Latest TTR2 Update: Non-Responsive to Touches, Crashing and Skipping!!
Ok, so I've had updates galore on my phone today/yesterday and thought I might finally be able to 100% a song online without the game crashing or jolting. But unfortunately no, It's finally pushed me to the point of complaining.
On a fully charged iPhone 3G 16GB, with an incredibly good router within swatting distance and pushing and popping and what have you turned off I still get bad gameplay.
Firstly the first three online games I tried to play just crashed the app (Yes I restarted after updating and after each subsequent crash), of course because of the new system this looses me 100 points, *sigh*, then when I do finally get playing a game (Losin' It) the stupid thing stops responding to touches, yes I was hitting the right place at the right time, It's one of my better songs, and then to add to my dismay rather than jolt as it used to I lost a good 5sec of the song, my streak and my temper and had to restrain myself from breaking a window and the iPhone.
Now I know that Apple are probably to blame limiting all sorts of things to developers and blah blah blah but could you please do something, tidy up the code, add a reduce sound quality option,I notice that the music never jumps and continues for a while even after the game crashes, (ooo I as type I see another post has been made reporting the same problems still, I would comment on that but look how much I've typed).
Anyway the game is awesome, however the fact that it skips and crashes and jumps is gonna cause many people many tumours and haemorrhages. I complain because I care.
Cheers,
R0ck1t.
(Also apparently I'm good at posting on here and have a high likelihood of my problem being noticed, yay?)

I have this problem, too!
Tell me when someone solves it.
The more people who report this problem, the more it gets noticed.

Inappropriate?Hey,
Thanks for letting us know, and not throwing your iPhone through the window. We don't want to cause any tumors and such...
We're working on the problem right now, are you able to send us a crash log? -- You can get them by doing this - http://gsfn.us/t/16ya
Thanks in advance! -
Sent the latest crash log, although it's the jolting and when it doesn't respond to taps that I find is the biggest problem. -
Inappropriate?Oh I can relate to that. You play a perfect game (you think) but NOOOOOOO! It won't let you.
I’m in a tizz
-
Inappropriate?Hey, just wanted to make sure you guys have the latest 2.1.1 update. It fixes an annoying crasher that was in 2.1.
-
Inappropriate?Ed, my troubles began with 2.1.1 and the worst is losing my streak on the shakes. This is driving me nuts among other things.
I’m sad
-
Oh no! Is that the main thing for you? It's odd because I don't think we updated the shake code... but maybe... -
Same here.
iTouch 2G
The game doesnt reply to the taps and crashes every ~10 games. -
The shakes are only one of my problems. I am also losing madly from everything it seems. HELP!!! -
yep the shakes and also taps are giving me problems, i think that i'm n getting dumber and is just a fail of the update 2.1.1 of TTR 2 :) -
This is so odd...
Some people are reporting improvements, while others are reporting deprovements... -
Who is reporting improvements? -
me for one :P -
Inappropriate? You know what? This makes me think of the TTD update, which was never corrected and I'm very, very angry about that because TTD is a great game and I really want that downgrade or an update.
-
ditto on that, but I hope they address TTR first!!!! -
ditto. The only players who would think the current version is a finished game are the one's not yet skilled enough to get 85% on a medium track. TTD always had its "sticky" parts (i.e. certain spheres that were less forgiving of anything less than dead-on accuracy), but now there are more of those and relatively easy parts in many of the hard tracks behave almost as if an invisible note is being missed. To be fair, some of the fails are due to TTD being less forgiving of slightly off-center taps (i.e. zdarlight would be much easier to fc, albeit crappy fc, if it were ported to TTR2, note for note), and many players have been spoiled by TTR2's generosity in that respect, however that is not the whole story. TTD certainly needs a fix. -
This reply was removed on 04/24/09.
see the change log -
you could just play 1-player mode :P
and maybe you should've tried resetting your whole ipod -
Stockbrot - this is no good. What type of device are you on? iPod 1g/2g or iPhone? -
What am I - chopped liver? -
Again got 6 crashes in 20 mins.
Lagg isn't as much as it was, but it crashes very often.
iTouch 2.2.1
Same like Deborah: playin onlind -
And.. sry for saying that like this, but it totally pissed me off at that moment -
Hey Stockbrot - Could you send us some of those crash logs? They'd really help us sort it out. -- You can get them like this - http://gsfn.us/t/16ya -
Inappropriate?I'm using a touch v2.2.1 with ttr2 v2.2.1 and I got a hard lock after completing an online game and waiting for the next to begin. The timer froze at 0:56. Pressing the home button did nothing. I had to force the iPod to shut down. I believe it's related to the issue of "losing" your internet connection which won't restart without quitting the app, which I reported earlier.
