Inappropriate?Hey Camille, thanks for the note. What type of device are you on? Can do reset your iPod and see if it's the same?
Also -- is it just in online that arrows aren't working? -
Hi, we verified it is the 3.0, becuase the arrows worked fine on 2.1.1 itouch and stopped working after going to 3.0 this morning... So it must be the 3.0, nothing else was changed. -
Inappropriate?Arrows are completley glitchy ever since the 3.0 upgrade and 2.6 update. The arrow lag is in ingame and online. Please tapulous fix this arrow glitch.
I’m frustrated

Thanks Billyman -- we're aware of this, just trying to sort out the real cause. Some people say it's perfect, some say its busted, some say side arrows, some say only middle arrows... some say everything.. some say arrows are fine, but taps are busted... -
it seems to depend on songs and specific arrows... for example: something we're becoming registers every shake and in the sound of settling the last middle-row arrow doesnt register... I'll try later if that's always the same, but thats how it was the last few times (about 5times (?)) i played these songs (offline, but seems to be quite the same online... difference is only that online game adds several dropped spheres)... and if it really is like that, I'll be able to play online again (guess i'm addicted) as long as i choose the songs according to that (lost quite some points the last days)...
idk if it's the same for every device, but probably it helps... -
Inappropriate? That's why i say take shakes out of Online play. Nothing but a big headache. Or atleast make a room without em. I have trouble getting the right shake to register....it breaks my streak almost everytime. Middle works pretty well. Left registers entirely to early sometimes but it has never dropped.

Inappropriate?A really good example to show how messed up the Arrows/Shakes are in TTR2.6.1 is 18 Days (Hard). It's impossible to hit the arrows correctly now where I used to be able to FC it pretty easily with mostly green arrows too. Now many of the arrows won't register or register 2 in a row with a single shake.
I see the same behavior regardless of device or OS version. The only thing in common is TTR2.6.1. -
18 days is registering every arrow for me... -
But can you hit them all green or light blue? I can get them all to register sometimes, but when there are a few in a row, a single shake left will also trigger the next arrow on the right to hit, although it's a near miss because it turns red. When that happens, one of the following arrows often won't register. If I try to use lighter, quicker shakes (which used to work), it won't register.
One thing for sure is that on all the devices I have, arrows consistently behave poorly on this song. The behavior is less consistent in other songs.
I wonder if Apple changed something in the accelerometer filtering? There could also be some code in TTR that is too dependent on some unspecified timing in Apple OS for accelerometer event handling. -
I just Deleted & re-downloaded 18 Days to see if that made any difference. Nope.
About in the middle of the song, there are groups of 3 arrows - left, right, then center. The problems don't start until after the first group of 3 for some reason.
When I shake left for the first arrow, the left target goes green immediately (properly) followed by the right target going red BEFORE the right arrow reaches the target. Since it appeared to register, I wasn't shaking right & would lose my streak. If I do shake right on time, I can continue without losing my streak, but the next few arrows don't respond correctly.
My guess is that the timing window for arrows is fairly large, causing some overlap on when a shake is considered valid. This, combined with the messed up display feedback, causes me to then shake early, later, harder, or whatever. I still think Apple changed accelerometer filtering too. Maybe TTR can make the "valid shake window" tighter now.
There's definitely a problem here - it's not just me! I just FC'd it again, but it wasn't pretty. -
Inappropriate?I noticed this as well today. it tends to happen to me mostly in the TTR2 landscape (not as much in the say Placebo landscape we had last week).
It also tends to happen more online, then offline...
If I may suggest, I think that the easiest fix would most likely be have a setting somewhere that turns off arrows in both online and offline play and then a note that says something like: "Turning arrows off will put you at a disadvantage of up to X points per arrow".. This would at least be a fix for now, because like others I would rather keep my streak then worry about maybe 200 points...
Thanks!
BPP
I’m Hopeful of a fix

Inappropriate?Addition to this.... I am now thinking differently.... i posted in the TTR 2.6 toic a bit ago with this and im sticking by it now:
The way I see it is on my iPod Touch, I got 4 missed taps on Sh'es a Genius on extreme last play and 1 dropped shake. But im not willing to claim it's 3.0 just to point fingers..... I personally think it's a mix of inaccuracy with 3.0 software (accounting for maybe 1?) and then inaccuracy of the player (counting for the other 3). Dropped shakes can easily be human error...
