Vipre Issue: Error - System Updates. - Download of a new software version failed due to internet connection problems.
This occurred about 4 hours after i had recommenced using my laptop after a fortnights absence. I am currently using Version. 3.1.2416
A question. When you perform an update via the context menu, it only appears to update the virus definitions. How do you perform a System Update check. IF this is not available - is it possible for it to be added. It is rather confusing to only appear to have the option to update the definitions.

Inappropriate?Hello Victor,
Thank you for contacting technical support.
Try and ping our update servers. You can do this by doing the following:
(If you’re using Windows XP) Click on Start and select ‘Run,’ then type ‘cmd’ in the Run window.
(If you’re using Vista) Right click the main window’s button and select Explorer, in the search bar type ‘Run.’ Then type in cmd.
Now type “ping updates.sunbeltsoftware.com” (without quotes)
Please make note of what IP address is being pinged and let me know what it is.
When the updates go out to check for definitions, it should be also looking for new software versions first.
Warm Regards,
Eric Milliot

hi Perry,
I have responded to Eric's query first.
Now. in the past i have downloaded the latest copy of Vipre - all 62MB only to discover that the download did not have the latest virus defs, and the program failed on update and decided to download the FULL definitions, another 62 MB - which was a total waste of bandwidth. My biggest criticism of Vipre is that the installer and virus defs are NOT separated - they should be - The installer is then kept at a reasonable size and then as a part of the installation, the latest defs are sourced - thus avoiding duplication of the process. ( other antiVirus products seem to be able to do this seamlessly.)
It does concern me that the installer and virus defs DO get out of sync, and in this day and age, it should not be happening.
I am in australia, and a number of ISPs have restricted download limits, once they start appearing in the US then you will find local customers complaining about the same scenario
