Is TTR3 going to have the tap target notifier like TTR2.5?
For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, its the way the target turns green for a full hit, light blue, dark blue ect...
This is one of the best features in TTR2, and TTR3 will be a huge step back if it doesn't have this feature. Why is this feature so great?
In short, it allows people to get better at a song and improve their scores after working at it for a while. Without it, you can just play a song over and over again and get around the same score every time. The whole point of gaming is to try to get better and to improve your score. Without this feature, it really takes a lot of the competitive edge out of the game.
Does the notifier system really make that much of a difference? Just look how much the scores have improved since the 2.5 update. On Rum is For Drinking.. with the notification system, 5 people have gotten scores over a million points, very close to a perfect score. On 2.0, these scores would be impossible!
Other notification systems aren't nearly as effective. On themed tracks, the background turning light or whatever doesn't tell you which note on which track is early/late, and you have to look up which will cause you to miss even more. No other system could be more effective than what is already implemented!
You might argue that its only the top players that really care about it, but I'm sure a huge majority of people prefer it this way. Most everyone I've talked to hates the themed tracks for this reason. Some people do like them, but you should at least make it an option to turn off the theme and turn back on the tap notifications. Of course the only motivation for you guys is money as we've seen with the lack of retry button (to get more ad views), and I understand that, (as it should be for any business). I think making it an option to turn the themes/tap notification system off/on satisfies everyone, in turn earning you guys more money! The hardcore gamers are the ones who you are going to alienate without this, and these are the people who are spending the most money buying every game you come out with.
So everyone, let Tapulous know how important this feature is, and that they'd be making a huge mistake releasing it without the notification system. I for one don't want TTR3 to suck!

Inappropriate?I really hope so. My scores are a lot lower and I'm a lot less consistent on themes that don't tell me how accurately I'm hitting the notes. And I don't know if u have heard this but ttr3 will have a retry button.
-
Inappropriate?Of course...I agree! I'm not a fan of themed tracks either, and I'm kind of dissapointed that GaGa doesn't have tap notification either...My scores ARE way bigger ever since 2.5! I'd be so sad face if TTR 3 didn't have tap notifications.
-
Ya. Gaga is probly the best theme that doesn't tell u ur accuracy though, but it might be becuz I've played it the most, -
me too -
Inappropriate? The Tap Target Notifier is definitely the best feature of TTR2. It's also a shame they don't appear in themes.
-
no. That rotating 3d corridor you see in non-themed songs is the best feature -
no, the dropped tappers are the best feature, lol -
Inappropriate?I'm with Brad. The tap recognition feature did much justice since 2.5 and with it being removed I believe it'd really take away from the competitive drive to aim for the most accurate scores possible, because with the system, it was easy to determine your percentage of accurate taps vs inaccurate ones.
So from what It seems, the color system is most likely being removed, having something to do with themes? My honest opinion about themes: they are FAR from my taste. I'm no fan of them. (Excludin Premium :P) It's extremely hard to tell how accurate you are without lookin up at the score and riskin destroying your streak.
I'd really love for the tap notifier to remain for TTR3. No other system could replace what it has accomplished.

Inappropriate?I would die if they dnt have this in ttr3 it's one of the best features of the game!!!
-
Inappropriate?I really improved when I got to know about the feature... I emproved enough to be on the poker face top 100 as like Num 60 or something on extreme
-
Inappropriate? We're all acting like they r definitely taking it away. I don't think we've gotten an actual answer yet.
-
but we do have some inside info... -
Inappropriate?I agree with beacheagle. Good feature *thumbs-up*! Should be in TTR3 aswell.
I’m hoping it'll stay in TTR3
-
Inappropriate? It really helped me improve my timing a LOT back when it first came out. Getting rid of it seems ridiculous, it was definitely my favorite feature in 2.5.
-
Inappropriate?Definitely my favorite feature too. My scores are a lot higher in non-themed songs due to the tap targets. Without them, I tap too early - must be my cat-like reactions. :)
Seems like it would be easy enough to have tap targets on themed songs as well while also giving them another place for "artistic" stuff. The current default Star Wars theme is lame in my opinion & the "Great" for shakes is getting old too. -
Inappropriate?yes, the current tap notifiers are pretty much awesome!
you could totally implement this into all your themes. The tap notifiers could totally be a constant in all your themes, and if you don't, you aren't trying hard enough (or are focusing waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much on the wrong things)
I agree that AT LEAST a default theme with accuracy notifiers right where the taps are is ESSENTIAL.
I’m ok if it takes another month to do it... just DO IT!
-
Inappropriate? Some themes show your accuracy by the size of the "ripple" that comes out, but I think the color was the best way. Ripples are too similar to each other.
I’m hopeful.... but wary
-
The splashes don't expand quickly enough on faster songs & it's not obvious what full-size is. The color change provides more immediate & more useful feedback (theoretically, ignoring the current issues). -
Inappropriate?So I was thinking
If there would be any reason why the tap target notification system won't be in TTR3 it would be because of the amount of themed tracks. Some themed tracks might not have any targets on the bottom to change colors to, and on some themes it might be harder to make the targets change colors due to graphical reasons (like, the targets being somewhat distored due to being on a tilted surface on one theme, and being a perfect circle on another theme. There would be no way to make a universal tap target notification system and every theme would have to be handled individually).
A way to remedy this could be to create a "Tap Target Notification" option in the options menu that could be turned on or off. When it's on, translucent circles could be placed on the bottom of the screen and you could determine the accuracy with that. This way, you wouldn't have to spend as much time on the graphics end of things when making a theme.
Something like this, except maybe a little prettier :P
-
I suppose there are lots of ways they could do it. The targets could be translucent as you suggest, with no color for perfect hits, & some standard colors for non-perfect hits. They could be rings instead of full spheres, or whatever.
I don't see any problem keeping them unless they have found some technical reason like they are interfering with the real-time recognition of tap events or something like that. That just doesn't seem likely, especially on the faster devices. I bet most of the issues would disappear if Tapulous could bump up the priority of touch events & Apple reduced latencies to a bare minimum. -
not bad.
though I wouldn't mind circles around a square tapping area anyway :P