So I don't count that really against it....
If I was rating TTR2, I guess Id make it 9/10 not 10/10 if you asked me about taps but nothing else....
Thanks
I’m confident

Inappropriate?I'm using an iPhone 3G with the iPhone 3.0 firmware installed. I have the latest version of TTR 2.6 installed.
I am definitely having issues with the arrows. I previously was able to hit every single arrow without any trouble. Now, I very rarely get an arrow correctly (and the ones I do get are either too early or too late). The majority of the missed arrows for me are the middle arrows. The left arrow always seems to register late, and the right arrow registers early sometimes, and doesn't register at all other times.
I'm glad to see that other people are having this issue. I thought something was actually wrong with my iPhone, but it appears that it's some sort of a bug in either the 3.0 firmware or the 2.6 version of TTR.
My stepdaughter has a brand new iPod Touch (she just got it on Saturday) with the 3.0 firmware (I installed that last night), and she has not experienced any problems with the arrows, yet.
I will try resetting my iPhone and disabling push, but I can't really disable Wifi, since I get very spotty AT&T signal at my house. In order to play online, I have to have Wifi enabled.
I’m sad that my online rating is slipping

Inappropriate? So it turns out the application is responsible for accelerometer event filtering, not Apple! Apparently there is no high-level API provided by Apple for this. This gives the application a lot of flexibility in making use of the accelerometer, but also places a lot more responsibility on the application to filter accelerometer events.
That doesn't mean Apple doesn't apply some amount of filtering in software or didn't change something to cause the arrow problems. However, it probably does mean Tapulous needs to change it's filters & may even have to make them platform-specific for the iPhone 3GS.
I wonder if the accelerometer is physically located in a different place (center of mass) on each platform? I bet it is & I bet that is at least part of the reason the relative directional sensitivity is different on each platform. -
Inappropriate?i just upgarded my itouch to 3.0 this morning. I have to shake very hard to get half of the arrows work, some arrows don't work at all. I noticed my iphone 3Gs also has the same arrows problem. I need to downgrade my itouch back to 2.1 ASAP...
I’m very sad.
-
Yes everyone is having this problem in a minor to major way. -
I just downgraded my iPod Touch from Apple OS 3.0 to 2.2 & it DID NOT completely solve ANYof these problems! It is playable again, but not like it was before installing Apple OS 3.0. I'm still seeing dropped taps & arrows! This is REALLY bizarre!
Maybe it has something to do with the "baseband" portion of the firmware which apparently cannot be downgraded. Either that or the interaction between the OS & baseband. Worst case scenario I suppose is Apple OS 3.0 actually damaged the hardware (seem really unlikely).
This is some really really really weird stuff! Maybe I'll try downgrading even further to OS 2.0. -
Woot @ not upgrading mine in the first place :-P -
No doubt. What firmware version do you have right now? 1st or 2nd generation iPod Touch? What version of TTR2? -
Oh, one thing that is different is that the songs download MUCH faster & without interruption. I had to download them all again. The last time I tried this, I could only get a few songs at a time. This time it downloaded like it did a long time ago. This could have nothing to do with the firmware though. -
Not quite. 18 Days froze when I first tried to play it. Had to Delete & download again. Same with Rude Boy Come Test.
It's really late. I need to get some sleep & spend more time with this before I post too much. -
well 2.2.1, 1st gen ipod, and I've never had constant issues with arrows on TTR2 (now, sometimes they go wacky, but then I restart the game and it's almost always fine) -
I have 2g iTouch. I tried to downgrade 3.0 back to 2.1 yesterday, I got error message during loading process, completely restore it again and again. it I am stuck with 3.0... Today I am playing TT with my iphone 3Gs instead, they both suck, at least the graphic is smoother. Very sad. BTW, I have the same problem with 18 days online as well. -
Are you familiar with the firmware downgrade procedure? It's not really documented very well anywhere, but you have to be sure your device is in "DFU Mode," not "Recovery Mode." Then you can downgrade the firmware, assuming you have the proper firmware file (they are different for iPhone vs. iPod). -
Inappropriate?Have this Problem Too (but i think its course of updating my touch 2g to Firmware 3.0). All Tracks are more laggy, so when the arrows are near to much notes or Holdings (for example tap tap tap in extreme, or the end of gives you hell in extreme) the Chance to lag out is very Great..
