Inappropriate? We are looking into it, but there are no promises right now. We are very careful about overcomplicating the interface by adding features that not everyone will need. But we will be adding the ability to attach notes to your weight data so at the very least you can add your BF% there. Thanks for your feedback.
-
Inappropriate?I agree, this feature would be great.
I downloaded Weightbot last night and used it this morning and I have to say it's great. I've been doing this manually with spreadsheets for ages.
But I second love_weightbot's idea. I have a scale that measure both FAT% and Weights (KGs), and I track both.
I can see issues with over complicating the interface and treading cautiously, but I think it could be done fairly simply. Default FAT count too off, and if turned on, you could pretty much resuse everything as it is now, except instead of showing BMI, you tap on BMI to enter it, the same way you do weight.
Then you just add a second axis to the graph for fat. (which I know is easy to ask for than do, but ....)
Just one man's opinion, but I think many people who are serious about losing weight track both now days.
That aside, thanks for a great product. Really slick looking.
I’m happy and hope you'll consider this feature.

Inappropriate?I'm all for this, as I stated in my app review, weight loss is nice, but body fat is key

Inappropriate? There's no argument that body fat is important, but it borders on the vision of this application which is a casual weight tracking app for everyone. Most people don't have a scale that calculates body fat, never mind a measuring apparatus to do it accurately. So while we aren't ruling it out, it's just not high on the list right now.

yeah i understand the reasons, but something interesting i observed was bmi isnt common knowledge according to some of your apps reviews but your app inspired those to learn about it, perhaps including body fat would do the same, whatever you guys decide, i like the app but would consider buying a pro if it were offered with body fat tracking -
Surely a setting to turn it on off when it's defaulted to off doesn't distract too much from the purpose?
Plus surely you'd be opening up the likely users of your app to those who have that kind of scale, which I think you might find is greater than you thought. -
I like the idea of having it off by default. If it's turned on then I guess data entry would be a simple two step process, tap to enter weight > tap to save / move onto fat% entry > tap to save / finish.
You've created a superb product as it stands - it's just beautiful and feels just as good, if not better, than something straight out of Cupertino. Congratulations. -
I totally agree with Mark. displaying the BMI is good enough. most people don't even care about the body fat %. and how many people are able to measure it at home? -
I think if you look at the sales of scales that do body fat the answer is "quite a lot". BMI is a pretty ineffective measure and mostly useless. -
This should be high on the list, it would be a very simple feature to add... I am also an iPhone developer and was going to develop a similar app to yours, but I am glad that you've saved me the time : ) I wouldn't make any assumptions about who does/doesn't keep track of their body fat percentage, if you enable that feature, it may motivate some people to go buy a bfp scale (which run pretty cheap at target and the like). Like one person mentioned, just make it an advanced feature off by default. BMI is in no way accurate (your app says I'm overweight, but I have about 10% body fat!) -
I hope you reconsider the addition of Body Fat monitoring. BMI doesn't really mean much to me, but I have a scale that measures Body Fat, and that number is as important as my weight to me. Maybe you can offer a second version of WeightBot that offers Body Fat as a second input entry. -
There's a huge difference between being 90kg @ 10% fat and 90kg at 25% fat, though both will give you the same BMI :-)
Hope you'll bump the priority, and if it's off by default it shouldn't distract users who don't want to use it. -
Inappropriate?Yep totally agree. Seems like very simple. And the BMI field just kets replaced by a FAT% field, and the graph gets a second axis.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?I also agree that Body Fat % it is essential in any tracking program. You could have an option to use BMI or Body Fat % and not clutter up the interface too much. On my personal spreadsheet, I only graph lbs of fat (calculated from weight and BF%). You could offer the option to graph 1) Weight 2) Lbs of Fat OR 3) Lean Mass and still only have the single graph. The user can select which graph is important to their own personal goals.

