is causing the scan to crash when root-kit detection is enabled.
I am sorry for any inconvenience this causes.
Thanks,
Peter.
