Windows 2000 Vipre slow, slow, slow
I have installed Vipre on 3 computers. Both the Windows XP machines seem to be fine. The Windows 2000 machine slowed to a near stop. I disabled it and it perked right back up. I tried Beta testing this a few months ago and had the same problems

Inappropriate?Thanks for posting.
Are you on Windows 2000 SP4 RollUp 1? Also do you have any other security programs that run active monitoring? If so, disable the active monitoring on these other programs and see if that clears things up.

Inappropriate?I have performance problems on W2K too. I also feel there are locks on all active windows and activities that are not released until there is an interupt by starting task manager or calculator or similar new activity. I suspect the problem is also related to use of Outlook on the same system. When Vipre is totally uninstalled with clean program, there are no problems. This is latest maintenance for W2K. Many versions of McAfee were used previously and were removed. Also Sunbely firewall is replacing McAfee firewall. All I have is a performance nightmare now - system is basically not usable. Makes me wonder if W2K is fully tested and supported. I do have rootkit active protenction on - I will turn that off as another test.

Inappropriate?Carlo,
Can you please send us your System Information so we can look into this for you.
Please go to Start/Run and type in msinfo32, and click Ok. Now go to the File Menu and choose Save. Save this export to your desktop and call it system information. Once it is done, please attach this file to an email and send it to support@sunbeltsoftware.com.

Inappropriate? Was this issue every resolved? I recent purchase Vipre, and have a few Win2K machines that are completely unusable while Vipre is active (and turning it off takes a bit of work since the systems are so unresponsive). My XP machines run completely fine... one thing I did notice though, is the XP machines update their definitions lightening quick, while the Win2K ones take forever. Not sure if this is the cause of the problem or a consiquence of it. Anyways, any update info would be appreciated.

Inappropriate? We also have one Windows 2000 server machine that's been stable for years that has become unreliable and horribly slow since switching from Symantec cortporate V10 to Vipre. I'm pretty that Vipre is the problem, because besides the problem starting to show up when Vipre was installed, If I disable the Vipre service the machine is responsive as it used to be. With Vipre active it runs slower than normal and at the oddest times intermittently comes almost to a complete halt. When it does this it quits responding to network requests as well.

Inappropriate?Dan,
The Symantec Antivirus is know to not uninstall properly and leave traces on the system. These traces can cause conflicts with VIPRE's Active Protection. You may want to contact Symantec to see if they have a removal tool or manual removal instructions to remove the traces that are left on the system.
I haven't heard of any issues like this specific to Windows 2000.