I’m not playing
-
Inappropriate?ED, despite a lovely discussion with some players that others have pissed on, I continue to have big problems after the LAST update: I LOSE MY STREAK AFTER LEFT AND RIGHT SHAKES AND SOME TAPS WHICH I KNOW WERE ACCURATE.
That and lots of lag I didn't have before are really ruining my game (the hubris of the greatest players notwithstanding). PLEASE, PLEASE see what could be causing this. Thank you!
I’m getting turned off to tapping (almost).
-
Hey Deborah,
I'm trying to see if there is any rhyme or reason for this. I'm playing track after track with what you said in mind. Have you noticed any patterns -- or is it just consistently left & right arrows and some taps? -
I for one am usually pretty surprised at when it loses a tap, and have not found a pattern... I'll pay attention to see if I see one.
(though from the sounds of it, mine's not doing it as often as Deborah's is) -
I think it might also be important whether you observe that mostly while playing online or in single player mode ... cause sometimes it feels to me as if the online play causes such problems ... -
Actually, it seems much worse in online play, but I rarely play single player. I'll check it out some more. -
Ok that's good to know! -
Yeah, because I supposed that Deborah plays mostly online and you Ed try to reconstruct it while playing in single player mode ... -
I agree with goethe: it is worse online -
Ok thanks. Trying online only. -
Inappropriate?I have a hypothesis as to one thing that may cause some spheres to just totally miss. I have not thoroughly looked at this, but I THINK that when your finger stays on the screen longer that it needs to be (aka where there isn't a specified hold), it's more likely to miss a tap.
So this could be holding a hold after it's ended, or holding your finger on a note that isn't a hold, or even I think possibly just if instead of tapping quickly, you just kinda press your finger onto the note.
Like... ok, I'm a piano player, so I'm gonna use some piano-esque ideas.
If I play, say, a sequence that goes left, middle, right, I think it works much better if I play staccato rather than legato. In other words, if I hit the taps quickly, it works better than if I hold one tap until the next one.
Just some thoughts...
Also, just a few more crash reports coming your way :) -
Just thought I'd give a little update. I'm decently sure what I said about staccato working better than legato is true. I was just doing Bloodmeat, and you know after the intro, that main section that taps with the guitar? Well if I tap quickly and then come off, I never have issues with it. But if I let my fingers linger, it often misses, even though I am confident I'm not actually hitting any different rhythm or extra notes.
So if that helps you pinpoint any bugs, awesome, I hope it can be fixed! -
OK, I'm in Russia, so we won't count yesterday when I played wasted on vodka. But other than that, I continue to lose my streak with left and right shakes and also for NO apparent reason. I've changed my grip, followed SpiralOcean's advice, tapped staccato as per Ceegers' recommendation and after a fair amount of single player mode, I can say that it's all about the same, with the exception that lag is much worse playing online. BazAzItGitz is a good player and he tells it just like I feel it. This is getting ridiculous and I'm seriously considering getting an iPod, which would be totlly stupid. When's the next update, guys? -
just to clarify for whomever, I'm not saying when I tap staccato that there are no lags... I'm just saying tapping legato is a very good way to create a lag/dropped sphere lol -
I've been thinking along the same lines - that some of these odd misses have something to do with the way the tap is made. I too notice it a little less frequently when I tap quickly without letting my thumb stay put for long (staccato as Ceegers refers to it).
Another thing I've noticed is that it tends to happen FAR more often on the center button than the outer ones. Since I only use 2 thumbs, taps in the center are actually more of a slide - my thumb slips just a little bit since it's at an angle when reaching for the center.
I don't know how the taps are handled in the Apple OS multi-touch API, but perhaps a setting could be tweaked just a little. -
Thanks for sending those! -
Inappropriate?Gotta say, it seems like the more I play the worse I get. It used to be the other way around. This weekend's contest nearly cost me my sanity and a Itouch replacement. Out of the blue I'm dropping hits even when there's a splash. Nothing like a streak killer when you're trying to win challenges and offer up some good competition. The more I played "Hey You" the worse it got. I'm man enough to admit when I screwed up but when you have no control over the outcome it's enough to just give up. HELP!
