    Incompatible with Opera in Plurk.

When opening 'edit profile' or 'edit account' pop-ups in Opera, half the screen is blank.
I upgraded to the latest version of Opera (9.5) today, but I still have the problem.
No problem in Firefox or Safari, but Opera is the most standards-compliant of the three.

Opera browser support in Docs, Wiki, Gmail and others in Google. Last reply on July 06, 2008 13:55.

From time to time I'm forced into switching for different browser instead of my favorite – Opera. Frequent message saying “You browser is currently not supported” is very annoying. This are most common on Wiki and Docs, but Gmail is Opera crippled as well.

And each time I see it, I, myself as a developer, understand reasons behind it. Yes it is FF that has all set of plug-ins and in fact became a developer tool rather than a browser. But this is still not a reason to provide less support to the best browser available. I'm not here to argue why I've stated Opera the best, yes I know that it has a lot of problems (I've mentioned that I'm a developer :)). But the painful aspect is that I can't notice the movement.

Guys, I really like products of your company, but it is so disappointing when you can't get all from products you like on the browser that you favor so much!

    Thanks, for you attention.

Six ideas that would make Gmail better in Google.

I know that there are hundreds of thousands of people who want to have this and this and this but maybe there's a chance you read this and discuss one or more of my suggestions one day.

    Number One
Account Merge: I've been one of the first Gmail customers and have been - most of the time - happy with Gmail. After finding out that (probably not that many) people's accounts have been hacked and Google didn't feel responsible, I thought about the identity problem. As I signed up there was no real obligation to fill out my profile. For the Google support it would be probably impossible to find out that I am the "owner" of the account, let's say demo@gmail.com, when someone hacked my account. I think that is the bad side of being just an "anonymous" user id.

As you opened Google Apps to the audience I immediately switched to Google Apps with my own domain. I have several domain names, by the way. I felt more secure - if someone hacks my account, I could switch MX records and could still use my mail address. That is the good thing, the bad thing is that I would want to merge my Gmail account demo@gmail.com with my demo@domain.com account. I know there is a possibility to set up aliases or even forward / fetch mails from one account to another.

Nice solution, but it's not a smart solution for me. I would prefer to have ONE account, let's say demo@gmail.com and then a SUB account demo@domain.com. When I write mails from demo@domain.com I don't want anyone to see my @gmail.com address. Also, when I chat with someone I want to choose which ID I will use. I don't want to use demo@domain.com everytime. A merge would also be great because of calendar integration, Docs intregation, etc. Too difficult with two accounts. And then I have a different Google Adsense account (demo@yahoo.com). Google customer support told me merge with another Google account. Because I have several domains and didn't want to use aliases (which are just mail aliases) I had to create more and more Google Apps accounts. All together I maybe have ten accounts. No, really, it's too much. You just HAVE to provide a possibility to merge accounts.

    Number Two
Colors: As I said, I like Gmail, but it's a pain in the a... to look at the colors. Please, please, provide a simple possibility to change the colors. No themes. I don't need more graphics. I switched from Yahoo and HoTMaiL to Gmail because Gmail was plain simple, but please provide a possibility to change the color from a (in my opinion) terrible looking green/blue to other colors. By the way, I prefer simple grey! Bright and darker grey.

    Number Three
Chat intregation: AIM support is already great, but not that many people use AIM anymore (unfortunately!), MSN and Yahoo are more interesting.

    Number Four
Provide an address book: I know you have a contact manager, but it's not an address book. I know it's so much IN to have social networking integration everywhere, in a year or two probably people even share their mailboxes on the internet lol, but there some users who don't need all that. It should be optional. An address book should be an address book. I want to put MY contacts in the address book, not the ones that Google thinks are important for me. An address book for ME is Yahoo's address book. That is a real address book. I can store all my informations about someone and another important thing: I can access the address book very easy without opening my mails. http://addressbook.xxxxx.com that's it.

    Number Six
Provide better Opera support: I cannot understand why you two companies can't work together to develop an Opera compatible version that looks like the one when you open Internet Explorer or Firefox. I've been a long time Opera user, had to switch to Firefox (which I just hate because it's even in the RC3 slower as Opera 5 years ago) just to be able to use Gmail. There are not hundreds of millions of Opera users, I understand that well, but even for the hundreds of thousands of people there should be a solution. Right now you force them to switch to IE or FF or to use different mail services.

    Thanks for your time.

Opera 9.5 & Wordpress not compatible? in Zemanta. Last reply on June 28, 2008 01:03.

Hello, on your web site you write that you would support the Opera web browser. Sounds good, but somehow I am not able to use Zementa using Opera and the Wordpress Plugin.

I'm using the latest Wordpress version and the latest Opera stable version (9.5). I have waited five minutes but the loading status "Retrieving suggestions..." is not changing. I can click hundred times on the "Update in XXX seconds" button - but no change.

Use selection on a page as comment in Mento. Last reply on June 26, 2008 16:22.

I'm used to use del.icio.us. There I built a button/bookmarklet which uses the currently selected text on a page as the "comment" text in the del.icio.us form.

Is it possible to prefill the comment field of the mento post form with the selected text?

Why is the classic wiki editing style used automatically in Opera? in PBwiki. Last reply on May 08, 2008 05:17.

