Dropped taps
Online games are dropping taps an average of four or more times a game. This is really annoying and destroys your online ranking!

Inappropriate?*yawn*
thread 38934570435 bout that prob
OS 3.1 is said to increase performance (and reduce dropped taps). and i guess tapulous is working on that since nearly everyone who upgraded to OS3.0 (i guess you did too?) has/had this problem... if you losing too many points, i'd suggest to stop playing online (or downgrade)
do arrows work for you? -
Inappropriate?Have you guys noticed any pattern with dropped taps in online play? Like, do you see them more often on extreme tracks? or during parts of a song where there are a ton of taps on the screen?
Or -- is it just random, any difficulty, any time... -
I usually play Hard and Extreme levels and it happens on both. Sometimes its during a part of the song where there is very few taps and many times it is during multiple taps in a row such as the song Losing It. There also seems to be a problem with the arrows as well. I nearly dislocate my shoulder trying to get the arrows to register and still watch them float by as if I were holding my iphone still. -
one pattern i've been recenly ecountering is the green line in Bloodmeat(extreme) verses. usually the two closer green taps. I've double-checked if i'm tapping that right and im 100% sure i do.
On the other hand, I cant recall the above mentioned Loosing It problem -
Ed, I've been paying closer attention to when the dropped taps occur & have noticed that with the double (side-by-side) taps it seems to always be the middle lane that goes red. -
Inappropriate? It happens when there are two tappers to hit at the same time & maybe a little more often when one of those is a tap & hold or towards the end of a long sequence of similar double-taps. It can happen right from the start though. I swear it also happens more if you very precisely hit two at the exact same time. I haven't seen it occur with 3 tappers to hit at the same time, but that's not a very common scenario.
I've only seen it on Hard & Extreme songs, but that's mostly all I play online. I've been playing the easiest of those lately (playing it safe). If anything, I'd say it happens more often when there is very little else going on around the tappers in question. This is what makes it so darn frustrating, because it's so obvious you didn't mis-tap but it drops. I don't think song difficulty or tapper frequency has anything to do with it.
One exception may be when it drops lone tappers. That seems to happen more often when there is a lot of tapper activity that is sort of "off-beat." These are always a bit harder to call though.
It happens less often if you restart TTR for each game. I also rarely see it happen if the tappers are flowing smoothly. If a game is stuttering, which it will do sometimes even right after a restart, it seems to happen more frequently. I think the most it's happened to me is 3 times in a single song, spread fairly evenly thru the song too. -
Is what you're describing on OS 2.2.1? or OS 3.0? or both... -
I don't have a device with OS 2.2.1 installed any more so OS 3.0 only to be safe, on an iPhone 3GS. Since I installed OS 3.0 on my 2nd G iPod Touch, the bad arrow behavior made it mostly unplayable, so I don't even bother.
FWIW, I can't say the usual "fixes" like Airplane Mode w/WIFI on, Auto Brightness, Push & Fetch off, iStat memory free, etc. help at all with the situation on an iPhone 3GS. In fact, I don't bother with Airplane Mode much lately, but do leave Push & Fetch off just to be safe. Restarting TTR seems to be the only thing that really makes a difference almost every single time. Maybe I'll play online the next few days in Airplane Mode to see if that helps.
Also, since this problem started, I don't think I've been able to FC Funny The Way It Is online, but can FC it almost every single time offline. It has quite a few double taps. In fact, I played that online a few hours ago & had it drop doubles 3 times during one game! This might be a good song to queue up more often online for testing. -
So I played for a few days with the usual "fixes", including Airplane Mode, & it does help but restarting TTR helps FAR more. If I restart TTR every single game, I can play at least 75% of games online with no issues.
Disabling all those things just seems to make the display smoother more consistently. I've seen the display stutter horribly either way though.
The inconsistency of all this is REALLY bizarre. I also swear the first time a new song is played, it never stutters or drops, but it will a few plays later (even with restarting, etc.). Does Apple OS or the hardware make substantial use of cache? -
Inappropriate?I still own an Ipod 1st gen... and I get dropped notes on and offline. The only places where they drop are at double taps at random points in the tap track .(Most noticeable for me in 'Audience of One' un-themed.)
Also, I get several small lag spikes during game play in more tap aggressive areas since 3.0, but that is probably cause of my hardware. :/ -
Inappropriate?I'm using the phoenix theme instead of the default TTR2 theme right now, and I have seen greats improvements. Minor dropped arrows, and almost none dropped taps. Of course, to do this you need your device jailbroken. I have an iphone 2G, OS 3.0
