Does WHSmith need to re-think how it positions itself online? in W H Smith. Last reply on June 24, 2008 00:36.
In pre-internet times it was extremely clear what WHSmith stood for. It was a local shop and first port-of-call when you needed books, films, music, stationery, magazines, cards, etc.
Amazon emerged and defined the online shopping experience offering cheaper prices and a more convenient way of buying the same products.
WHSmith do have an online presence, though this falls short of the offerings of Amazon and other shopping sites, both in price and shopping experience. WHSmith have moved into other markets in order to compensate, though haven't taken any bold moves in any certain direction.
What does WHSmith mean to you today online and off? How should WHSmith be positioning itself online? -

How can I find books to buy on your site by topic. in O'Reilly Media. Last reply on June 14, 2008 00:58.
How can I find books by technical topic? I find the new layout of your web page confusing. I liked it when I could simply go and click on programming languages -> PHP and find PHP books, etc. How can I get back to that system? I can't find anything just by looking at the most popular keywords you have now. -

Better body typeface? in Rosenfeld Media. Last reply on June 11, 2008 19:47.
This could just be my opinion, but i'm finding the typeface chosen for both books a little hard on the eyes. It's hard to describe what's bothering me about it. The best thing I can come up with is that it feels a bit "thin". It may just be the way the type looks when printed on the particular paper, but I might suggest looking at a couple other typefaces for future books.
Does anyone else have an opinion on this matter? Am I just crazy?
Great work on the quality content so far. I look forward to future publications! -

Sharing books in bkkeepr. Last reply on June 09, 2008 15:41.
It would be cool to have some way to indicate some way of lending/borrowing books. i.e. I can say /d bkkeepr lend @username ISBN# and also then check back in when I get it back. Maybe even a friendly "nudge, can i have my book back please?" :) -

Need sample/source code for "Start Your Engines - Developing Driving and Racing Games" in O'Reilly Media. Last reply on June 05, 2008 23:12.
I have recently purchased "Start Your Engines - Developing Driving and Racing Games", published by Paraglyph Press, and cannot find the source code. It is my understanding that O'Reilly now handles the titles by this publisher. Is there a URL that you could point me to, which would have the source code for this book? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. -

Longer recent package history in Midwest Pages to Prisoners Project. Last reply on May 24, 2008 01:10.
Quoting Jess from the NYC group:
It would be even more neat to have something come up every time we put in a person's ID, off to the side -- even when they've recieved books quite a
while back: not just that we've sent them a pkg and on what date, but what
titles. If you think there's space on the right hand side of the screen for
that info while you're entering another package. This will let us know
whether we've already sent somebody who's asking about Malcolm X (for
example) the autobiography, and so we should send him something different. At the moment we do some hopping back and forth putting the prisoner's number into the bowse tab to see what the person got earlier. It'll also make us more easily aware of the dictionary collectors. Not that that's
a widespread problem, but there are folks who do it, and you know how scarce dictionaries can be. it'll give us an opportunity to write them a postcard asking them what's up.