-
Inappropriate?I sent my crash reports all dated 4/27 and explained some issues in the email so please read.....Thanks
I’m frustrated and going crazy
-
Inappropriate?I've been having some skipping and stuttering as well. I think I found a solution for me. Hoping it helps you as well. I posted it here.
http://getsatisfaction.com/tapulous/t... -
Inappropriate?I agree with Ceeger's hypothesis was just gonna post about the same exact thing lol. Basically if theres a quick string of middle-left-middle and you hold the first note a bit long there then it will skip the next middle note. At least thats what I feel as well. Maybe I can post a video...
-
Inappropriate?Summary of the moment: I almost won a game against dx.
Why didn't I? Well maybe 80% of the way through the song, there's a section with a bunch of holds in a row while you hit other taps. And it didn't register one of my hits. And the why I see it, the miss fits three of the common issues.
1. Tap and hold
2. Due to it being a tap and hold, you kinda have to play legato (so if you gather, the legato thing kinda covers the whole tap and hold issue)
3. It was a green tap
So yeah... I hope all these threads have helped you pinpoint some of the issues to help fix them :) -
Just stay calm. We both suffer with our lame 1st Generation iPod Touches. Almost FC'ed A Fact of Life and some random hold miscount -_-. Missed 1 note lol. -
Inappropriate?Oh gosh, I've just been playing montero for the first time. That is like the worst case scenario for dropped spheres. And the scores on the leaderboard show it. The game is just currently not good enough for that song.
-
Yeah, it's completely unplayable too on my ipod 2G :/ It lags every 10 seconds, have droping spheres everywhere... -
No, it's not .. I thought the same because I almost always lost streak on those alternating groups ... but actually these follow nicely the music, and if you tap to the rhythm there's absolutely no dropping .. just don't tap too slow but certainly also not too fast. I personally love Montero and the other songs of same kind.
You are just currently not good enough for that song. ;P ..
Well, seriously, I would say you are good enough, but you have to practice the alternating parts ... they won't drop if you do it right ;) -
I know you may partly have been responding to kingsokar, but anyway...
See, the thing is, I've almost FCd it (down to only one miss), and will do so soon, but even though I can do it, I still think the game isn't really good enough for it. I know, the taps do follow the music, but your next statement is just wrong. I've been playing instruments enough to know that I'm hitting the rhythm, but just the way the game reacts, it doesn't register.
For anybody who is curious, there are basically two things I do to make it actually register:
1. Be ridiculously light on your fingers. This will enable you to get your fingers up in time before the next note, thus preventing the issue that has been discussed here and another thread.
2. Sacrifice accuracy to give your fingers time to distinctly hit the notes. This could involve either hitting notes as though they were double, or, in my case, hit the first note a little early and just tap the whole rhythm slightly slower (enough to get the separation needed).
My point was you shouldn't need to adjust: if you hit the right rhythm, that should be enough, and it currently isn't. -
Could you people stop using the whole "I'm a musician" thing already? If you think being a musician automatically means you know more or should do better at at the game, then you're saying that I (who does not play any instrument) would be a MUCH better musician than you if I picked up an instrument.
It's silly. -
Naw, you could be tone-deaf :P -
@Ceegers I addressed it to you just the same ... I really think the notes follow pretty well the notes .. at least good enough that it's fun playing it ... and I learned to play an instrument as well, not too bad .. so, if you can FC it, I can't see why you say that it has the green orbs problem a lot and the game isn't ready for it?? ... it is!
However, I just read your comment completely .. and yes, I tap very sensitive on that song .. what you call "being ridiculously light on your fingers". -
Well it's possible. Andy and Ernest are veteran musicians and they're already ballin' tappers. I think more importantly it has to do with rhythm, coordination, and dexterity... Of course, I have none of these.... -
Gosh I sooooo wish I had a video camera so I could show you what I mean...
DX: I do indeed think that if you have the rhythmic accuracy to do so well that you would do excellently with rhythm in music (which could be drums, but whatever rhythmic aspect is involved... I think this game is actually kinda similar to piano, so I bet you would do well in at least the technical aspect of piano). Some people are naturally better with rhythm than others, and you seem to be one of those people. Doesn't matter that you don't play anything.
And what Ed just said is true: rhythm, coordination, and dexterity are important for this game, which some people have naturally more than others, and if you're into music, you may have also learned them through that, as it seems Andy and Ernest likely have. So it's really quite logical to compare the two.