Why is the classic wiki editing style used automatically in Opera? It works just as well as with other browsers. I set the User Agent Switcher plugin in Firefox to identify itself as Opera, and the page renders the classic editing style. I've tried it in Opera, and it automatically goes to the classic style unless I set it to identify itself as another browser. This was a hassle for me because I use both FF and OP.

Opera/OSX Settings page bug in Socialthing!. Last reply on April 17, 2008 04:37.

On Opera, the Settings page has a grey transparent area that covers the area below Lifestream, making all the links underneath unclickable. The box remains when I click on the Feedback link, but disappears when I reload the Feedback page.

The grey area has a small indentation at the top edge, running from the start of the vertical line left of 'Lifestream' to approximately the same distance from the right side of the screen as it is from the left.

This is my first time using socialthing, and so I haven't been able to use any of the services yet.

RescueTime seems to be unable to determine (sub-)domains viewed in Opera in RescueTime. Last reply on November 17, 2007 11:25.

While using Firefox I get every (sub-) domain viewed added to my list of apps, but it seems that Opera (http://www.opera.com) is only listed application-wide.

Could seperate subdomains and domains in Opera get listed as seperate applications too?

Images are not visible in Firefox or Opera in PBwiki. Last reply on February 19, 2008 10:49.

    Hi there,

I've been having trouble adding images to my pbwiki pages and aligning them to left or right.

It's often worked before - but at the moment, when I add images and align them left or right, they don't seem to show up when Firefox or Opera are used to browse that page (IE works fine). If I remove the "align" bit of the "img" tag, the images show up - but not in the layout I want, obviously.

It's not a very complicated page (homepage of the wiki, at foleshillfields.pbwiki.com) - and the source code looks sensible and fine.

    Please help!!!!!

Windows Data Collector Update Published - 0.9.9 in RescueTime.

We have released an update to the Windows Data Collector.

You can read about other changes released today at our blog: http://blog.rescuetime.com/2008/02/10...

    Bugs Fixed

    • Dramatically reduced physical memory footprint for RescueTime.exe. Physical memory should now be around 2 MB (vs 32 MB) during most operations. Physical memory will jump to 11 MB when uploading log files to the RescueTime server, but should drop
back down to the 2 MB range after the upload completes. Note: Virtual Memory numbers are not affected by this change, which will still report roughly 32 MB, due to the way .Net framework allocates memory.
    • Additional large file checks to prevent files larger than 1,000K from being sent to the RescueTime.com server.
    • Removed updater service. This has been causing a number of our users issues and I don't think we are seeing a whole lot of benefit from it. RescueTime will still check for updates upon startup and through the "Check for updates" menu option.

    New Features

    • URL support for Opera
    • URL support for Flock

Wanted: Windows users to perform Alpha testing in RescueTime. Last reply on February 10, 2008 20:11.

I have been working on a few significant modifications to the Windows Data Collector that I would like to get a handful of Windows users involved with.

If you are interested in helping out, read on.

    Windows Data Collector - 0.9.9

    Fixes:

    * Dramatically reduced physical memory footprint for RescueTime.exe. Physical memory should now be around 2 MB (vs 32 MB) during most operations. Physical memory will jump to 11 MB when uploading log files to the RescueTime server, but should drop back down to the 2 MB range after the upload completes. Note, Virtual Memory numbers are not affected by this change, which will still report roughly 32 MB, mostly due to the way .Net framework allocates memory.

    * Additional large file checks to prevent files larger than 1,000K from being sent to the RescueTime.com server.

    * Removed updater service. This has been causing a number of our users issues and I don't think we are seeing a whole lot of benefit from it. RescueTime will still check for updates upon startup and through the "Check for updates" menu option.

    New Features:

    * URL support for Opera

    * URL support for Flock

    Specific Testing I'm asking for:

    * Feedback on the update process. To remove the updater service, there are some scripted commands that run during the update. These commands should remove the RescueTimeStart process owned by the SYSTEM user (which can be seen in the Task Manager). If you still see a RescueTimeStart process running after completing the update let me know. Also, please report any errors or unexpected behavior during the update process.

    * Memory utilization and performance impacts after the install. The aggressive memory reclamation that I'm doing does take some processing. On the test systems that I've run the new data collector on I have not noticed any performance degradation and CPU utilization is typically < 1%.

    * Opera and Flock URL support feedback. To get current URL's from Opera, I had to deploy DDE libraries which is why you will see a couple of new files in your installation directory.

    How to get the update:

    * In the directory where RescueTime is installed (default c:\Program Files\RescueTime), there is a file named UpdateServer.ini. Change the contents of that ini file from "www.rescuetime.com/updates" to "dev.rescuetime.com/updates"
    * Select "Check for updates" from the RescueTime menu or restart RescueTime with the RescueTimeStart.exe and you should be informed that there are new updates available.

Respond to this forum post with any feedback you have.

    Thank you!

Pownce on the Wii in Pownce. Last reply on February 04, 2008 16:24.

I tried to use Pownce on my Wii and it does not work. I realize this is probably pretty far down the list of 'to do' but i thought I would report it anyway.

the site comes up just fine, and i could log in. When I went to send a message, the form works, both text and drop down list. however when i hit submit, the block that the message form lives in reduces to a few pixels high. no message is posted. the page can be reloaded and it will return to how it looks.

the wii uses an opera based browser.