Inappropriate?I would also love the ability to add more data. For example, body fat %, skeletal muscle %, Visceral fat level and resting motabolism.
I realise this is starting to fall way out of what the app is for as I do realise having a very slick easy to use interface is key to people using weightbot BUT if within the menu there was an advanced window where all these options are turned off by default it would only be those that delved deeper and turned them on because they want them that would realise there's more functionality.
This would enable the casual buy and play user to use the app as a basic weight tracking monitor and also allow the more serious people wanting to log more info and chart more things.
Anyway, I'm very happy with the app at the moment but would love to be able to use the slick interface with more data.
Cheers for an app well done whatever direction you go with it in the future. :)
I’m thinking this app is very slick

Inappropriate?i think the main problem is, that people think loosing weight (no matter if it is water, muscles or fat) is everything.
they don't know how their body work because they try to lose weight by eating nothing at all.
and when they realize that after a few months their scale will show more kilos than before, because of the yoyo effect, they will delete the app...
sorry for my bad english, i am from germany... -
Inappropriate?ok so you get to your ideal weight and BMI and realized that you still have fat around your love handles. You also realize that you can not lose more weight since your arms and face can get ugly. Then this app will be useless from then on. But what a person should do after this point is to keep the weight but decrease the fat% by lossing fat and gaining muscle at the same time.
If you do not want your app to lose fuction when target weight is reached, you need to add fat %.
please please please please:):):) -
Inappropriate?I just purchased Weightbot as it seemed to have the best interface; but I searched for months to find a program that would do weight and bodyfat percentage. For me this is extremely important as I am an avid weightlifter and former competitive powerlifter - I'm not interested in losing weight, but monitoring both weight and fat to maintain a fit physique. If all things are going correctly, I will actually gain weight and lose bodyfat. Thank you for your consideration of this additional feature and I for one would pay a little more for this functionality if needed.
-
Inappropriate?I know you don't want to complicate the application. How about leaving it as an option to enter the information. It would be nice to just enter my BF% from my scale. If you don't have a scale or access to BF% then it wouldn't really be a concern now would it?
-
Inappropriate?how about a separat app: fatbot?
with a little fatty robot... -
Inappropriate?Keep me i on ++++ BodyFat +++++
I am a professional Personal-Trainer and I would recommend this app to all my clients, IF it has a BodyFat monitoring feature!
Without BodyFat monitoring it is nearly useless, if you want to reach weight-goals or decrease weight, because loosing weight and loosing fat ar 2 totally different things.
PLEASE add Bodyfat to make WeightBot a complete application!!! *g*
Greetings,
Marco Mantai
btw: are there any plans to have an export in .csv or whatever to have the data on your PC to print them and to calculate with them...

Inappropriate?hey guys,
will there be an update with fat-tracking soon?
i am beginning to lose faith!

Inappropriate?Has there been any update on adding Fat and/or %Body Fat Tracking? I'm back to using my old Excel file for tracking since unfortunately as-is, Weightbot just doesn't meet my needs.
-
Inappropriate? It seems there is a missed opportunity here. I, as well as others, it would seem, am looking for other apps to do the percent BF. I would pay an upgrade or would actually buy another version, if need be, in order to continue to use your fine app, but in the absence of what I need I am looking everywhere else. I hope that we can all be happy.

Inappropriate?i am sick of waiting for logging BF to be integrated.
i am using "wiscale" now...
sorry, but you missed the chance!

Awesome suggestion, I'm switching to WiScale. It's not a very attractive app, but I'm sick of waiting for Weightbot to gain one useful feature. -
and you can view your stats on the wiscale website... -
Inappropriate?I had tried iLoseWeight, but was frustrated that I couldn't enter the BF in % and have it graph in lbs. This is what Wiscale does - thanks for the tip! I have switched as well.
Now why can't Weightbot do this? All we were asking for was the ability to input BF% on a daily basis and have the app calculate fat mass and graph over time.
I'd still love to come back to Weightbot if and when you ever decide to add BF%...

Inappropriate?Lot's of people have scales that record bodyfat and the goals is to get this down as part of loosing weight/working out...
I’m thankful for getting this in
-
Inappropriate?Second this idea, and think there are a couple of other ideas in this thread which are good (ability to add notes and ability to view data on a website (RSS please!)).
I’m anticipating good things
