Why does sunbelt firewall not work with cisco vpn?
I have been using the paid version of sunbelt firewall for almost a year with no problems. I work at home as a university reasearch assistant and use Cisco vpn to connect to the university's server. I could not use vpn with the sunbelt fire wall so I would disconnect the firewall when I wanted to use Cisco vpn but now when I disconnect the firewall I am able to connect with vpn but the internet does not work - always get a 'page not found'. I have done a test and found when I uninstalled the Sunbelt firewall completely then my vpn works fine. Is there anything that can be done so I can continue to use sunbelt firewall and be able to use my vpn?

Inappropriate?Npeuraharju,
In the 'Logs & Alerts' tab under the NIPS section, do you see any entries in there regarding your vpn being blocked? If you do, we may be able to edit your configuration to get this working for you.
Regards,
Jason Layman -
Thanks for your reply. I checked the logs & Alerts under the NIPS section - nothing... The strange thing is even if I exit the program completely with right-click it still prevents me from using the internet when the VPN Client is connected. ONLY if I completely uninstall the whole firewall does the VPN Client work normally.... -
Inappropriate? This may have something to do with the drivers. Make sure your version of SPF is up to date. The current version is 4.6.1861. You can download this version from the link below. If you need any further assistance, please contact our support department at support@sunbeltsoftware.com with your System Information.
SPF 4.6.1861:

System Information:
Please go to Start/Run and type in 'msinfo32.' Click Ok. Now go to the File Menu and choose Save. Save this export to your desktop and call it system information. Once it is done, please attach this file to your email to support.

Inappropriate?Hello Npeuraharju,
I am sorry to hear that you are having technical difficulty,
Please try to enable Gateway Mode within the firewall.
To do this, please open the Firewall
Please go to Network Security > Advanced Tab
Please enable Gateway Mode and you should now be able to connect with your VPN.
Please let us know if you need further assistance.

Thanks Perry for your reply. I have the enable Gateway Mode already enabled. It was still not working. But thanks to several days of patient help from Nick with Sunbelt Consumer Support the problem has been solved. I just had to disable the Sunbelt Software Firewall NDIS IM Filter from my VPN connection and now it works fine. I understand that the connection will not be protected by the SPF but I have the Windows XP Firewall and my A-Link RoadRunner 24AP(i+) router modem has a firewall. Also I am told that the Sunbelt techs now believe they know what the main problem is and will be fixing it within the firewall. I am very pleased with the friendly, patient and professional help I received from Sunbelt Consumer Support. -
Inappropriate?"Enable Gateway Mode" solve the same problem with "The GreenBow VPN Client".

Inappropriate?I had the same problem,
you need to disable the firewall services using msconfig.
Then you reinstall cisco VPN and activate the SPF services again.
In my case it works now again.
My problem now is, and thats why I am here, I can not switch users if SPF is active.

Inappropriate?Wfausa,
Thanks for letting us know. Did you install SPF in Advanced Mode?
Under Network Security, if you uncheck the 'Enable Network security module' check box. Does the problem remain?
