Vipre terminated unexpectedly
Since a few days Vipre suddenly stops, the icon gets red. I read this in the windows log file: Event ID 7034: The Sunbelt Vipre Anti-Virus Service terminated unexpectedly. After starting up the service again it happens again and sometimes the computer locks up.
In the system log files I often read this warning:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source (SBAMSvc) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Starting the controllers.
I unistalled Vipre and installed McAfee again. I am disappointed.

Inappropriate?Hi phegi,
Thanks for posting. I'm not sure why this had occurred without further going into the log files. I would of recommended uninstalling/reinstalling Vipre. If you would like to give Vipre another try please use the link below to re-download it.

Inappropriate?Problem seems to be caused by the combination of Vipre and the Comodo firewall. After uninstalling the Comodo firewall and installing the PC Tools firewall the problem disappeared.
-
Inappropriate?I had exactly the same problem and I resolved it by uninstalling Comodo and installing ZoneAlarm.
I feel very strongly that Comodo and Vipre are not compatible and if you try to do a deep scan while using the above combination the scan will stop and at that point Vipre will stop running which could cause your computer to freeze -
Inappropriate? My way is to deactivate the Defense+ in Comodo. After that, quick scan has no more problem and deep scan still may cause the Vipre service to die. Anyway, I decided to live with this configuration for the time being and hope future revisions of either software will get this resolved.
-
Inappropriate?I too have the problem of the Vipre service stopping. It seems to happen when my computer is idle for a while. I call Sunbelt and was told it was probably the Comodo FW Defense +. I deactivated Defense + but still have the problem. I'm getting really frustrated with Vipre. Has anyone found a real fix for this issue. Security software is pretty useless if it stops running.

Inappropriate? You may configure the vipre service to restart when it fails.
1. Double click on the Sunbelt VIPRE Antivirus Service
2. Select the "Recovery" tab.
3. Select "Restart the Service" for the 3 list box.
4. Set the restart time to any time you want (I set it to 1 minute). -
Inappropriate? On a Dell box with the same problem it was related to EMBASSY Trust Suite software - the wxvault.dll was causing the problem. I deleted the wxvault.dll value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\AppInit_DLLs & rebooted to resolve my issue.

Inappropriate?I too have this same problem. It seems to happen if I leave my computer on for a couple days. The service just stops. If I click on the V Shield on the taskbar is locks the machine. If I start Vipre from the start menu it starts fine without lock. I don't have the above registry entry nor do I have any of the security programs mentioned above. This is a clean install of Vista X64 Ultimate that has AVG Anti-Virus. That was uninstalled for Vipre.
-
Inappropriate?I have been experiencing Vipre shutdowns - I do not have a 3rd party firewall or Embassy security installed. My machine is a custom built box. It would be quite helpful if Vipre would make proper entries in the Application log on the box. I have uninstalled and re-installed Vipre (doing it again, in case the latest download is newer than my build - 3.1.2416).
-
Inappropriate?SeanRinVA,
Do you have any other security software installed or was there any other security software previously installed on the system? -
Inappropriate? No, no other security software is installed, and the previously installed app seemed to have uninstalled properly. After the most recent uninstall & reinstall, Vipre seems to be behaving. I'll keep monitoring and post again if there's a further issue.
-
Inappropriate?Has there been any resolution to this problem? I'm still having this issue with Windows Vista Ultimate. It looks like another person with this OS is having the same problem. It shuts down after automatic scans, but manual scans it continues to work. It only happens on my one desktop computer. It's very frustrating!
I’m frustrated
