Inappropriate?Thank you for posting.
What version of the firewall are you running? (Right click on the tray icon and go to About, the first number listed)
Is this a new installation of the firewall or did this this just start happening recently?
Regards,
Jason Layman -
Inappropriate? It is a new installation of 4.5.916.0 version of Sunbelt Personal Firewall.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? Are you getting any block warning popups from the firewall?
We can make a rule for Messenger if it's Network Security that is blocking it.
Open SPF. You can do that by double-clicking the purple shield icon, which is in the bottom-right of your screen, near the system clock.
Then, click the Network Security tab, found on the left. Now on the right you'll see a list of applications. Find the one called "Any other application."
Click each of the 4 columns until the columns read ASK ASK ASK ASK. Then click the Apply Button.
Now, try running that application. Notice SPF will pop up with a dialog box that asks you to click "PERMIT" or "DENY" to an application. Be sure to CHECK the checkbox above these choices to create a rule for this application, and then click the "PERMIT" button. Do this for each time you receive the message. Use the application as normal, and then exit the application.
SPF has now made a rule for this program. Go back into SPF where we were and change "Any Other Application" back so they read in this order: DENY PERMIT DENY PERMIT by clicking each of the 4 columns until they are changed to those values, then click Apply.
SPF is now back in Simple mode. Go ahead and try out Messenger again.

Inappropriate?Messenger works if you disable the firewall?

Inappropriate?Yes Messenger works with firewall down.
-
Inappropriate? We need to narrow is down to what particular section of the firewall is blocking Messenger, so we can edit that section and stop this from happening. Contact support with the above ticket number and they will be able to further assist you.

Inappropriate?same problem here, tried messing around with settings, nothing worked except for exiting SPF application completely
oh, and it also stops my AVG AV from updating -
Inappropriate?Go into the firewall configuration. Under the Network Security tab, uncheck the box at the top that says "Enable Network Security Module." Also, under the Intrusions tab, disable HIPS and NIPS.
Now test out Messenger and AVG.
Let me know the result.

Inappropriate? This is caused by bad registry settings! Run this registry cleaner to fix the problem.
