Vipre hangs Outlook 2000 when closing
Vipre Enterprise is causing Outlook 2000 clients to hang when closing. I'm having to End Task on the Outlook process to close it (logging off, or shutting down also kills it). Email scanning is NOT enabled. Many clients, including my own computer, are experiencing the issue after rolling it out to my network. We never had the problem before this install (Symantec Corp. 10 was installed previously).
We also have Ninja Email Security on our Exchange 2007 machine.
All clients are Windows XP (or 2000).
Vipre is also installed on the same Ninja/Exchange box.
On a side note: your Symantec Uninstaller DOES NOT uninstall during roll out. This caused a lot of trouble when I did decide to roll out to clients. Most froze up during log on.

Inappropriate?I am using an Eval version of Vipre Enterprise. I have seen the same symptoms. These are exhibited on our Citrix server (Windows Server 2003) and on my workstation (Windows XP SP3).
To test, I uninstalled the Sunbelt Enterprise Agent from my workstation and tried again, and Outlook shuts down properly.
To re-state the problem:
If you do not have Outlook open (btw, we use Outlook 2003 SP3 with all updates), and
1.right click on a file on your desktop, and choose "Send to... Mail Recipient" , Outlook brings up the email ready to send. Task Manager shows that Outlook.exe is running
2. if you either send the email to somone, or go to File ... Close , the email windows shuts down, however Outlook.exe still show up as a running process
3. try to right click on another file and do "Send To... Mail Recipient", and Outlook pops up a window saying "The Operation failed"
Uninstalling the agent completely fixes the issue. I also tried disabling the Email Protection from the Enterprise Admin console, but that did not fix. Re-installing the agent makes the issue come back.
I do not have any Outlook add-ins installed.
Thanks for any help. -

Sunbelt replied to me off these forums, and provided a temp work-around. It's a known issue that they are working on, apparently.
To fix the Outlook Hang problem, unregister the following DLL by running this command;
regsvr32 -u "C:\program files\sunbelt software\sbeagent\sbamoutlook.dll"
I've had some success with some clients by running this, and some others not.

Thanks, that worked for me! -
Inappropriate?Outlook 2003 also hangs on me when I run VIPRE, but all I got from support was a "we'll look into it" reply; by then, I had lost confidence in the product, and your experience that the work-around only works sometimes doesn't restore much confidence.
