Inappropriate?Jano, thank you for contacting Sunbelt Software.
It sounds like something is blocking VIPRE's connection to our servers. Please make sure you don't have any other security software such as a firewall set up so that it would block VIPRE's connection.
Let's check to see if you're able to connect to our update servers from your computer. Please click the Start button then click Run. Type cmd and click OK. In the window that comes up type "ping updates.sunbeltsoftware.com" without the quotes and press Enter. It should say "Reply from" and then a number. What is that number? Does it say it Receieved or Lost packets? -
Inappropriate?No, I do not have any other security software installed. The Windows XP firewall is switched off. I even switched off for a short while Sunbelt firewall, to no avail.
I followed your advice. Apparently there is no ping connection because I got following answer:
Ping request could not find host updates.sunbeltsoftware.com. Please check the name and try again.
Everything is fine when I tried to ping „sunbeltsoftware.com” (packets sent 4, received 4, lost 0 (0%loss)) -
Inappropriate?Jano,
It's possible there may be a threat on your system that is preventing VIPRE from updating. Has VIPRE found any threats on the system recently?
I'd suggest you manually update your definitions from here:
http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Home-H...
There are instructions on how to update on that page. Once you have updated your definitions you should try running a deep scan of your system in safe mode. To get your computer into safe mode you'll need to restart it. As the computer is starting up keep tapping the F8 key until a menu comes up. Choose the "safe mode" option. Once Windows has started up in safe mode, run a deep scan with VIPRE. Is VIPRE able to detect any threats on the system? -
Inappropriate?I am having the same issue. New installs fail on updating definitions every time. This was working a couple days ago!
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I updated the definitions and scanned the system in "safe mode". VIPRE did not detect any threats on the system. The problem with updates persists.

Inappropriate?Has VIPRE found any threats on the system recently? To check this open VIPRE. Click on Manage on the top right. Click View history. You'll be able to find information about previous scans here. If any of scans in the last week or two have found anything please let me know what VIPRE had detected and removed.
Something is blocking your computer from connecting to our update servers. There are several threats which will purposely block antivirus software from updating.
It's possible this could also be due to settings on the system. Please open Internet Explorer. Click Tools then Internet Options. Click the Connections tab. Click LAN Settings. Make sure it is set to Automatically detect settings. Normally you wouldn't want anything else checked on this page.
The problem may also be due to your router or modem. Please try unplugging your router if you have one as well as your modem for 30 seconds. Plug the modem back in then the router. Does this solve the problem? -
Three risks were discovered/removed during last weeks:
1)Trojan.Bckdr.CRQ;
2)Trojan fake alert;
3) Trojan.DNSChanger.Gen -

Inappropriate?I have a similar issue where what ever virus is in there will not allow vipre to update the defs, (it is also blocking some websites and programs that will kill it like spybot, prevx andwindows update) I dl the def files but the instructions indicate there is a BROWSE button, when there is not. http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Home-H...
i have the file but now how do you get it into the program?
-
Inappropriate?Jimbo, thank you for contacting Sunbelt Software.
Please open VIPRE. In the top left click File then Settings. There should be a browse button on this page. If there isn't then you aren't running the latest version of VIPRE. The latest version is 3.1.2416. You can download the latest version here:

Inappropriate?Yesterday I purchased, installed, and registered VIPRE, but I am not able to download the definitions. I wrote a separate e-mail to customer support.
I’m frustrated!

Inappropriate?I thought I would try vipre, so far so good, I have dial up so I had to manual update my first time , that was awful, but after that long update my second auto update went quick and smooth. But then after that I went to update it for only its third update well the download even for dial up went smooth and quick and downloaded fully, But the new risk definitions will not apply, it just sits there running for hours saying applying definition updates and it never finishes. I have reinstalled even reinstalled windows. still the same problem. And I cant always manual download the files when downloaded full and all at once are way too big and a major problem to do. But even if I did, it apparently wont apply them anyway because it auto downloads fine after the first big update which I saved. I guess it was too good to be true back to good old avast for me. And no I had no malware or virus on my computer as I said I reinstalled windows. but if a virus or malware causes this its not worth buying for that reason either.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?WOW I though I would give vipre 1 more chance. I reformatted and reinstalled xp again, then updated xp again, then installed vipre again, the update I saved installed fine, then when I went to update it again OH WHAT A SURPRISE ,for 4 hours I waited I saw it download the newer updates and after it downloaded the new updates it said applying risk definitions this may take a few minutes, A few minutes my kfdgkjdhfkghdkfg cause after 4 hours it was still trying to apply risk definitions this may take a few minutes. aaaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhhhh. To anyone who thinks of buying this product stay away it still has to many bugs and flaws. This is a good example of poor programing at its best. It really is good and true at what it says when it works. When it works it is one of the best. But it is poorly programed stay away unless you want to loose money and be annoyed!

Inappropriate?Im sorry I never have complained about a product so bad It really is a good product and good at removing malware, But If you went through what I went through? OH MAN, This product really needs more time to be perfected before it goes on the market. But they jumped the gun it looks like. I hope it does not hurt them. Because it one day will be great once the bugs are worked out.
I’m indifferent