And just because you're into music doesn't mean you're better (I know plenty who would be terrible lol), and I never said that. What I meant was that I personally have done enough with rhythm in music to know that what I'm tapping is fine (and if I had a video camera, I'd show that visually).
Goethe, you seem to be arguing the point that I Agreed with :P Yes, the taps do follow the notes!
I can FC it, but I have to adjust the way I'm tapping a bunch, or else it won't register, and that's what I have a problem with. The game should be able to detect the rhythm no matter how you tap, as long as you have the right rhythm.
GAH, I need a webcam or something... -
@DX I agree with Ceegers you'd make a fine pianist. You have great piano hands and your finger technique is perfect for the piano. In addition, playing rapidly repeated notes on the piano is only done well by virtuosic pianists, and it is clear that if you decided to play the piano you would be up there with the best of them - at least technically. -
Another way to look at is that if a pianist such as Lang Lang had a professional incentive to play this game, he would own it outright. Such prodigies would get very bored playing this game. It's not really possible to compare an activity involving three little buttons on 3" screen to one with 9 octaves of pearly whites. There's no song in any tap game that comes even close to the rhythmic complexity of Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky, or Schoenberg. -
Of course, but that perspective is such a buzz kill ;) -
Yeah, I would like to keep up the vision that once I FC No Stars over Bethlehem, Freak-a-Zoid and Sololuna (ha, not even DX FCed all three .. but two more than I, hm ..), I could be the worlds most famous pianist ... -
Well piano uses 10 fingers (and sometimes a foot or two), but 3's a good start ;-) -
Inappropriate?I take back what I said about the green spheres. I only have tap recognition issues. Btw, I have 1G iPod Touch and Montero is easily FC'ed (I just miss a couple) those short alternating groups follow the music perfectly as Goathe said. At least imo only major problem is Tap Recognition if you miss a green sphere it just means you aren't good enough. I have high scores on a coupe of songs but that doesn't mean its an excuse that I can play anything perfectly :P
-
it is true I have an iPod Touch 1G and I'm in the top 10 of Tap Tap Tap :) for now ... -
Inappropriate?I guess one way to stifle all the complaining would be to give DX-Chain a 1st gen iPhone and see how he scores with it? Then at least we could put the hardware vs skills argument to rest.
Reminds me of cycling... if you were to give me the most tricked out speediest bike money could buy, and put Lance Armstrong on a crappy bike... he'd still kick my 4$$. :-)
However, if you gave an incredible bike to some other professional bike racer, and gave Lance a crappy bike... Lance may loose.
The point is, until a person is at a professional level, no amount of hardware improvements will matter. -
Inappropriate? You guys (at least spiral, but I suspect others too) don't seem to get it. My comment was never about anything being not doable on a 1st gen. It's about tapping techniques that should work that for whatever reason, the game doesn't always register. And it's not like you guys can say there aren't issues, because there's always the occasional unexplained dropped sphere (you can even see it happen to dx in his recent sololuna video). Montero just made it obvious to me that some tapping methods, even if correct, have a greater tendency to these issues.
-
well, I didn't deny the problem with the dropped spheres .. your statement about the game not being good enough for Montero just made me contradict you. -
Inappropriate?Uhh.... to tell you the truth Ceegers... I hadn't read any of your posts. I was responding to a post by DX. :-)
-
Ah... well you see, this is where commenting on the specific point you're talking about, instead of the thing in general, helps: clears up possible confusion as to who said what you're referring to :P
... and DX is hardly even in this thread, what post are you talking about? lol -
LOL "what post are you talking about" .. awesome ;P -
Inappropriate?I loose on double notes sometimes which is very annoying as well as random notes not working which kinda sucks when I'm on a whole song streak....
I’m not happy
-
Inappropriate?iPhone 3g on OS3.0 and I'm getting a whole slew of dropped spheres that didn't exist before. The visible "lag" is 99% gone from previous versions however, so I'm pretty surprised. Older versions used to visibly lag when it was about to drop a sphere. This version is smooth as anything except that it randomly just drops or doesn't recognize taps. Can't figure any surefire way to reproduce it, but I'm getting it on 1 player mode as well. If I come up with anything I'll come back.
I’m frustrated
-
heyhey my screen just freeze when playing..what should i do now... -

First of all stop spamming. Then hold home for a while and see if you can force quit. If not hold home and sleep/wake to hard shut down your device. -
thanks.. done.. URGHH it pissed me off 'cause of crashes and lags...it's annoying when the tap doesnt respond...
