VIPRE gets thumbs down
How should we react to the negative review of VIPRE in PC PRO (May 2009 UK Edition)?
In the May 2009 edition of PC Pro (UK) the review of VIPRE gets only 3 out of 6 stars. There are some very positive comments about VIPRE's light footprint, ease of use and speed. However, their test shows VIPRE only intercepting 85% of threats. The final comment is "this slick package isn't a smart investment.
That's encouraging.

Inappropriate? No, they tested the product in the middle of the 5000 series update.
When we notified them of this, they revised the review. You can see it here:
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/security/revie...
It was still done on a version that was not complete in its update to the 5000 series of definitions, but due to publication deadlines, they couldn't wait the extra few days to run the test again. If they had waited just another couple of days, I think you would have seen even better results.
Nevertheless, it's not a bad review at all. -
Inappropriate?Alex,
Thanks for that - and thanks for the link to the revised review. I guess if VIPRE wasn't any good I'd have switched to Kapersky or Norton 2009.
PC Pro were right in the first review to highlight VIPRE's speed and light footprint. That's what sold me on VIPRE in the first instance after Zone Alarm Security Suite got all clunky and cumbersome - and I'd been using ZASS for years.
With anti-malware software you have to trust the product you use (because you can hardly run 3 different products at once) and - most importantly - the supplier. Having used CounterSpy for some years I trusted Sunbelt.
I’m cool.
