Friend Book and private fields of the me card
On the Mac OS X Address Book, if you go into Preferences and select vCard, there is an option to "Enable private me card". When enabled, you can edit your personal card and uncheck any line of information you don't want to share.
This could be useful if you don't want to share a birthday, or if you want to have your home address in your card, but not share it with business contacts. Once you've decided on what info you want private, you can export your vCard, and that private info will not be in the exported copy.
However, viewing the info on your iPhone is not any different. It's still your information, of course, it's just private if you export to send to another person. And Apple doesn't provide a way for you to give your vCard to another person using only the iPhone so until now it hasn't been an issue.
Now there's Friend Book and my question. Are the "private fields" of my vCard set in such a way on my iPhone that if I were to do the sharing feature of Friend Book the card the recipient gets would match an exported card from Mac OS X's Address Book? Or would the recipient get my "whole card" including the marked private fields?

Inappropriate?Due to problems with this feature, we disabled it entirely. Stay tuned for updates on future releases of the application.

I should have made clear I had already read the updates and knew the feature was currently disabled. My question was more in the "how would this have worked before the disablement" and/or "how do you expect this to work once the feature is restored." With luck, either it will "just work" in the same way as an Address Book export, or perhaps Tapulous can offer a similar "tell us what fields you don't want sent" feature. -
Unfortunately, the phone's addressbook frameworks don't even know which card is your Me Card -- Friend Book must ask you to pick it out before you can share it. So although I'm not *certain* I'd guess it doesn't know which fields are private, either. Private fields aren't a feature of Friend Book 1.0 (or the forthcoming 1.1 re-release) but it's something to consider for the future.