I Never had and i don't have a Problem with 18 days (or swichback).. -
So you have no problems with ANY of the arrows in 18 Days? There are at least 2 that I absolutely cannot hit green (or even light blue) no matter what. They are almost always red because there are 2 in a row & shaking the first one causes the 2nd to turn red. This still happens even after downgrading the firmware on my iPod Touch 2G! -
still seems like a difference to me between having problems getting them to register and having problems getting them green. Nechunra's saying he doesn't have trouble getting them to register. Different issue than them being too close together -
I suppose it's a different issue by definition, but I guarantee they're related. It's just how the hardware & Apple OS works! Regardless of how you describe it, more careful filtering of accelerometer events in TTR should be able to eliminate the issues with arrows.
Now that I've downgraded my iPod Touch 2G to Apple OS 2.2 & still see the same issues with TTR2.6.2, I'm not convinced Apple OS 3.0 is entirely to blame. No doubt there were changes in Apple OS 3.0 that did have an effect on TTR, but I now suspect those changes may have only better exposed poorly written portions of the TTR software. I hope it's just a matter of the OS evolving faster than Tapulous can keep up. Maybe the OS 3.1 TTR 3.x combo will finally get it right! Impatient fingers crossed! :) -
Inappropriate?Update: Taps are now very easy to hit..... 1 out of every 35 or so is hard and misses but otherwise it is perfect for me...
iTouch 2nd gen, WiFi, 3.0 Software -
Wait, what? I'm not sure I understand. One out of every 35 taps causes you to miss? Other than that it's perfect? Other than that it's perfect? A problem every 35 taps isn't even in the neighborhood of perfect.
That's insane.
I thought mine was bad, but you've got me beat. It depends a lot on the song, but I think my iPhone 3G might have degraded to the point that it's averaging a dropped tap every 200 or 250 when playing online (far far fewer offline). If mine was dropping every 35, I'm sure I'd have crushed it under my heel by now.
I'm about to try deleting TTR and reinstalling to see if that manages to help at all. I hate to lose my data, but I've lost hundred of points online now, and with the dropped taps like they are on my device, I'm never going to get the points back. -
Don't do it. I lost all my data last week when i tried to add my account to my 3Gs iphone. I have to started all over from no stars back to 3 stars and then dropped back to 2 stars after my itouch upgrade yesterday. I also lost all 30000+ Tapulous Points. I think I am worse than you... :(
I also noticed that there was no 3 stars ranking playing online anymore...
How to made the shake easier? I have very shake a lot harder to get it register. -
Were you not able to get logged in with your same account, janus roys? Maybe I don't have a clear grasp of what all gets lost with a reinstall, though. My understanding is the Tapulous Points would remain, your placements on the global leaderboards would remain, and your online ranking would remain. What would get lost are all the songs you've downloaded and your personal high scores.
That said, there have been a number of people reporting some lost Tapulous points lately, which I believe happened with a recent glitch of the Tapulous servers. I'm pretty sure Tapulous was looking into that, but I don't know what progress was made.
The shakes are really something these days. One day I have to practically throw my phone across the room to get them to register, then another day (like today for example), I barely have to rock my phone a little to get the arrows to go. I can make no sense of it. -
I believe when i logged back in, the original account is gone. I know that because one of my favorite song, i got a globe ranking #4, when i played again yesterday, I rank #5 and #4. If it is the same account, it will overwrite. Now I can see 2 identical name appeared. I don't know... It might be my mistake to delete my account when I added additional device. Anyway, too sad to lost all point and now lost ranking as well. I hope it wont happen to you. -
Inappropriate?ack sorry meant every 35 SHAKES, which is low given that most songs have only like 10-15.... So thats saying 1 miss SHAKE out of every 2-3 songs. If it was 1/35 taps I would be p-oed lol.
-
Ah, that makes much more sense. I couldn't believe someone would use the word "perfect" in a sentence about a dropped tap every 35. P-oed wouldn't even begin to describe it. I'm p-oed, and mine isn't nearly that bad.
But shakes, yeah, that's a far different situation than taps. My shakes are extraordinarily good today, but the taps worse than usual. I'd far prefer it the opposite. -
thats so weird, for me Taps that I considder to be dropped when I actualyl think about them I realize that theres about a 60% chance that it was my fault and therfore I think of it that way... just me though <_>< -
I think it's vastly different on different devices. Some people are having nearly no problems while others are having big problems.
