Will VIPRE function with Thunderbird and SSL?
I have seen problems reported about a fix for VIPRE and the secure ports (995 & 465) for outlook, but nothing for Thunderbird. I need to use these ports and if I set them up in VIPRE, it always blocks the connection to the server.
If you blank out the ports or leave them on the defaults, the email functions but I don't think VIPRE is scanning them. How can I be sure that VIPRE is protecting my emails?

Inappropriate?Hi Bikewrecker,
Unfortunately The email protection under "I use another email program" option does not support SSL. This includes any email client other than Outlook or Outlook Express. I apologize for any inconveniences this has caused.
Thanks,

Hi Tim. Thanks for the reply. Are there going to be any fixes or additions to the product to support email scanning if using these ports? I like this product and have paid for a subscription, but I'd like to have my email scanned as well, like they advertise it too. -
Inappropriate?Hi Bikewrecker,
Scanning of these types of email accounts will work in Outlook and Outlook Express, but unfortunately not for other alternative email clients.
I have sent this to the developers as a request.
I apologize for any inconveniences.
Thanks,

Inappropriate?Same problem here. T-bird/ISPs requiring SSL connect/Vipre do not play well together.
AFAIK, zeroing the port addresses will allow the Email Protection to be checked, but no scanning will actually occur. Having email borne malware go directly from the pipe to quarantine is comforting I suppose, but will Vipre's Active Scan engine not intervene if the malevolent load attempts to execute? Just guessing here, but this strikes me as more a problem of psychological comfort than system threat.
Seems worthy of a fix however, since many/most large ISPs (e.g., ATT, Qwest, et. al.) require encrypted connections.
I’m Somewhat chagrined

Inappropriate?Dennis,
You're correct, VIPRE's active protection should prevent any threats from being executed even with Email Protection disabled.
We are currently working on the Thunderbird SSL problem and it should be one of the bugs fixed in the hotfix we're releasing very shortly. -
Inappropriate?Hi Nick,
Cool, glad to hear that. I'm a refugee from the bloatware offered by the 800 lb. gorillas in the anti-malware market . . . so far I really like what I see in Vipre. Please don't lose sight of your original objectives as Vipre's market share grows. Most of us don't use computers so we can run anti-virus software, but some of your competitors seem to think so. [8^) -
Inappropriate?I use thunderbird with SSL. I set the port to 995 in Vipre, and I cannot download emails. So this is not fixed.
So what is the point of having Vipre? I do not use active protections since it makes the computer so slow.
