Jetta (2002) major transmission issues - anyone else? in Volkswagen. Last reply on March 08, 2008 22:49.

I purchased a 2002 VW Jetta Wagon, 1.8L turbo model, with automatic / tiptronic transmission.

This month, at 75,500 miles, the transmission began to jolt on shifting between gears. The dealer and several trusted mechanics have quoted me between $3,000 and $5,000 for the necessary replacement or rebuild.

It was just out of of its original warranty (on miles, at 52K) when I purchased it, and I got an additional 2-year / 24,000-mile VW certified warranty when I bought it. When the problem occurred, I was out of the warranty by 3 months on time (though within the mileage range of 50,000 original + 24,000 certified miles, for what that's worth).

I went through a complaint process with VWOA, who dismissed my claim and declined to assist me on the cost of repair.

Is there anyone else who finds it unsatisfactory for a well-maintained modern car to have its transmission fail in 75K miles?

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, please write in, as it will help all of us if others come forward with this issue.

saturn vue transmission in Saturn. Last reply on March 08, 2008 15:59.

I bought a 2003 Saturn VUE in December of 2005 from Saturn of Troy in Michigan. Not even six months after I bought the vehicle the head gasket blew and we had to replace it. A year and a half later, the transmission went out. I found out it will cost me $ 6000 to repair it and I owe $7700 on the vehicle. We also found out there are no cheaper options as we looked around only to find others in the same situation. Since the Transmission and repair costs are so high, the junk yard charges a higher price on used ones which in our minds isn't the best way to go about fixing the car. I have driven GM/American cars almost my whole adult life. Since I can't afford to repair the car at a decent cost, I now have to go upside down on another vehicle. My wife along with this situation is forcing over to toyota.

Soon to be former Saturn Owner,

03 VW jetta 1.8t manual acceleration issues and power loss in Volkswagen. Last reply on February 11, 2008 20:22.

Just recently my 1.8t manual trans has had a severe loss of acceleration and power. It happened over the course of a week (not much at first) At first I thought it was simply due to the cold. It used to accelerate smoothly with the turbo kicking in as it should, but now if I push the gas down past a modest point the RPM jumps drastically but the car does not accelerate. Any ideas/thoughts what the issue might be?

My Miata's 'check engine' light went on. Do I need to worry? in Mazda. Last reply on February 11, 2008 19:16.

I have had this happen before twice: once, it was the last tank of gas had a little water in it, and the light went off on its own. The other time, I had an O2 sensor burn out. Neither is an emergency. Are there any things that WOULD be an emergency, or can I let this wait until a regular service inspection?

    Clutch failure in Audi.

My 2004 A4 Cabriolet has required a new clutch and flywheel after being owned from new and covering only 39000 miles.
Neither the dealership nor Audi accept that they have any responsibility for this defect. I disagree as i have been driving for over 40 years and the last time a clutch failed on my car was in 1967 in a 1958 Morris 1000