When I think there was any chance it was me, I don't consider it a dropped tap. I'm not afraid to admit my mistakes and not the kind of person who thinks she's better than she is.
Sometimes (on songs that are less frantic) I can see it happen on taps that end up near-misses: my fingers go down on the taps, lift back up from the taps, then the splash happens, and the target will go dark blue or orange. If the tap recorded just a teeny tiny bit later, it would record as a miss even though I squarely hit it. I have no doubt that this is happening on a lot of the missed taps.
Also, sometimes a target will go red even though there hasn't been a tap in that row for several beats. Unless that's a song with an invisible tap (which I understand there are some out there), I couldn't possibly have missed it. Unfortunately, I don't have a good enough memory to know if there's any consistency to this sort of "miss," so I'm not at all sure if these are due to those invisible taps or not.
Also sometimes, one row (generally the left) will stop registering altogether for one, two, eight seconds.
So, yes, while it is possible that I may occasionally assume I hit something I missed, I know for a fact that the game is missing taps (and sometimes arrows as well). And it's been getting worse and worse. Songs I used to FC every time now I can't do better than 8 or 12 missed notes, EVER? It really seems unlikely. My game offline has gotten better and better, so it's hard to imagine that my game online is now significantly worse.
So, anyway, I guess I'm just trying to say that those of us out here complaining of dropped taps, it's not because we're bad sports -- the game is really malfunctioning significantly on some devices. If it's not bad on yours, just count your blessings. :) -
I can relate to most everything jkatj just said -
Inappropriate? Also sometimes, one row (generally the left) will stop registering altogether for one, two, eight seconds.
yes this happens to me every now and then (unfourtanetly it always happens when im showing off to friends XD!!!!) but other then that I guess under those "rules" I get maybe 1 missed every 500-1000 taps, I dunno why but i just have very few... -
I say you should send a thank-you prayer up to the Tapulous gods. I was playing earlier and was having a dropped tap every 75-100 taps, which is beyond insane. Fortunately, it's rarely that bad. Like I said, I think in general when playing online it drops one tap every 200-250 on my device. Offline, on an extreme song, it only drops about one per song. -
I have also seen the "invisible" taps, usually in the center row. There is no way you can "miss" what isn't there! Yet...streak broken. -
TXcouger -- do you know what song that was on? We're trying to pin this down too... -
It's not only that its like double tap, like u have to double tap one single tap in the middle row i think i've seen it on Omen Extreme. -
Same here regarding "invisible taps" in the center row. I'm not 100% sure they aren't related to a miss or near-miss in one of the other lanes though. I definitely see this happen more often in Extreme type songs but I swear I've seen it in much easier songs - I just don't play those very often either. -
But really to be fair, I've seen it go the other way too. I've been in revenge mode...missed a tap, and the streak continued. Most recently on the hard version of Panic Switch. I played it alot yesterday and had it happen more than once (lucky me). -
I think I've seen this happen twice too, but I've never mentioned it because I wasn't sure. -
When you just start revenge mode, the next few seconds you cannot break your streak. -
Duh... :) It's not that for me, but I'm not sure enough about the freebie to claim I was positive it happened. I think it did, but I'm not positive. -
well not everybody knows that :P
I didn't for a long time, and was confused as to why it was happening -
I caught onto that right away, but one thing I didn't realize was that you still had to hit the tappers correctly during the "grace period" to get full points.
It's also funny how the tap count goes up with every tap during that time but your score stays the same. Seems like it should go down like usual, just not lose Revenge. -
hehe, yeah at one point I tested to see if you could get the device to say 101%... by say, tapping 3 extra times in that period in a normally 300-streak song hehe.
Didn't work though :P -
I just had the Phantom Tap in the Center Lane issue on Magnetic Baby online. It wasn't in the harder portions of the song either. I definitely didn't have a miss or even a near-miss in an adjacent lane. The center lane just turned red when I hit a tapper in the right lane, on time, losing my streak & another 11 points too. -
Inappropriate?Ed, I don't remember a song in particular. But will pay more attention and send in song names next time I see one of them drop. I mostly play the hard songs...so I know it was one of those.
-
Oh cool -- thanks :)
