Misleading links in bulletin email
The hyperlinks in the SVBC Weekly Bulletin appear to be one thing (ex. http://bikesiliconvalley.org/content/532), but when you click on them they are actually something else (ex. http://ent.groundspring.org/EmailNow/...). This is misleading and it is a technique used by phishing web mails. My email client warns "The URL you are about to visit may be deceptive". If you are going to post links to groundspring, don't make them look like anything else.

Inappropriate? While that may be a technique used by phishing scams, it is not actually the spirit in which we use them. Groundspring is the service provider for our mailing list, and by replacing the links in their e-mail like that, they end up redirecting to the actual page and logging that it was clicked through. This is actual a technique for measuring what the readers on the bulletin are interested in.
I agree that it looks weird, and I am glad that your client catches that it is not the same URL. I am personally very wary of these types of metric techniques. That is why since the beginning I have always tried to make the bulk of the links in the content of the bulletin links that are both track-able through Groundspring, but also leave the ability to copy and paste in the URI directly in your web browser.
Except for the table of contents, of course, I almost always have all the links show up that way. No one has mentioned this before, and it does provide us with valuable metrics that assist us in providing information to our members. So, what I can tell you is that it is quite intentional, we have made a note of this, I regret that our actions are not completely obvious, and we will discuss this in our next staff meeting. ^_^
I’m happy
